Steam page is up. I would imagine DR2 is not far behind. Maybe UDG in the future. It also makes me wonder if they'll release 3 on Steam upon release.

Steam version launches today! I'm unsure if the art is actually nice 1080P quality or not but that's gonna be a deciding factor if I decide to repurchase.

It's hard to justify buying these games again personally given the lack of replayability (knowing who all the killers are and remembering most of the key points in the trials), but I really hope these PC releases are successful. Cool obscure Japanese games only getting released on portable systems that are long dead in the west is really unfortunate. I'm sure the success of Valkyria Chronicles on PC for example did a lot to ensure the new one will be released in the west. The fact that the new one is going to be a console game instead of a psp/vita game probably helped its odds of getting released over here quite a bit too. I know DR3 is going to be on ps4 anyway, but if I'd been able to play things like DanganRonpa on my pc back in the day I could have saved some good money on that vita.

Valkyria Azure Revolution is more of an offshoot. You have control a few party members. On the field, you can shoot at enemies to pluck off their health. When they come to you, however, the game goes into this sort of Tales of type battle.

I'm tagging because the the following is about the ending of AE and DR1. I've been replaying DR1 and Junko very clearly states that she never thinks ahead and is incapable of sticking to a plan once it's been settled and enjoys capriciously adapting and improvising as things develop out of her control but in AE the entire story is played as a hakneyed "all according to my plan" style plotline with the usual implausible level of cause and effect management. Incidentally, I think I've just got the hang of bullet time battles. At the end of DR1 there's a really tough BTB against Monokuma (or it's tough on mean difficulty) and the trick is: 1) You have to target, shoot and reload to the beats 2) It's impossible to not take damage unless you use fever time 3) Getting a pattern of shooting and reloading - shifting to fever when in trouble - then going back to pattern while fever regenerates is how you stay above water

Yeah, one of the biggest crimes of DR sequels is they deify Junko more than DR1 implies. Like it's already said she has some influence in what happened, but the extents that DR2 and UDG take it to is loving ridiculous and stupid.

There was a very naughty girl and she ended the world (somehow). I liked that it, it was very bold and of course everything she said could well have been a lie and I'm not entirely satisfied by the follow through. Now that I've refinished DR1 I think I'll try reading the light novels that ignored the first time round. DR2 has one called Danganronpa: If and there's one that unlocked on completion of AE. Tangentially, I think the Beautiful Days track is trying to recall the Westminster Chimes. All the music in this game is really good.

I sort of figured when I was playing DR2 that they were going to try to explain it a little more rationally, what with DESPAIR being a group instead of just Junko but no, apparently not. I'm sort-of interested in what they're planning on showing the general state of the world as being like. I assumed it'd be Mad Max esque warlords from the first game but I gather the spinoff basically set up a Junko 2.0 or something?

They didn't care about explaining anything in DR2.

No, they explained that Uktinate Despair hosed Junki's corpse, that was a nice little nugget of info.

I feel bad for anything negative I might have said about DR2 because it's really pulled me in right from the start. I like the fact that it's a total clean slate from the first. As with DR1 this is my second playthrough. I liked the way Usami's sudden appearance in the classroom is presented as a moment of horror despite there being nothing horrific about it. It's played as an anime about ordinary people dropped into an anime. "The world around me just stopped making sense". Maybe AE was just the one really bad DR game. Maybe they shouldn't have shoehorned Junko back in at the end but then we would miss out on sperg Junko.![]() e:Yipikaye Prurient Squid fucked around with this message at 13:07 on Feb 27, 2016 |

I wish I shared your taste. At the very least I think we both share enthusiasm for V3. Not too sure about DR3 though.

I like the part of AE where you have to find a singing child whilst Beast Monokumas patrol the area, that was tense and a lot of fun. I think it's a shame that DR2 is limited in terms of adaptations because I'm holding off on spoilers to a friend despite the fact that they'll never play it. I guess I either have to wait for a new adaptation or show them the stage play and try explain the developments as I understand them. Having read the thread in hayday I am pleasantly surprised how little I remember in my new playthrough. For those who haven't read today's news: DR3 is actually *two* anime series. The first one ("Future Chapter") airs in July and is the one with Naegi, Kirigiri, Asahina and Hagakure, as well as all of these new characters. Later on we'll get another series (dubbed "Despair Chapter") that goes back to The Incident and features all of the DR2 cast pre-DR2.

Here's the new trailer for the anime It's has a recap of DR1 and DR2(so heavy spoilers there) but also, like oren said, that the new anime will have two arcs and it shows the DR2 prequel designs.

Interesting... this setup might lend credence to a theory I've had regarding NDRV3 and it's relation to the "Hope's Peak" chapter of the series. If I recall, before information on the new game and anime came out, the developer had stated in an interview that Back to the Future might be an influence in the third game in the series. So what if the third game takes place in an alternate timelime where the Despairing Incident was prevented, and the resulting apocaylpse never happened? Maybe the first series will end with Naegi going back in time to stop the incident (or sending information back in time for the same goal), and the second series shows how the Incident was averted? I notice that the preview shows Hajime as himself, and not as Izuru Kamukura(which would make sense if the series took place during the Incident). I wonder if there's some significance to this? Maybe the timeline change somehow reverses the Ultimate Hope programming and causes Izuru to revert back to Hajime.

Considering DR's track record with things that aren't games, I'm sure it'll... uh.... Be animated. Yeah, there's probably going to be animation involved! I think we can safely say there will at some point be animation.

I haven't seen it but wasn't one of the problems with the anime of the first game that they straight up reused cutscenes from the game? At least they can't do that this time around.
And other big problem was they trying to put the whole game in 12 episodes and that led to skipping stuff or having awful pacing. Since this a original story it won't have that problem, even if it might have like 12 episodes for each arc.
I liked the anime well enough but yes, its biggest problem was how fast it had to race through the whole story to fit it in 13 episodes. An entire chapter would be finished in two episodes. If anyone didn't know the games and was watching the anime as their first introduction to the series, there is no time at all to establish a connection to any of the characters like with the games. The murders don't feel as meaningful and there's no real time to start liking a character before they die.
A problem with the anime is that it averages about a death an episode (or is it every two episodes?) In the visual novel you can never be sure when a dead body is going to show up but in the anime it's like clockwork and it detracts from the suspense.
