OldSenileGuy posted:I'm not really interested in Edge. I have a Share Everything plan with 4GB and 2 phones on it. How does the trade-in program at Verizon work? I know they say they'll give you a free iPhone6, but is that just in the form of a $199 statement credit? I'm coming from an iPhone 5 and my wife is coming from a 4S. I'm thinking I might sell mine independently because I can probably get more than $200 for it, but it's probably easier to just trade hers in. But the thing is, she doesn't really like the larger size of the iPhone6, and might end up with a 5S. Can she trade in her 4S for a 5S + $100 statement credit? I don't think so. I think the trade-in offer is only for the iPhone 6, but it wouldn't hurt to call and ask. You could probably sell that 4S for at least $100 still. Also, it seems like Verizon is giving you a gift card (not a statement credit) for the trade-in.

Yeah, it looks like you trade your current iPhone in (4 or later) and you'll get a Verizon gift card worth $200. So you'll probably be out a phone for a couple of weeks until that gift card comes in the mail.

So let's say I'm a dingbat who's on an ancient smartphone plan that costs $90 for a single line, 450 minutes, 2 gigs. The Single Line $60 plan seems like a no-brainer. How do I go about switching over to it? I've been off-contract for over a year now, but I plan on preordering an iPhone 6 tomorrow.

Does anyone have a link to Verizon's actual statement about the trade-in promotion?

I'm at 18 months on my contract now, is there a way I can renew it early so that I can actually get a phone for free? Because $200 off a 700 dollar phone isn't that great of a deal for me. If I'm going to be stuck paying full price, I'll just wait the extra six months and get it with my upgrade.

Sorry your bosses decided to do a promotion that prompted me to ask a question I wouldn't consider normally, I guess.

Yes, you will have to wait for your upgrade date to get upgrade pricing.

See, that wasn't so hard. Now I can officially go back to not giving a poo poo about phones for another 6-12 months.

Hey I just bought an iphone 5s back in May. Can I trade it in for an iphone 6 plus but keep my unlimited data? Also the name of the account is under my wife's mom's aunt. Will that be a problem? I don't want to have talk to anyone though. Maybe I can pay a goon to do that through SA Mart?

This ensures no proration headaches and will save you money for the current billing period as well. Upgrade date won't be touched and you can upgrade whenever.

Or could I port the number earlier and put a new number on the old phone? I'll end up paying like $20 extra in prorated line access fees I'd think on my More Everything plan, right? That'll also get me back on the Apple true-believer upgrade schedule that carriers do tend to work around. Anyone able to comment on this? Apart from my misuse of the word "port" which usually means moving from one carrier to another where I'd just be moving numbers within an account, possibly just by moving SIMs at first. Also, if someone feels up to it, might be time for a new thread; the first post hasn't been updated since 2012 which is the last time the OP posted in here as well. Went looking for some Edge info and found out we still don't know when the iPhone 5 will be available.

If you add a new line to get the contract pricing you'll have a 2 year contract on that line. If your existing line comes out of contract 10/1 it is possible to disconnect that line with no penalty and the "reserve" the phone number back to your account temporarily. This prevents it from recycling back into Telephone Number Inventory or (if it was originally ported in from another carrier) flying away back home to the original carrier. Once this is done you can then perform a telephone number change on your new contracted line and manually enter the number you just disconnected and reserved. When I say "you can" I mean Customer Service can if you ask for this very specific thing. You'll have to wait for the actual end date of your contract as this process of reserving the number is not allowed for lines currently in contract because Reasons. If you get someone who isn't familiar with this process tell them to search for "Telephone Number Inventory" and the first result under that topic is "Disconnecting and Transferring an MDN on the Same Account" which outlines the process.

It's actually going to be a 'virtual' gift card so nothing in the mail but you'll most likely get emailed redeemable code. Also standard trade-in rules apply, if you send in something broken or cracked you'll get less than the full trade in amount. The offer is also open to other carrier's versions of those iPhone models, not restricted to devices sold by Verizon.

That shouldn't be a big issue because you can just leverage the gift card to pay your bill? As a question, is there a better plan I should be on currently? I pay $80/month with a corporate discount for 2GB data, 500 anytime minutes, and unlimited texting. Could someone point me in a better direction?

Now I should be able to swap SIMs and put my old number on my new phone between 9/18 when I hopefully get the phone and 10/1 when my contract ends, right? And then on 10/1 swap them back before calling in since they'll deactivate that SIM.

Huh, I thought the iPhone trade promo requires you to buy the new phone on contract or on Edge, but you apparently can get it just on buying a device outright too. I might just have to send in my junk drawer iPhone 4 just to extract maximum value from it.

My apologies if I'm missing something here, just trying to figure out the logistics of this promo... I have a line with a 4S on it that has an upgrade waiting. Is there a way to trade it in for a 6 without having to spend "a couple weeks" without a phone? I unfortunately do not have a spare to put on there in-between. Can I preorder tonight and wait until the 6 gets here to send in the 4S? I understand that the credit won't be here until later.
