Throw on some official firmware, run PRO, permanent patch if you're able. It's easy as pie and it's all in the OP.

I went to download some old stuff through MediaGo and it won't transfer the stuff over to my PSP unless I perform a system update on it. I've been using PRO 6.35-B for awhile now so I don't know if installing the update will lock me out of any newer CFWs.

I think the latest firmware has been hacked for PRO, so in theory you should be able to upgrade to 6.60, transfer your stuff, then run the PRO CFW.

Edit: Apparently there are other solutions as faking your version.txt, but I can't seem to get a consistent answer.

Yeah, you do the version.txt trick, but call the file usbversion.txt. Its for faking the version when connected to a ps3 or MediaGo.

Or you just could update to 6.60 like RadicalR said.

Is it possible to patch PS1 games off the PSN? I was thinking of buying FFT and applying the War of the Lions patch to get around the slowdown on the actual WotL.

There probably is some way to extract the iso, patch it, and repackage it, but if the patch is designed to be used with a retail disc the psn version may not be the same.

On a similar note, if you own the disc you could rip, patch, and package it yourself to work with your psp.

And what is this patch? The slowdown on the PSP remake killed it for me and I'm very curious.

There's supposed to be a patch that changes the main script of vanilla FFT into the War of the Lions rewrite. I do have a disk, but it's scratched up and probably wouldn't emulate right even if I figured out how to burn it.

I think there are a bunch of people who can create trailing images. I know some who could do this as if they were just going out for a stroll.
You'd think it'd be easier to just fix the slowdown in the PSP version.

FuzzyPickles

Poking around, it looks like the PSP version has a lot of the same files that are on the original PSX disc, so my guess is that if they already know how to hack the PSX version it's not nearly as much work to copy/paste dialog between the two games. Apparently the PSP version had a 15 fps cap hard coded into certain kinds of animations, at some point during development. God knows why.

I havent touched my psp in over a year
Its still on 5.00 M33-6 and Im glad to see the scene has progressed.

Are CFWs all unnecessary now and does 6.60 Pro-B completely replace the functionality of my CFW. By which I mean does it autoload on start up and and run stuff without having to manual edit the files first?

Can I use 6.60 Pro-B on a psp go? they are looking pretty cheap and I have an extra 16gb memory stick

Thanks for putting together such a good OP

Yep Pro-B does about everything, it'll will even do the autoloading on boot as long as you don't got a newer 3000 (It'll still run on those though). And someone correct me if I'm wrong, but PSP Gos use a different flash memory than the other PSPs (M2 instead of Pro Duo?).

There is no file editing necessary on any model. The standard Pro-B install is removed if you shutdown a PSP, but can be re-enabled with the included Fast Recovery app. Some models are compatible with a permanent install patch. The others require that you run the Fast Recovery app from the game folder on the PSP after a reboot. Pro-B is not removed if you just put your PSP into sleep mode rather that shutting it down completely.

Yes, Pro-B works on the PSP Go. However, it's one of the models that does not work with the permanent patch, unless you downgrade to 6.20 and use that version of Pro-B. The option is available, but running the Fast Recovery app is only a 7-second inconvenience. And like vkeios said, the PSP Go uses a Memory Stick Micro (M2) rather than a Pro Duo. A 16gb M2 card can be found on Amazon for $20-30.

I have a bit of an issue. I've got two PSN accounts with some psp games attached to each one. On OFW, trying to start up a game attached to the non-activated account gives a "cannot be accessed from this account" message. It's relatively simple to just swap accounts to play them. But on CFW, trying to start up a game from the other account gives error code messages or crashes my psp. Switching accounts just makes this happen with all the games, at which point I need to delete and re-download them all.

Is there some way around this? Better yet, is there a way to play all my games on one psp without the account-switching? I'm on 6.60 Pro-b10, by the way.

This is probably the best place to ask this, since I don't know what I am dealing with here. I was considering buying a psp for around 100 during the sales the other day, but my buddy whom I was shopping with offered to just give me one that he had and never uses. It is a fat, model 1000 version, and it doesn't turn on. If plugged in via the charger that connects via USB and the AC port, an orange light will come on. If I try to turn it on, the screen will have a quick subtle flash and the power light will turn green for a second, then go back to orange. If I remove the battery and turn it on while plugged in, it will flash, turn green for a couple of seconds, then turn off.

I don't know what custom firmwares or psp fuckery was attempted before hand. Is this PSP bricked? Is the battery bad? Is the charger bad?

It should work fine even without the battery, as long as the power plug is not loose and clean. The orange light staying on indicates the battery is loading, which means the battery, plug and power block are likely fine.

So yeah, sounds like it's bricked.

I think to fix that you'll need a pandora battery.

Use a homebrew tool called PSN License Manager. Try signing into an account, pick activate this system from Account Management. Then start up License Manager, save your settings with it, and then repeat the process for any other accounts you have.

I have seen some tutorials floating around regarding how to hard mod a normal battery, but I don't think I am adventurous enough to try it since it can be dangerous. Is there any way to soft mod the battery with my psp in the state it is currently in?

Soft modding the battery needs a live PSP I believe.

I'm trying to download Corpse Party through the Playstation Store, and it's giving me an error.

I Googled around and came to the conclusion that I could probably get around this error by downloading it with Media Go and transferring it to my PSP. Unfortunately, as soon as I plugged my PSP into my PC, Media Go started to download a firmware update.

I don't suppose I can transfer Corpse Party to my PSP without transferring and installing the update as well, can I?

You can probably do the version.txt trick and fool Media Go. Google version.txt 6.60 and put the results in a text file called version.txt in the seplugins folder. You'll need to enable the "Use version.txt" in the Configuration (Press Select on the XMB and choose the 4th option (if I recall correctly)).

Even with this, it may still not work, though - let me know how it goes.

Do the version.txt trick except call it usbversion.txt (usbversion is for MediaGo and PS3 fooling).

And I can confirm that Corpse Party works on Pro-B, I've been enjoying that game today.

I can't get version.txt 6.60 to work. If I follow the link in the OP and copy the text from the 6.39 version.txt it works fine, and both my PSP and Media Go say it's version 6.39 (Well, my PSP says my fake version is 6.39) but when I copy the text from this link, Media Go says I'm on version 6.20, and my PSP just says 6.20 PRO-B6 without listing a fake version. Naming it usbversion.txt doesn't work, either.

I had that problem too when I was trying to install Corpse Party. Well, actually anything from the PSN onto my PSP. I found this bizarre thing on Google where if you change the email address you log in with and try to install, it'll work. So I did that, installed, changed back to the original email.

Unfortunately in my trouble shooting process I ended up accidentally upgrading to OFW 6.60. Oh well, I'm sure I'll get it back to CFW someday.

Sorry I should have tried that one before linking. version.txt is notoriously picky (Probably the wrong kind of new line character)

Now my PSP recognizes my fake version as 6.60, but if I plug into Media Go it immediately starts trying to update my firmware anyway. (with both version.txt and usbversion.txt set for 6.60) Thanks for the help, anyway.

Well, I gave Media Go a try with a 6.60 version.txt. Didn't try to force me to update or anything. So only things I can think of is make sure you're using the newest Pro-B; that you've enabled usbversion.txt in the recovery menu and have given the PSP a nice reboot before trying again.

Beyond that just upgrade to 6.60, you can keep your cfws, and more importantly, you'll be able to play a game that you purchased.

So now my PSP gives me an error when I try to download it, my PS3 gives me an error when I try to download it, and Media Go gives me an error when I try to transfer it to my PSP. It's starting to feel like I'm never going to play this game.
