Yes. They also have a similar character simply named "Panda" as opposed to "Kumaneko" or whatever so who knows what the hell's going on with the localisation there.

Kumaneko is technically a Japanese word for panda, but the normal Japanese word is "panda"

Unfortunately, I don't. I've been taking that opinion with a grain of salt because it's a lot better than thinking a localization company deliberately chose to leave "Kuma" untranslated.

Edit: Huh. I found it on an anime forum. Even more reason to take it with a grain of salt. In my defense, I thought I found it on NIS's forums.

You probably did find it there, it was just buried in one of the topics.

I'm also totally buying the physical limited edition they hinted about.

And, I really hope you do well Dangan Ronpa. Being able to play Dangan Ronpa 2 in English actually some time in 2014 and not who knows when would be swell.

I'm nearly finished with DR1 from the HD Reload Japan release, but I think I'm going to dip in again so hopefully we do see DR2 here sooner rather than later (or never.)

Oh? They're localizing Leon as Leo? Well I guess that makes the 11037 thing a little less weird because I always have a hard time seeing that there wasn't enough blood to connect the two ones.

Maybe that'll make it a little less obvious, at least. Though I'm a little puzzled that they'll change "Leon" to "Leo," and not "Monokuma" to "Monobear."

I really want to order it but Christmas is coming and money is tight, did NISA charge you immediately after you made the order? I looked at their FAQ but the section for pre-order billing seems to be copy/pasted from regular billing, which tells me I should go to the pre-order billing section for further information. That's kind of confusing.

I ordered with Paypal, and the status on my account says "pending." I assume it just hasn't processed yet, and that they charge you immediately.

That usually means that they'll wait until the release date to charge you. I've had that message before when ordering Good Smile Company's products from their online shop.

Do note that NISA will make a temporary charge for the full amount, and refund it within a week. But yeah.

And hey, they deliver internationally now, which is neat.

So don't worry
Does anyone who ordered special editions from NIS before know if they ship before or on the day of release? It'd be a bummer to not get to play right on release day if they don't ship it out so you actually get the game on the 11th or 12th at the least.

AFAIK: don't count on it. NISA's store is kinda bad for hitting release dates. You'll probably get it the week later.

I'd say it's worth it in this case, because special edition. Unless you're just getting the regular edition, in which case you should probably just order it from Amazon, or preorder it from GameStop.

I expected DR's box release in NA to be even more niche then it was in Japan, and mostly done via the internet but Best Buy was advertising pre-orders. I don't really go there much, is it common for them to just advertise everything that's coming up in their stores and fliers?

Eh, that's just a few short voice clips taken out of the context of what voice relates to which character, can't really garner much of anything off of that. That being said, I think Monobear's voice sounds about as goofy as I was expecting it to sound and from what little I could hear of Bryce Pappenbrook, he sounded fine.

EDIT: I'm still really annoyed his name is Monokuma.

I have to agree with this most of all. The voices are kind of hit-or-miss (Monobear is annoyingly great, but Togami and Naegi, yeesh) but the game coming with the option to play in Japanese makes my complaints on them pretty moot.
I really, really do not like that font, it sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the game's aesthetic.

Butt Ghost
Nov 23, 2013

I'll have to sit down and listen when the game is actually released, but I didn't like Monokuma's voice. It just didn't sound right, but I'll have to see how it actually is in-game matched to the character. Some of the students sounded hit and miss too...

Edit: I think that clip for Monokuma didn't sit well with me because it didn't sound sinister enough. It was playful, but not sinister at the same time.

Edit: ^^^^^ Monokuma never sounded sinister from the clips I've heard though, he sounds really aloof and out there.

I love English Monokuma, it fits the "dumb cartoon voice" he's supposed to have like a glove :allears:

Togami actually is the only one that bothered me, his voice actor sounded so bored with the line they put in, like he was about to fall asleep.

Did he? I don't have the firmest grasp of Japanese, so I'm not the most qualified to judge this, but he always sounded like he had some sort of... I don't know the word. I don't want to say "gruffness," but that's the only thing coming to mind at the moment. I'll have to listen to his Japanese voice again. It could just be the actor's age I'm hearing.

He always sounded arrogant and condescending to me. :v: I guess it's a little too early to have any real impressions on voices though. At least, for anyone not named Monobear Monokuma.

Edit: Is it just me, or does that one screenshot of Sakura make it seem like she's not speaking formally?

Most of Monobear's sinister nature comes from the fact he's voiced by Doraemon, but instead of the character being a goofy loveable cat thing he's just a murderous bear. If you never grew up with Doraemon, then basically you have no reason to think that bear sounds anything other than goofy as hell, which he always does. He has very few moments where he's outright evil sounding, for the most part his delivery is through him talking in a calm/goofy demeanor about terrible things. Danganronpa likes to do casting gags much like a lot of other stuff which bases itself in Japanese pop culture.

Butt Ghost
Nov 23, 2013

I know of Doraemon, but I certainly didn't grow up with it. I guess not sounding sinister enough isn't what's off to me. Maybe it's the acting quality, or just because I'm too used to his Japanese voice.

I dunno, I played through the game a few times and I think the trailer's VA work was alright.

Not a fan of Naegi's voice though. And the trailer spoiled one of the executions straight up, go figure.

Eh, so long as you aren't saying that the English dub is a horrible insult to glorious nippon and that it's racist to even have an English dub, there's nothing wrong with preferring one over the other. I play Street Fighter IV with the Japanese voices just because I main Bison and want to hear Norio Wakamoto.

Ara

Not that any games in general really have stellar voice work, but the reason you're all complaining about the voices is just that you got used to the Japanese ones. I played Persona 3 and 4 first in Japanese and hearing the English dubs makes me cringe from how weird and wrong it sounds, but people on here will defend its English voices to the death. It's the same thing.

Somehow I think you'd find even those who played Persona in english to be less than enthused with the dub work in places. And I dunno, thus far it just sounds like dubbed anime always sounds, not necessarily good but not offensively bad.
