Just finished it, and I'm very impressed, holds its own with the likes of Hotel Dusk and Phoenix Wright. I really should get back to playing VLR if its as even nearly as good as this. Great stuff and looking forward to the sequel (which seems to be coming soon even!).

Now that the game is up on EU PSN, I guess I should pick it up to support the release (don't need the physical copy that much after buying the original one), though to be honest, some localization decisions still sound pretty questionable to me. I've seen a CG with all the fashion magazines from the prologue, and it has random letters instead of proper articles. But then I checked out the original CG, and it's exactly the same in that aspect. Guess it's just more apparent now that the game can be played on the big Vita screen.

I think the best thing I can use to describe this game is "uncomfortable". That's not necessarily a bad thing though. Just starting chapter 2, and the only three people that I'm comfortable saying won't die soon are Kyoko, Byakuya, and Sakura.

If I preordered from Amazon, it would cost me 5 bucks less than preordering the LA from NISA since they don't charge tax, but amazon does for my state now. And I like to think that the LE selling out fast helped convince to start on DR2 and if they do the LE again, and it sells out fast, it'll help convince them to take DR3 on when it comes out.

I maybe in the minority here, but I like what they did with Monokuma's voice. The impression that I got was that he was supposed to sound like a really grating kid's show host.

Oh look, the LE arrived. Apparently, Fed Ex wasn't kidding when they said that they were going to bring this here today. Er, to avoid spoilers, don't read the titles of the CD. The CD covers the music for all of the executions.

Is it just me, or is the sound quality in this game really low? Like watching a video at 240p or something? Maybe it's just my earbuds, but they seem fine with everything else. edit: The button sensitivity is pretty annoying too. I keep accidentally double-tapping through text boxes. :/ edit2: at least the dub is much better than the trailers let on. But I am really disappointed with Ogami's voice. I was expecting Kenshiro, not what sounds like some guy who just swallowed helium... Butt Ghost fucked around with this message at 02:20 on Feb 15, 2014 |

Finally got impatient and did a digital download, I already love it even more than I thought. As a guy who imported and played the Japanese psp version to completion both with and without the fanpatch and I'm still excited for what's to come with the English version. Everything looks and sounds so much prettier on the Vita screen and I can't loving wait for the HD English version of 2

Just got the game today. Quite torn between JP and EN audio, having played through the prologue for both. So far Yamada and Celes seem to rise much more in the English version, while in Japanese Asahina, Togami and Sakura are much better. Kirigiri's good in both versions, but her JP voice is quite institutionalized in my mind so who knows. How are the Chapter 4 'breakdowns' and Chapter 6 final Non-Stop Debate in English? Those were two of the biggest selling points for me in the Japanese VAing so they'd be one of the bigger sways.

Huh so this is going to be the first game I import a physical copy for in over a year. The $40 USD price means that it is as much as importing so I may as well do that. I liked the effort put in to the let's play on the forums here but am looking forward to actually playing through it.

Actually, I'm pretty surprised they included a big quality of life feature (not showing the results screen for every trial phase, but waiting till the end like DR2) but didn't fix the annoying thing where any evidence bullets that get added to your inventory in investigation phases restarts the song. So you never to get hear more than 30 seconds of Box 15.

The English VA is such a surprise to me. Listening to it from the trailers one would think it might suck, but nope. It's really good. I think NIS America really excelled themselves here with this localization. Really impressed with the dialogue/writing in the game and since games like this live and die on the characters/writing it's safe to say that they did a great job. The story/characters is crazy good. Chapter 1 already felt refreshing since it [end of Chapter 1 spoilers] does a good job playing with your preconceived idea on what's going to happen. I honestly thought that Sayaka would be the love interest for the entire game, similar to June in 999, but nope, she's the first victim and turns out to be the first one to cause the murder and the despair to start happening. I highly recommend this one to Zero Escape/Ace Attorney fans, since it's got elements of both of those games in this. I love the social links the game has too.

The only stuff I'm disappointed in is how Jack and Fukawa had two different voice actresses and so did the real Junko. Also Genocider Jack is...a weird name change. It's a minor gripe really since I knew the dub wouldn't be be able to do a one woman Junko show. But I had hopes. Other than that, it seems to be a good translation and dub. (Blackened aside) I'm really impressed.

There's something about Togami's English voice I really can't stand. It fits him, but it just annoys me, I guess. It's too... monotone, maybe?

I actually find Sakura's worse. It's such a huge jump from her Japanese voice. Kirigiri's isn't bad, but I find myself missing her Japanese voice after a long time of hearing her English one.

So, I never really played the PSP edition and just read the LP, but it seems like all the Vita changes like tapping and back touchpad tapping makes the game a lot easier.

I'm sort of glad I didn't play the Japanese voices first, I'll save that for another playthrough, since I don't have an image on what they should sound like. It's cool just knowing what they're actually saying when it's the half voiced/reaction voices clips.Ineffiable posted:So, I never really played the PSP edition and just read the LP, but it seems like all the Vita changes like tapping and back touchpad tapping makes the game a lot easier. Well, poo poo. I wanted to test out Concentration because I hadn't used it yet...and then I look at the trophies and see there's one for never using it. D'oh. Guess that means an easy playthrough with the JP voices!

The end of chapter 2 just made me ill. I'm at the investigation part of chapter 3, and I think I already know what's going on. I still think the best way to describe this is as the most "uncomfortable" game I've ever played.

So being a sad fool who can't wait for anything, I went ahead and ruined SDR2 for myself with a Japanese LP. I really didn't love the middle chapters but ABSOLUTELY loved chapters 5 and 6... except for the very very ending. I saw that this was covered briefly earlier in the thread, but I was wondering if, now that some time has passed, anyone had a better/more concrete explanation for why Hinata was Hinata and not Kamakura at the end? The ~power of love and hope~ explanation is just so disappointing to me. Not that I wouldn't have wanted Hinata to come back eventually, but I loved the idea of him and the others having to actually rehabilitate over time.
