Would someone please explain the Eggplant Wizard "please leave" avatars? And what do you have to do to attain one?

Galewolf posted:Can someone remind me what :pt: is referring to? I kinda remember something about formatting or installing OS. I skimmed through the thread, someone already explained that it's for Flatten and Reinstall. The reason it's :pt: is because it was originally supposed to be :onlyoption: as in "Only Option: Flatten & Reinstall" which was a SH/SC catchphrase at the time. The reason it's not :onlyoption: has to do with radium's coding abilities, and the interaction it would've had with :o or some such bullshit. It was purchased by permabanned poster ScheisseGern. edit: it might have been intended to be :option:, memory is hazy raruler has a new favorite as of 05:51 on Jul 5, 2012 |

What's with the zombie-esque Oath Breaker avatar sets? I've seen them around here and there, but I don't know what they're about. SAclopedia doesn't really help in finding out their story.

As a way to motivate themselves to finish painting their miniatures goons will "oath" some of them in that thread to be finished by a certain deadline. If they paint/model them well enough they might win prizes, if they fail to have them finished by the deadline they get the oathbreaker avatar. It's a bit like weight-loss toxxing over in YLLS. Cobalt Chloride posted:I wanna say a mod made that one, because I remember the thread that it was born in (pretty sure it was GBS). I think all the previous reg date emoticons came about organically in the actual year once the trends of those posters emerged, but someone ruined it by making a thread at the end of 2007 saying "hey guys '08 is coming up we'd better make an emoticon" and as usual goons took it too far. So all these different emoticons were cropping up. Then people couldn't agree on which one was the best so everyone was buying different ones in an attempt to beat everyone else, all of them under the same or really similar shortcuts. So while this clusterfuck was going down and everyone was internet yelling at each other whoever's in charge of emoticon business just took all of them down and threw that up instead. Ovo posted:If I remember correctly BYOB posters bought that emote as a prank on GBS since they spent ages arguing over what it should be. BYOB got so excited about their prank that they accidently bought 2 or 3 versions of These are cool stories but the reality was that I bought that first without telling anybody because I was going to buy it anyways.

Benny the Snake posted:Would someone please explain the Eggplant Wizard "please leave" avatars? And what do you have to do to attain one? I think it started with HyperHazard buying the same avatar that Eggplant Wizard had, and PYF posters getting confused about it. There was some joking about giving HyperHazard a custom title to distinguish the two of them, and it just sort of snowballed from there. Not sure what anyone else did to get one, other than not really wanting one.

Not sure what anyone else did to get one, other than not really wanting one. Close, except I didn't buy it. There was a derail in the PYF Funny Pictures thread where people were rushing to buy these avatars, and a few people accidentally ended up with the same ones. EW told people to stop complaining, and I made a joke somewhere about stealing her flashing frog. And then the whole thing snowballed. One of the mods later owned up to it, but I don't remember who. e: And yeah, the custom title is because people kept getting confused. All of the frog avatars have butt-themed text in commemoration of EW's brief stint as Butt Wizard. hyperhazard has a new favorite as of 16:47 on Jul 5, 2012 |

To elaborate, the series is unfinished and the author takes up to five years to come up with a new GoT book. Since he's getting pretty old and isn't exactly too healthy of a guy, this has lead to fears that he will die before finishing them. This is compounded by the fact that he has apparently spends most of the time between books blogging about football and editing a series of incredibly lovely superhero books called 'Wild Cards'. It is in the resulting maelstrom of bitterness that is born.

Check out the TVIV GoT thread and pretend it's ten times worse, creepier, more misogynistic, angrier, more hate-fueled, and more antagonistic, built off of the backs of bitter, angry thread veterans that have been around for literally years. There. Throw in a couple of thread white knights that defend literally anything ol' Gurmsy writes as gold, and well that's The Bad Thread. The worst part is, the TVIV GoT thread is one of the worst threads in TVIV, which says something to the terribleness of The Bad Thread. NieR Occomata has a new favorite as of 05:49 on Jul 6, 2012 |

Thanks for asking about the Wild Cards tag, Benny the Snake. Those tags have long puzzled me, and the explanation has me worried, given that ~90% of my nerdy friends think Wild Cards is a great series. Now I wonder if something sinister lurks beneath their interest
