Say, do you know how to do the walk?

I honestly think it is much easier to outrun the crimson heads than the actual zombies which I don't think was intended. As long as you know your destination, you will rarely get hit or grabbed because they take a while to wind up and by the time they do, you are already out of their range.

As for Resident Evil, I think most people simply play it for the atmosphere. For me, it wasn't about that much of the time, it was more about knowing which rooms I will visit frequently and which ones I wont. Plus, the dynamic shifts pretty heavily by the middle of the game due to having quite a bit of shotgun shells and the new enemy that is introduced.

The hardest thing to avoid were zombies, definitely. They always had their arms outstretched and if you ran close to their embrace you'd just be rewarded with a bite, Crimson heads tried to charge more, and the faster an enemy moves the less chance they actually have of getting you. So long as you kept moving, pretty much nothing could hit you.

You're also very dead on about the atmosphere. Most people nowadays decry what RE is and say they want "horror" back but I always interpret it as they want a great atmosphere back in RE and Capcom hasn't delivered that. There is always tension, but there's no care for atmosphere.

This seems pretty unlikely. Even back in the original RE there were people doing gimmick knife-only runs and Capcom adopted that wholeheartedly. That is why we got Hunk and Tofu, and later the bevy of Mercenary modes, because people were playing it for the gameplay. Even the re-releases of Resident Evil included more gameplay-heavy modes to play. The Saturn version had the Battle Game for example. I don't think it was the intended outcome but it was one Capcom adopted wholehearted.

Speaking of the fabled weapon of legend called the Knife, there's this Japanese dude who made all these insane RE4 videos using only his trusty blade.

e. I know he had another account that had way more videos than this but I can't find it. I can tell because I distinctly remember a lot of his videos had English in them and much more views.

Knife-only runs in RE4 were really fun although it kind of made it impossible to be scared of the chainsaw guys after you figured out how easy their AI was to exploit.

I definitely remember watching the videos on his other account where he fought the six Armaduras to get the grail in the castle. Knife fighting three Type 1 plagas at once is a lesson in attrition, so it took him like an hour.

e: I think this is the guy's English account? These were the videos I was thinking of anyway. He starts fighting the Armaduras in Chapter 4-1 Part 1 and doesn't beat them until Chapter 4-1 Part 19. He fought them for hours.

It's not too unusual for a company to build a 'proof of concept' demo soon after the previous game has shipped. RE5 had a teaser trailer released just nine months after RE4's release at Tokyo Game Show. Nonetheless, that game was still very in development.

I remember that video making a big deal about how it would take a few seconds for the character's/player's eyes to adjust when walking out of a building into the sunlight. I don't remember ever noticing it in the actual game.

There's a part early in the game where you have to shoot a truck coming at you on a bridge. Afterwards there's a little warehouse with like a couple crates or something inside and as you walk out of it there's this little lighting effect as a tiny remnant of that system. As far as I know the only place where you get to see any of it.

The Revelations stuff is mostly ignorable as it's all for Raid Mode. Raid mode is a hell of a lot of fun, but all the sets there are just to give you a leg up on things to begin with, and they get outclassed pretty quickly. The additional skins offer extra abilities for the characters they belong to, so they're arguably worth it, but the Lady Hunk one is just silly.

As for the RE6 stuff, again, only pick it up if you know you're going to be playing online a lot, preferably with friends or fellow goons. Otherwise, again, feel free to ignore.

The RE6 DLC is worth looking at if you played RE5 online or Mercenaries 3D with friends a lot.

RE5 was originally supposed to make the player manage a few subsystems, such as hallucinating enemies due to dehydration. They probably took it out because it interfered with the focus on action and cooperative play.

Is the 3DS version playable without the circle pad pro? Because I actually may be interested on portable Revelaitons in the future.

I haven't got the hang on RE6 yet. It feels kind of overcomplicated, which is a shame. I got it because Lunethex's LP made it look so fun, but he makes it look all so effortless, haha.

It always baffled me that the reward for doing well in these game is infinite resources, because like you said, risk versus expenditure is the entire game. Without resource management, there is no game. This is why I have a dimmer view on RE2 than most people who legitimately like the old style of games -- that game has enough ammo in it to depopulate the maps twice over. RE3 has even more ammo of course, but, Nemesis.

It's funny reading this because last time I replayed RE2 a few months ago, I ran out of ammo on the final boss. I even thought I was preserving ammo. I knew not to kill most of the zombies in the beginning before the police station and I left plenty alive if I could manage it throughout the game. Claire was just not getting poo poo for firepower. It raised my opinion on the game that I was always low on resources but it did annoy me that I had to restart on an earlier save at the end to get more ammo.

Some of the games become a lot easier once you know where all the ammo is. Much of it is hidden in hard to see places.

Yeah in Code Veronica and up there's a glint showing where you can pick up stuff for obvious refills but RE1/2/3 are more like adventure games where you click on anything that looks like it might have a box of ammo contained it, anything where there's a small space blocked by the camera positioning, etc.

Are you using the scanner thing all the time? There's a lot of hidden items all over the place. Took me a couple of stages to realise that. Scanning enemies also eventually gives you herbs, which you'll be eternally grateful for. You'll still be running low on both throughout though. I'm usually comfortable on ammo in RE games, but this and CV seem to be the stingiest when it comes pickups.

And yeah, not the last you'll see of that one, as anyone with half a brain could work out.

Its actually best to beat the game on casual or normal to get new game plus. The game becomes quite easier when you already have all the upgrades. Holy poo poo, that Scagdead fight wanted to make me tear my hair out.

Yeah, I am. Especially for the free herbs. It's mostly the ammo that's the issue, as with the Comms officer that just took like, a lot of ammo to put down.

It doesn't help that I forget about grenades and BOW decoys, but I usually remember when there's 2 or 3 BOWs so it doesn't really matter.

When you get to the ship as Chris and Jessica and you have to fight two of those things in the Casino felt way easier than the actual bossfight. Glad to know I got through one of the harder parts.

Yeah, the thing about Revelations is that it reaches Code Veronica levels of ammo, but only if you know exactly what you're doing. Even on Casual, there were a couple of moments where I had to go through a difficult stretch of the game with one herb and thirty rounds in my sniper rifle because every other gun was dry.

Once you get a feel for how each enemy works and their specific weak points, the whole game becomes much easier. You can stagger Oozes with shots to the arm and set them up for charged melee, Scagdeads love the BOW Decoys, a successful knife hit on a dog is a one-hit kill, Hunters are top-heavy and go flying when hit with a shotgun blast, etc. I see a lot of players who sleep on pulse grenades, too.
