Then find USB device, change that to Flash0, and then the next time you plug your PSP into your computer you'll be able to find the folder I spoke of. To make it so you can add files back to your memory stick like before, change the device back to Memory Stick (what it's on now). Edit: Excellent! Good luck.

So I'm helping a buddy set up his new PSP for homebrew, probably going to set him on 6.35 Pro-B since that's what I use. But is there any way for him to play a UMD game with an update for something past 6.35 on it? I'm not sure what kind of memory stick space he has so I don't know that he can just put a bunch of games on it. I know the new Dissidia game has a 6.37 update on it and he has that.

Try the version.txt trick. Also there's a 6.39 Pro-B out now as well.

^ ^ ^ Which works if you don't want to downgrade. Which you can totally do as well now. At this point I'm wondering if Sony's just learning things for the NGP*. I'm guessing it won't be nearly as hackable as the PSP has been. glod posted:So I'm helping a buddy set up his new PSP for homebrew, probably going to set him on 6.35 Pro-B since that's what I use. Ugh.. I'm so retarded with PSPs it's really sad. I have a pspGo and I'm trying to run the downgrader. I got through half the steps on the OP, I'm currently sitting on 6.39 according to my units firmware, I have the 6.20 eboot file in my update folder, I think where I'm doing something wrong is with the placement of files/folders with the downgrader... When I think I've done the right steps, I run the downgrader and I get an error: "opening ef0 etc etc" When first unzipping the downgrader, can someone please just tell me what to do with ALL the files I'm given? Where does the SRC files from the downgrader zip go specifically? VV Whoops that was a stupid typo, numbers making me more dumber. Throw the PSP folder from the downgrader in the root of your Go's memory. (So it should look like /PSP/GAME/6.3x Downgrader v3.5/EBOOT.PBP) Ignore the SRC files. SRC typically indicates that its a folder containing the source code, so its useless to you. Edit: If you have a memory stick for your Go, make sure its not that on that. All this has got to be on the internal memory according to the Downgrader's readme. vkeios fucked around with this message at 21:17 on Jun 3, 2011 |

I just bought a new PSP and an 8 GB card in a store today, and I am surprised by just how easy this was. The thing is a 9g PSP 3000 which came with 6.37. I followed the directions in the OP, upgrading to 6.39 and using PRO-B6. Everything seems to work without a hitch. I guess that with the version I got I can't downgrade. Is there any real downside to not being able to downgrade to 6.20, apart from needing to run the fast recovery on a hard reset? As for the pandora stuff, is that necessary for any PSPs at the moment? I don't see any firmware newer than 6.39, which seems to have the PRO-B6 thing. Filthy Monkey fucked around with this message at 00:23 on Jun 4, 2011 |

Also you're correct in that 6.39 is the newest. 6.39 was just a quick update due to that whole password debacle, so Sony hasn't had time to patch the security exploit first found in 6.38.

I'm currently running 5.00 M33-6 on a PSP2000, and I'd like to update to something that will let me use the store. It's been a long time (obviously) since I've updated my firmware. Since I'm already using a CFW, what should I do?

Since Wololo.net's homebrew competition is now over (list of submissions), I've decided to try out all the games. I'm still working my way through, but I've made notes of about half of them so far. Good Games G.D.P.: Arcade style shooter, looks really drat nice for a homebrew. Icy Tower Portable: Autoscrolling vertical platformer. Fun waste of a few minutes. Kobo Deluxe: Port of Kobo. Its a fun free scrolling shmup thing. LameCraft: A Minecraft creative mode clone. Is probably better coded than the real thing. Portal 2D: Pretty fun little thing (Note: I have never played that one flash game). Has a level creator that unfortunately doesn't allow you to save levels yet. PSPMinesweeper: The music is annoying, but the game itself is pretty well done. SerpantePX: Its Snake. Really nice graphic style too. Silveredge: A surprisingly enjoyable horizontal shmup. Not much right now, but its got potential. Though the music creator is imitating Zun a bit too much now. Sokoban: IYou probably played this before. Its a block pushing puzzle. Square Force: Neat fly a ship and shoot stuff thing. Enemies (and you) take forever to die though. I lost interest after 5 minutes of shooting the same thing. TankePX: Its basically Combat for the Atari 2600 (God I loved that game). Same graphics as SerpantePX. Its in Spanish by the way, so don't pick Salir unless you want to quit. Time Cube: Yeah its a puyo puyo clone themed after a famous web site. Controls are a bit twitchy and rotating doesn't quite feel right. lovely Games Evil Teddy: Protect chickens from suicide bombers. Also you're a bear. Feeling: Lumines clone, but with no music, also it crashed when I pressed a button (Granted its only a demo). Lightning: Dodge lightning while some bad music plays. This actually isn't a bad game, its just boring. Medieval Escape: Slowly move your rpgmaker sprites through a maze! Mind Reader: Randomly picks a symbol or something. Mindcraft: 2d minecraft clone. Its poo poo (just like minecraft Platform Portable: Billy's first flash game. Puzzle Square: Its sliding block puzzles, unfortunately I can't seem to figure out how to actually control the dumb rear end game. Spacecraft: Imagine if Asteroids was a shmup and unfun. Take the Ball: Its a lovely roulette game. Toy Wars: You get to race a toy plane around barren rooms. I got stuck in the bathroom ceiling. Games that I gave up on trying to play. Kingdom of War: It froze when loading. Mobile Skat: I used to know how this game was played. Nazi Zombie Portable: Requires the Quake data files and I'm not sure where my cd is. PSPScrabble: I dunno how to control, and gently caress playing scrabble by myself. PSPBriscola: Its a card game I've never seen before. PSP FTW! 2D: Its an online game. Island Wars PSP: site is broke, couldn't download it. chaosbreather posted:Since I'm already using a CFW, what should I do? edit: VV 6.20 Pro on OFW 6.20. vkeios fucked around with this message at 04:31 on Jun 4, 2011 |

I've been out of the loop for a bit, but I'm currently on 5.00 M33-6 Prometheus, and I just saw the new Pro B6 firmware. Is there a benefit for me to upgrade to that? I've tried looking around but haven't been able to find much info and the OP doesn't really get into that. Thanks!

Can we just have "If you finally give up M33/GEN (kicking and screaming, probably) and move up to a 6.xx custom firmware, new games will work without patching and you'll be able to use the Store properly again." added to the OP? Okay, so a handful of homebrew things won't work, but they've either been superseded or were never really worth much.

Something of a PSA: Apparently, there's a PRO-B7 firmware, promising to produce a full custom firmware (among other things), floating around now. As you can guess, this is a side-effect of Coldbird GPLing the PRO-B6 firmware after the end of the Wololo.net homebrew competition. I wouldn't touch this. Whatever the motivation for producing this, anything that mentions MS speedup, DarkAlex enhancements, and bricking unPandorable PSPs is something that shouldn't get the chance to earn any credibility. (Yeah, I know PRO involved the last one a while ago, but they at least TESTED that. It's been less than a week since PRO-B6 went open source.)
|
|
|
|
Well, coldbird is doing a nightly build of PRO. http://code.google.com/p/procfw/wiki/NightlyBuilds So if you are like me and want the cutting edge, use that. Of course, it's probably better just to wait until an official version comes out. I want popsloader compatibility. Dragon Warrior 7 is a no go on PRO.

I have looked everywhere with no results and maybe someone else will have more luck, I'm looking for a plugin that will either disable hold mode or the power switch entirely. I have a loose power switch that sends me into hold mode whenever it feels like loving me over, and I can't get in there to fix it as trying to unscrew the screws is futile since they are in there ridiculously tight.

I'm trying to get the 2 free psn games onto my psp, and it seems to involve me upgrading my firmware. I downloaded the games onto my ps3 but it didn't let me copy them onto a usb stick. 'copy' only seems to allow a psp copy. I don't want to plug my psp into my ps3 because it will probably make me upgrade. I tried sony media go and plugged my psp in there, but it started downloading a psp firmware update so I unplugged it. I'm not clear on how to get games from the psn store onto media go anyway though.

It will not force the update, and you can still copy it in from the Games window even though you can't mess with the PSP in its own. Also 6.39 PRO is identical to 6.35 PRO except for the exploit it uses, and CAN download from the PSN raw, and version.txt if you still don't want to switch.

Do you guys think now would be a good time to retire my Go as a homebrew machine? Every PSP game I own is digital and I don't really plan on making any more purchases until Vita comes out. The OP says 6.20 plays everything out so far so am I right in thinking I should get that rather than 6.39 just to make sure all my purchases continue to work? The guide in the OP seems easy enough, I think it's about time I tried this.

So far the best thing I've discovered about my PSP is that the video casts of the Rachel Maddow show work on it natively as long as I rename the file from .m4v to .mp4. For some reason it takes forever to actually read the video folder, compared to the game folder, though. It has to load for about twenty seconds to display the video for me to play it, while selecting Games is almost instant.
