I would like to see the encore become less of a requirement. I've never been to a show where there wasn't one. Not that I'm complaining, but you really can't say you are ever shocked to see an encore.

The one place I still see shows with no encore on a regular basis is at music festivals (unless you're the headliner). A majority of shows at Bonnaroo, for example, have no encore. It's just get out, play a set, go.

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet. New Pixies! Pixies - "Bagboy" Stream I like it, definitely better than anything they've put out in the last 20 years (which, granted, has only really been 2 new songs). Although Kim Deal apparently isn't on the track, it sure sounds like her.

That's Jeremy Dubs doing his Kim Deal impression. I'll be flayed for this, because it's sacrilege against classic era Pixies, but I'd put this track in the top third of their songs, I like it that much.

Jagwar Ma released their debut LP, and it hasn't really seemed to hit that much with people yet, even though it's a lot better than some stuff that gets way more hype/praise. It's a trippy, catchy ride. It has this old psych vibe to it, but then it throws you for a loop with crazy electro influenced sounds. One song will sound straight up indie psych, and the next will sound like it's taking influence from LCD Soundsystem. Vibes ranging from Tame Impala to Cut Copy, yeah. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RM0xpCi8IdY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgjqhGjUIb0 Listen to these.

I heard of them because they were opening for They Might Be Giants this year, and all I have to say is they're a million times better live than on the album. Album is pretty good, but the show was great. There was a big tall thing that might have not been a saxophone (i don't know) that went WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP.

Gonna cut to the chase, I'm trying to set the mood for some sexy time with the lady. Got an indie/ambient vibe going with a few M83, xx, Burial, and Beach House tracks, but some electronic like Sia's "Numb" (Paradise Soul Remix). Kinda doing the intimate layout thing with candles and ANYWAYS, I know I'm not the first to be in this position, so anybody got some particular song recommendations for this situation?

Might I recommend Vanessa Daou? Specifically Zipless, which has Daou reading poems by Erica Jong. "Sunday Afternoons" is a drat sexy track. It's a nice blend between spoken word, jazz, and pop. Not sure if she's quite what you're looking for, though.

Holy poo poo, I'm only 4 songs into their LP but it is already one of my favourite albums from this year. Thanks so much for this. e: Just finished - yup, that was loving fantastic. Reminds me of Django Django, but with far less pop and far more psych. This will be going for many repeat listens, for sure. thehoodie fucked around with this message at 22:42 on Jul 10, 2013 |

I'll fess up to having been introduced to Australia's High Highs by a loving Pacifico commmercial, but the song in there ("Open Season") was enough to get me to check out the rest of their album, which came out stateside earlier this year (although they released an EP with "Open Season" back in late 2011). It's a good listen — I hear some Shins, Miracle Fortress, even Fleet Foxes in there. I'm partial to "Milan" and "White Water".

This is going to be essential listening after the single comes out, so you might as well ground floor this one. It's not terribly original, but man this girl can sing - the guitar tone is very Chromatics to me.
