This runs perfectly for me, except for no sound in Zelda: Link to the Past for some reason. But it's played the other three or four games I tried perfectly, without performance issues.

Also of note, if you end up going to 5.50 GEN-D3, you'll get a message popping up at startup every time you have a UMD in there that requires you to have a higher firmware to play it.

You can cancel out of it and go about your business fine, but it's about as annoying to get rid of as it is to startup the HEN each time.

What they did to the remake is why Square Enix is evil. They redrew everyone to look like toddlers and added terrible low budget anime dub work to most of the dialog. It honestly makes me miss the so bad it's good fight-only voice acting from the original. But the original was designed expecting four shoulder buttons, so just playing the PS1 version in the internal emulator doesn't really work well... :(

So I'm kind of lost. I'm on 5.50 Prometheus (I don't remember the revision) on a psp1000 (the one that doesn't even have the newer motherboard) and I was thinking of updating my psp.

However, I keep hearing tons of poo poo this way and that, and I'm kind of confused.

If I was to update my psp to a newer CFW, can I do so to one that's permanent (like M33 or Prometheus does) instead of I keep hearing of this "HEN" poo poo where you have to reset it on a cold boot?

Aphrodite

There's nothing newer than 5.50 in CFW.

Edit: Except some 6.38 one that's still very early, I guess.

Gen-D3 can't seem to play most new games on UMD anyway.

PRO-B4 has a permanent mode, if you install it over 6.20 instead of 6.35.

Just fire up the original in an epsxe or something. You can't turn off the insanely bad voice acting of every line of text in Second Evolution and it gets pretty unbearable. The psx version has hokey voices, but they're restricted to combat and fall back around to being pretty funny. It's not like the psp version adds anything worth caring about (a background character from SO3 can show up as a useless party member, and they rendered all early special attacks worthless by giving everyone a 3 hit combo for their regular attack)

You can use the analog slide (or the d-pad, if you map that to the slide) to emulate either or both triggers.

L2 is quick character swap, R2 is auto/manual. The skills are on the shoulders.

Nope. You have to be on one of the latest PRO CFWs.

Alright, I kind of thought that was the case. Here's a follow-up question then: a few nights ago I updated to 6.35 Pro B-4 HEN. Afterwards, whenever I tried to play Patapon 3 it told me that I need at least 6.37 which came on the UMD. I tried to use the version trick and but I couldn't get rid of the error message. I ended up going back to 5.50 Prometheus 4 because I couldn't even get it to play on 6.35 Pro B-4, let alone get online. Any suggestions?

Anyone want to try a new SNES emulator?
You gotta name your rom hoge.smc, so only one game at a time, and the developer only gets 2fps. So its really early in development. Still gotta be better than Euphoria.

And on a more serious note, he's also updating NP2, a PC-98 emulator.

Is the power light coming on right after you put the battery in without hitting the power switch? What program are you using to pandorize the stick? Some programs have trouble doing the special formatting to the memory stick needed on anything higher than XP, and others may or may not require you to hold a button while you're powering on. I've never had a problem with PSP Grader.

I'm a bit confused as to the Prometheus install; I'm running the 5.00 m33 firmware, and I put the Prometheus 4 folder in psp/game and ran the install, which said it installed.

Yet trying to run my patapon 3 umd still tells me I need to update my firmware.

That's because it doesn't spoof the version for your PSP firmware. You might want to try the version.txt trick to fool the PSP.

edit: http://endlessparadigm.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=26475 <- This has the version.txt for 6.38 (Note this may or may not work, depending on how Patapon detects firmware).

I got an old PSP 1000 (he got it the week it was released) from a friend, unfortunately it has 6.38 firmware installed. Can I just install the CFW over the current firmware or is there a way to downgrade to an earlier firmware? Do I have to buy the Pandora Battery and Memory stick to install the CFW? Sorry for being so dense about this.

Pro-B5 is out.
Mostly bug fixes, including for Patapon (3?) and DJ MAX 3. The umd4homebrew plugin has been integrated so Iso Tool should work again.

Also TN-E came out 4 days ago, but I didn't care.

Yeah, you'll need a Pandora battery; if you got a friend with CFW already, they can softmod your battery.

So I've been running 5.50 prom-4 for ages now and while it's a perfectly good CFW, I'm considering switching if there's a manager that exists that allows me to rearrange the Games under the XMB without having to copy them over in the specific order I want them listed. It's killing me and makes me feel OCD :spergin:

Is this possible on one of the other (newer) CFWs?

Somewhat. But it's not really customizable and even when it's sorted into the folders, it still doesn't list them alphabetically.

Its possible on any CFW. There's the Game Categories plugin which is very nice, there's some sorter program for Windows, and theres pprefs for a PSP-based solution.

You'll need tell the PSP to open up Flash 0 when you connect the USB - It's on the VHS menu. Setting called USB Destination.
Then go to \vsh\etc\version.txt, backup your version.txt you have there and replace the text with what I linked you in the last post.

Again, this may or may not work.

"GAMESORTER(B)" didn't do anything when I selected it. It also doesn't let me sort the entire plugins list, just by the enable/disable .txt files, so I can't even use it for that :(

Sorting the plugin list is easy. Just edit the txt files, also don't forget to keep things like CXMB at the top, they tend to fail if at the bottom of vsh.txt

And when using Sort Game Beta on Pprefs, you need to hold square and using the d-pad to drag the items. Its an odd key config, but its the only thing that works with Game Categories Light (the 6.20-35 version).

Nothing happens at all when I select Sort Game in pprefs.

game.txt, game150.txt, pops.txt, vsh.txt are the four list files I have in seplugins. I can't make it so all of the plugins in each separate file are organized in the big list the way I want to just because they're spread out like this :(
