I'm assuming :sweatdrop: came from the anime subforum because it looks like a cliche anime face. It's so cute, and I wish people used it more.

The ME2 smilies are kind of silly, but nothing beats :wcc: for the simple absurdity of somebody spending three times the cost of the actual game on a meme that died as soon as it was born.

HenessyHero posted:

When that thread was happening, it was the raddest thread there was. I remember some people posting that they had registered just to read and participate in it, which is weird for just a normal games thread. That party train eventually derailed because it got a little too chatty in there and so there'd be like two thousand new posts without particular reason. Some people hate it when, for example, the Order of the Stick thread gets like 80 new posts without there being a new strip. You can imagine what that must be like when there's two thousand. :v:

It's a shame ME3 couldn't garner that much enthusiam. Well, enthusiasm for something other than its ending anyway.

It was such a big deal that the ME3 fan pandering DLC had tons of shout-outs to our ME threads.

I've heard this but I've literally never seen it said what the supposed references were. To the point I'm starting to doubt there actually were references.

Do you actually have a list or know any of the references?

"I thought we had something, Shepard. Something real."
:qq:
You'd need to pm precision for a list, he was the one who first noticed (because there was a reference to his person on there somewhere?) and he got in contact with a bioware rep. IIRC there were a substantial amount of references, but they were mostly of the oblique kind. No NPCs named magimix or anything like that on there.

Am I missing out on something happening or is this like a subforum's subculture thing?

They're referencing early DOS games which could only have a 4 colour palette, with cyan and magenta being one of the more commonly used ones. I assume it's a YOSPOS thing.

They're from this thread:
http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3562596

When echinopsis posted that thread, he had a video codec avatar, . At some point horse mans started buying people posting in that thread those lower resolution cga game graphics avatars, then others started to convert their existing avatars to cga color palette.

I made it for the Australian Politics thread where it seems to be taking the place of :foxnews: as a way of saying "Oh, it's just News Corp".
But you can use it in any context you like, from sensationalist headlines to actual test results discovering that something was indeed poo.

Hope that helps.

It is a can of worms which represents the English colloquial idiom of "opening a can of worms," i.e. to make a statement or ask a question that has a high likelihood of starting a long or controversial conversation that is perhaps only tangentially related to the original subject of conversation.
