I think I was there on the sidelines quietly giving him advice way back before I joined SA. He didn't take any of it, of course, but I like to think that's where he got "it's called being a dick" from, and that made me smile. Those were the better days, though. When he actually spent time on his writing and he managed to surprise us in ways the average guy never probably would have rather than writing out fight scenes. But who knows, maybe that's what he wanted to do. Maybe he likes this. If he was writing for himself at all before, and if he's writing for himself at all now, perhaps all we can do is let him enjoy himself. Maybe he feels we (or the people who are considered his fans, at least) have been trying to dictate the direction of his comic.

That's the thing though. He never let the fans dictate the direction of the comic until he started using it as a vehicle to get weird and mad at critics. As funny as the Tails Gets Gay pages were, in the light of the context everything he said after them they don't reflect on a good attitude towards criticism. Compare to his response to comparisons to DBZ, or jokes at the expense of Tails having three tails or Alex smoking his cigarette backwards. Something kinda changed with him and while I never like being weird and speculative about people I don't really know it's kinda curious to me if something changed.

I think everything kind of points to himself being bored with the comic. He was happy to laugh at his own mistakes before because he was enjoying it as much as we were. Now he's become frustrated with this albatros around his neck, it's a struggle to get up the enthusiasm to put out regular pages and, most galling of all, we criticise him when he does. To be fair, the last few chapters have loving sucked.
