Hummingbird is so much better with headphones. I listened to it yesterday, well I was cleaning my house, and it was alright. Last night, with a good pair of headphones? Stunning. I was going to fall asleep to it but I ended up listening to the whole thing.

Yeah after listening through Hummingbird a few times I like it a lot lot lot. It's got a long way to go before it passes the obscene number of plays I gave Gorilla Manor, though.

The whole album is really personal, which I suspect is why headphones help.

I agree, it's not as catchy on the whole, none of the songs top the highlights of Gorilla Manor either. It seems more... dark, and laid back. However, that doesn't mean it isn't interesting and enjoyable. I like it a lot and some of the songs are great, slow building tunes that are a pleasure to my ears. It's really good.

Elphiem posted:Heard this on the Artie Lange Show: CoCo Beware is a really nice album. Nothing special, but I really liked it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FV_SS5LJZ-4 This is actually better than the album version and easily my favorite on the album. I absolutely love the vocal interplay during the main chorus, i.e., "They say you're wrong (It's all you have to give) It's alright, it's alright." The added percussion parts in the video make it hard to even listen to the album version anymore. Anyways, I'm not a huge Ty Segall fan, but the first half of Slaughterhouse is pretty good, especially this song. It rox my sox. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAXONGchVtc

I got burned by new on the scene minimalist female composers when Holly Herndon's debut LP sent me into the fetal position, yearning for the simpler days of verses, choruses and discernible melodies. I've been aware of Torres for a minute now, will she make me regret the time investment?

Hayden just released an album for the first time in a while. He's a mopey singer-songwriter that sometimes goes a little too alt-country for my taste. He also does some pretty generic indie rock, but has been going since the mid-90s. He's decently known in Canada but not so much in the US. But he's one of the best I've heard when he's really depressing so if you like Leonard Cohen, Elliott Smith -- might be something to check out. The latest album is really minimal, recorded in his house mostly by himself. The album is all right, but it also includes "Instructions" which is incredibly depressing and great.
