I first saw it in the bernie 2016 primary thread, thanks to matey trying to make it a thing, short for "bust a gut laughing." not sure if it actually emerged there or just somewhere where it caught on.

hello pyf smilie thread, i was just wondering if anyone here has stats on whether or not the smilie  / is used more in the "doclouis" form or the "jollywell" form. if anyone has this information it would be greatly appreciated as i have been wondering it for several moons now. god bless.

I lean more towards :doclouis since that one is easier to remember, whereas with :jollywell I'd have to spent two and a half minutes browsing the smilies tab in Awful.app to find it. Edit: :doclouis is also in the TV, Movies, Games, & Comics section, making it easier to find.

Subjunctive posted:What do they mean? i think this was around 2014, some guy came into fyad and did the thing where people think it is popular to post incredibly racist crap in fyad for laughs or something. people told him to leave and then he suddenly turned aggressive, trying to flame everyone and such. after a few hours of this i think it was big anime fan here(RIP) who pointed out this guy has thousands of posts in a soccer chat thread. most notably about this chat thread is they kept repeating an incredibly stupid and racist phrase that i guess was a meme in the soccer chat thread, which i will paraphrase as "african american steve stole the footy". in making fun of this, forums user arfjason took a clip of doc louis and edited in a football. this became really popular in making fun of the racist soccer thread guys, and eventually i edited it into that smilie that we see today. around that time ralp for some reason changed my name to jolly well, so when ralp decided to make that an official smilie he called it "jollywell", but at the same time some other person bought it as "doclouis", and due to ralps general ineptitude both smilies remained on the site simultaneously. the reference has long since grew stale but some people occasionally post it, which is why i wondered which variation was more popular.

Not sure where it was created, but John Boehner was the former Speaker of the House (i.e. head Conservative Wrangler) and was constantly fighting his majority just so they could function. He was constantly being sabotaged by the extreme right of his caucus, the House Freedom Caucus, who are notorious idealogues and would not compromise for anything, meaning he had to convince his remaining majority to compromise with the Democrats if he wanted to get anything passed. He's because he was basically forced to eat a poo poo sandwich over and over because of his asinine HFC members. Also he was a notoriously weepy kind of guy.He's because he's a fan of cigars, whiskey, but primarily spray-tans.

I'll throw one up pre-emptively: PFY regular Randaconda had this avatar for a long time:  He frequently posts in the Anti Food Porn thread, including semi-regularly quoting somebody's ugly food picture and declaring that he would definitely eat that. Pretty normal stuff. One day we started empty-quoting him with his avatar underneath so it looked like the chubby cat was saying what he said. This was a fun joke. After a bit of this, some people got into making smilies out of it, and some other people bought those smilies.    One of the people who bought the smiley said his wife had complained to him that he was wasting money on that "stupid internet club" again, leading to the gang tag.  Anyway, by now someone has gotten mad at Randaconda for having and using vanity smileys, and has been repeatedly redtexting him about it. Personally I think it's nice that for once we went and lionized an innocuous schlub for no reason, instead of yet another terrible MSPaint artist or something. I also think it's sad that people insist on tearing him down.
