Yeah I don't think we should be expecting an anime for the second game. From what I heard the first season sold poorly, which isn't surprising because it was a pretty low budget and heavily watered down adaptation. The animation studio is going to be making cutscenes for DR:AE judging from magazine scans but that's about it.

Cosnidering the thread's length, I'm not sure if this discussion has been had, but what is everyone's interpretations on the Nagito's will section where his will glitches out, and everyone temporarily comes back to life to say one line?. Do you think it's Hajime going mad from the revelation of everyoone's deaths? Or a glitch in the matrix? Or both? Or something entirely different? I have my own thoughts, but I would like to hear everyone else's.

lots of spoilers, discussing characters' roles in the endgame.

You definitely have a point there, but I feel there was a related flaw with the endgame of DR1. Togami is supposed to be super intelligent, but this is supposed to be Naegi's time to really shine, so he spends most of the last trial having kneejerk reactions to everything instead of actually helping. You would think he of all people would see a photo not containing one classmate given to him by Monokuma and not immediately jump to the conclusion that Monokuma is genuinely trying to be helpful and point him in the direction of the correct identity of the mastermind. Otherwise I agree with all your other points.

I'm not sure it can even be called a flaw in the first place. Part of the point of DR2 chapter 5 was that Hinata lost all his support for the class trials (Nanami and Komaeda), leaving him without anyone to rely on. This contributes to the "true hopelessness" feeling of the finale. If Sonia or whoever had stepped up to the plate as a replacement for Nanami, I don't think the emotional narrative they were trying to push would make any sense.

Also spoiler tags do work in quotes. Must have been some other problem.

It was most likely Junko (as it always is) making sure to lead them to the final battleground. You can probably attribute the glitches in Nagito's will to be the same, she didn't want him to spoil the plot.

I'm glad you mentioned that. I got that feeling as well at the very end of chapter 5, when you get the count of surviving students. Both Nanami and Komaeda get ticked off right on either side of Hinata, leaving him alone in the middle. It was a nice added touch to just rub it in how brutal that whole trial was.

It's morbidly funny to compare both chapter 5's and see how much worse Hinata has it. In DR1, either Naegi or Kirigiri was going to get executed, and you can see that bad end of losing Kirigiri. But it gets taken back as a joke, and you save her after all, with Naegi lucking out of the execution he was going to take in her place. So in DR2, you probably go in wondering if it's right to point out Nanami or not, and if there's a way to save her just like with Kirigiri. I'm sure that it's no coincidence that the Tetris execution is very similar to the Detention smash. Even once the execution starts, there's that tease where she sees an escape door, but nope, that doesn't help. In DR1, it seemed like either Naegi or Kirigiri would have to sacrifice themselves for the other, but they both pulled through after all. In DR2, both of the major plot characters bite it.

Finished DR2 and I have to heap praise on the incredible post-trial sequence where the world breaks down completely after Chiaki's execution. Some unsettling stuff to play through, especially when the cast actually seemed to think Nagito was the only person who ever died. Actually just chapter 5, and Nagito's character in general were absolutely outstanding.

For a fun bonus bit, check the cottages of the dead people after chapter 5 trial. Only Nagito's gets the normal regretful remark from Hajime, the other dead people's cottages have some glitchy poo poo going on.

I think what I like most about Nagito is that he represents the fact that the cast this time around is a lot more broken then the cast from the first game.

Not to mention that in his POV manga his dead dog was actually run over by a truck, and at least twenty(?) people have died as a result of his luck. Since his life apparently wasn't enough of a train-wreck already.

Supplementary materials and the games creator revealed He was not bullshitting, he was lying that he was bullshitting. He just lasted longer then the Doctors predicted he would. Despite this there is implications that he is the only one of the dead students that is really dead. Speculation is that his body gave out and died while he was in the program.

I don't know how much of a thing that was in the Japanese version, but in English version Hanamura seems to just randomly say names of female celebrities during his breakdown. We already have the random "Avril Lavigne!", he refers to Chiaki as "Cher" at some point, and during his PTA sometimes he'll yell "Paris Hilton!". I'm still not sure what they were even going for with that.

I don't know my dialects very well but I think him saying "Cher" is a bastardization of the French "Chere" that Cajun people happen to use. At the very least I've seen other fictional characters using it a bunch in the same way. They have their own version of French in Louisiana that sounds pretty odd to the common person.
