Yes, the game is completely equal opportunity here. FWIW, the entire collection was available in real-life gatcha machines in Japan (made somewhat useful by turning them into small-change pouches): https://sumally.com/p/988053

Another question. Hajime mentions never seeing a motel before. That seems really impossible from an American. I guess most long range Japanese travel is done on train?
American-style motels aren't a thing in Japan, at all. Japan is small enough that even if you don't go by plane or bullet train (which *is* one of the most popular ways to travel), most destinations are reachable in less than a day even by car. Cheap accommodation for short stays is usually done in so-called "business hotels", which don't look or feel like motels in any way.

I've never seen a motel in the UK, either; my first encounter with one was on a visit to California. I've always thought of them as a specifically American thing, although I suppose it's possible you get them elsewhere. You can drive the entire length of Great Britain in fifteen hours, so you're unlikely to ever take a car journey lasting more than a day here.

Some service stations will have a Travelodge or something attached just in case but it's not really any different from a standard hotel.

Do Japanese teenager really not have sex?
I'd be very surprised if there's any country on earth where teenagers don't have sex, though I'd suppose the frequency would be influenced by cultural norms. I'm not sure what part of DR2 implies the opposite, but whatever it is I guess I'd assume it's like how you never see American games admit that teenagers drink alcohol.

So I'm halfway through trial 5 of two and the tonal whiplash is insane. Is "front tail" a Japanese euphemism or is it a localization issue? '

Danganronpa 3 is more expensive than the first 2. Does it have a lot more content?

My play time on V3 is about ten hours more than my time on S2, which is itself twice my time on 1. A few hours of that is definitely the talent program/monokuma dungeon sidegames though.

https://www.danganronpa.com/2x2/en/ Danganronpa 2x2 (Danganronpa 4? Danganronpa 2102?) is an alternate scenario of Danganronpa 2 "with the same setting and characters but different victims and culprits... with just as much gameplay as the original". It also includes a full remake (?) of Danganronpa 2 in its updated engine which looks to add a lot of kinetic text and Live2D-looking sprite animations. It's launching TBA 2026. Spike Chunsoft is running the show but Kaz Kodaka and other members of TooKyo Games are involved. Kodaka is supervising and he and Takekuni Kitayama are credited with "original concept and trick ideas". Rui Komatsuzaki is on art, Masafumi Takada and Jun Fukuda are on sound. Yoichiro Koizumi is credited as the main scenario writer. He ran scenario for Ultra Despair Girls and Zanki Zero, did assorted sub stories including Rain Code's DLCs, and wrote some routes in Hundred Line including my surprising favourite (Romance) and everyone's joint least favourite (Conspiracy) so who the gently caress even knows. We all knew Danganronpa wouldn't stay dead! That was why they killed it in the first place!

The new scenario is funny because it's incredibly easy to change how the entire rest of the story plays out by just switching the first victim to the intended one

Some thoughts: 1. Even if they kept the same number of survivors, that's around seven characters that's going to die in both games. RIP. 2. I'm going to already assume that Hiyoko will live over Fuyuhiko since that was the original plan for the game before they decided on the latter to live since it would otherwise undo Peko's sacrifice. It's also why they brushed over Hiyoko's cause of death in the actual game. 3. Hoping for Nekomaru to live since the buff characters never live to the end.

ApplesandOranges posted:Some thoughts: As an aside, I'd heard the story of the Hiyoko/Fuyuhiko survivor swap was actually more complicated than popularly thought. Apparently, rather than it being a simple victim/survivor swap, Fuyuhiko had been planned as the Chapter 4 victim, and would have turned into a robot instead of Nekomaru after his attempt to interfere in Peko's execution. But the writers realized that would have made his character a bit too silly, so they gave that plot to Nekomaru, who'd originally been planned as the second Chapter 3 victim. But then killing off Fuyuhiko so soon after Peko's sacrifice would have felt cheap, so they let him survive, and had Hiyoko as Chapter 3 victim instead. It'll be interesting to see what they do with this "alternate scenario". Though I'm 50/50 on if they actually let Nagito be the first victim this time. On one hand, it'd be exactly the kind of surprise first death this series is known for. On the other hand, would they really go in that direction, given how popular that character is?

I am kinda curious to see what directions they take the DR2 cast. The original scenario had some characters that I found really well done (Sonia, Fuyuhiko, of course Nagito) and some that just felt like they went absolutely nowhere good (Akane, Kazuichi, Teruteru). Knowing my luck though it'll just end up with some of my favourite designs dying in Chapter 2 like it has for all three games.
