CAT rear end now!!! posted:e3: I'll bite. Laibach have always been a novelty for me. "Life is Life" was fun to play in the record store, and we'd throw the Black Box video on in the evenings and watch as people gaped at the "Geburt Einer Nation" video. However, I never really got further than the occasional track to throw down to either confuse or irritate in a social setting. I'm fairly confident in the fact that I like music. It is definitely a unique cover in terms of Dylan and they obviously make it their own. However, the song doesn't do that much for me, and the animation is what kept me until the end. I guess Laibach have always been a band where the ideals and story behind the band were more interesting than their constant output of music. Maybe I'm just not Eastern Europe enough.

He's really good friends with the person who organises DV8 and picked them up as a favour. It's funny though because he's usually got his hands in the scene in places, best friends with the Music-Non Stop people too, for instance. Which is why I did a when he hadn't heard of Grendel. Made me for a while for sure.

They're not super great but they are very popular. IMO the best part of Harsh Generation, by a huge margin, is the remixes on the 2nd CD. My favourite song of theirs overall is the b-side on the Soilbleed EP, One Eight Zero.

To be quite honest, I also thought Opus Dei and Leben heisst Leben were some kind of jokes when I first heard them (and they are, in a very Laibachian way!). Those were also the first songs I ever heard from the band. It wasn't until I heard Tanz mit Laibach and the rest of WAT that I really got into them, and it still wasn't until extensive listening and reading that I really understood what was going on and really started digging the poo poo out of them. But yeah, Laibach is a very loving difficult band to "get" and I can definitely see where you're coming from. It's kind of unique, actually, I mean, how many bands do you know that new listeners really should read about before listening? Laibach is just so much more than a band that it's kind of a waste to just listen to them. Also if you ever happen to meet me in real life don't ever mention Laibach or I will talk about them for three hours straight, whether you like it or not. Man so much occurred in the scene back in the day it blows me away how little I know.. despite being a genre fan for over a decade. I'm always down for hearing new stories. I just recently heard that Raymond Watts of PIG used to work at a studio heading sessions for Einsturzend Neubauten and Throbbing Gristle. See? What the gently caress? I didn't know that. It's those random stories and facts that make you think how connected industrial or dare I just say progressive experimental music was back in the day. Especially in Europe, as alot of Weatern bands have been well documented but alot of the Europeans bands weren't.
