Well at least with the "h" there, we can have somewhat of a reference to hamsters.

I beat Dangan Ronpa 1 a few minutes ago, and I'm surprised that compared to something like Phoenix Wright 5, there were barely any typos. I did notice a big one, though... Near the end of the game, Naegi's title is supposed to be Ultimate Hope in the report card, right? but it says Ultimate Despair. Woops. Still, I liked the dub and the translation a lot more than I thought I would. Good product.

Is the achievement for getting 999 coins cumulative regardless of if you spend them, or do you have to have all of them at once? Because if it's the latter... ugh, that's definitely gonna be the biggest pain in the rear end achievement in the game.

Which sucks, but apparently finishing School mode gets you 200, and you're gonna go through it 4 times if you want the trophy for that mode. So that's a big chunk right there. You can also get a skill from Celeste that gives you 3 coins instead of just 1 when you find them exploring.

I'm almost finished with the game and it looks like I'll have 400ish coins once it's done. Coins are cumulative between both modes right? Seems like once you get that 999, then its a good time to splurge it all on the presents.

(I finished the main game already.) I'm also gonna try to get all the trophies, though, and one of them involves buying every single thing in the gallery, so that's gonna set me back about 700 anyway from what I've gathered. That's good to hear about School Mode though.

Is it possible to do a NG+ mode? Seems like you would have to in order to max out your skills and be friends with everyone. Seems like a platinum is possible with 2 regular game playthroughs (assuming there is a NG+), and 4 school modes? As long as you don't screw up collecting 999 coins at once and remember to do your white noise and to do chapter 1 without taking damage or using concentration.

Hahahaahaha... hahahaha. Oh man, (End game spoilers) they did a better job with making Junko seem nutty than the Japanese voice. Her voice literally changes depending on the personality between Erin Fitzgerald and Amanda Celine Miller, I did not see this coming. I honestly expected Fitzgerald to just voice Junko alone, I didn't expect them to share the character when she brought this up on her twitter, this is awesome. There's so many layers to this decision like even Toko and Jack is a nice precedent for this because it justifies the entire voice change between the personalities. NISA seriously did a stellar job with the localization and voice acting, god drat.

How's the final non-stop debate in English? It was a pretty great moment in the Japanese but it'd be interesting to see if the VAs could pull off that bit. I haven't been that fond of Kirigiri and Asahina's English VAs, but I'm only on Chapter 3 and it'd be nice if they grew more into their roles later on.

It was fine. I mean that was never the moment I was like "WHOA" throughout the trial when I read the LP, Junko honestly was always the main event. Although the voice actors do a. fine job with coming from sorrow to determination. I was honestly more stricken by the final Bullet Time Battle and how nuts Miller and Fitzgerald went with the character at that point.

Sorry for the double post, but another VA has been confirmed for SDR2. Nagito Komaeda - Bryce Papenbrook Hiyoko Saionji - Kira Buckland Sonia Nevermind - Natalie Hoover Chiaki Nanami - Christine Cabanos Kazuichi Souda - Kyle Hebert Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu - Derek Stephen Prince We've also got confirmation JYB is voicing a character, most likely Gundam or Hinata.

Did he just spoil who the villain is? I hope not. Also why do they keep misspelling it as "Rompa"?

Quick question - how easy is it to toggle the voices? For example, does it only let you set the language you want to hear the voices in at the start of the game, meaning you're stuck with those for the whole run, or can you switch between languages whenever you want?

You are not able to change to change voices once you start the game. If you want to change them after starting, you will have to restart the game.

Who was Celes' English VA? Her performance in Trial 3 was absolutely smashing.

ApplesandOranges posted:Who was Celes' English VA? Her performance in Trial 3 was absolutely smashing. I think it's Tara Platt. I have no real confirmation for this, but when she drops the act she sounds like a normal voiced version of Mitsuru and her french accent made me think of Tron Bonne quite a bit too. I don't know for sure if it's her, but that's the closest voice I can pin it on.

Funny you say that, because Tara Platt voiced Mitsuru and Tron Bonne.

Were the actors not listed in the credits?

I haven't seen the credits, but that wouldn't be surprising, considering a lot of dubs for these games involve Union shenanigans. People in Atlus don't even know who Naoto's voice actress is.

Chapter four just broke me. The trials where a friend breaks down over a revelation (Taka/Mondo, Aoi/Sakura) are what kills me. It's not so much the actual deaths, but the friend's reactions to their deaths. And then when Monokuma said he had a "suitable stand-in" for the Punishment, I thought it was going to be his "hostage", and I just lost it when I saw Alter Ego on the screen. Fuuuuuuuck.

Wait, why don't actors get credited unless it's a union project? Is casting usually outsourced to a different studio that doesn't keep records?

It's something to do with how union actors can only be credited for so many roles per year, so if they're uncredited, they can do more work (that isn't paid as much, but these guys love doing this so much that I guess they don't mind).

Uh, wouldn't the whole point of a Anime Voice Actor's Union to be a union to support the voice actors? That seems like a really strange choice for a rule. I couldn't find anything about this with a quick Google (I probably got the union name wrong though), so to prevent me from making GBS threads up the thread with unrelated questions, can you point me towards some more info?

It's not an anime voice actor's union, it is a union for many kinds of actors. http://thevoiceofyourbusiness.com/blog/2013/04/25/should-a-voice-actor-join-the-union/

School Mode is surprisingly addicting. Just watching my little sprite buddies harvest for materials is fun and the extra trip stuff is fine, or it would be if it didn't take more than 10 days to max someone out.

Finished Chapter 1, I knew the game was brutal (I thumbed though the LP and I've seen chapter 2's execution) but actually playing it made it all too clear that there's no loving around here. That said, I didn't really get the rhythm battle part until I lost that part the first time around.

Just finished up playing, and I'm glad I never read the LP because playing and seeing the story unfold for the first time was great. I really enjoyed the story, the characters, and the reveals were great. The one thing I would have liked to see is (ENDING SPOILERS) how the world actually looks outside! Though since there's a sequel I guess the world hasn't actually ended like Junko said.
