Intoluene posted:V3 Ch1 spoilers. The promotional video is simultaneously one of the creepiest and hilarious things this series has done. I wanted to elaborate on this, do you figure that's one of the videos Mitarai made ? 'Cause it's definitely at least a callback. Maybe if nobody planned a murder, someone would've been forced to.

It kinda felt like they were running out of concrete places to take the plot of the series. Not looking for spoilers, just curious whether it's worth the $60. V3 is a wild ride and the highs more than make up for any lows in my opinion.

None of the main games feel unnecessary the same way Ultra Despair Girls and the anime feel. You should play it.

Finally got around to finishing the last bit of V3 and holy crap do I like V3 a lot.

i'm glad that history is vindicating V3's ending

The way it went in Japan was, people who's obsessed with DR enough to finish V3 the week after release: "The ending ruins the game". Everyone else, a month later: "This is pretty good!".

V3 Ch 2 Spoilers: I can confirm that the ending to this trial was hosed, that this trial in itself was so much godamn fun, and that Kokichi is the best.

Finished the game last night. Chalk me up as someone who really liked the ending twists and this was probably my favorite dangan ronpa game overall. I liked how it didn’t actually go the meta route of the characters realize they are fictional being controlled by a player but it’s really more accurate to say they signed up to do hardcore role playing but they were still “real” people who had just been mind wiped into different personalities. I’ve greatly enjoyed all 3 dangan ronpa games but I feel satisfied with the series being over, which it should be given that ending. I feel like they’ve mined all they could from the premise of the main line games and I think the spinoff games and anime were bad so I certainly don’t need any more of that stuff either. That said I would still play a dangan ronpa 4 but they should wait like a decade before going that route if they do it at all. I don’t think they could ever top kokichi as a character.

The anime was dogshit but I wouldn’t exactly call it unnecessary. It basically wraps up every loose end in the franchise (badly). V3 is totally worth the money though.

One question I have about the anime is why are people so down on Junko in it? I thought she was rib-crushingly hilarious, especially "Get over it slut, we're dead!" and yelling "YASS QUEEN!" when meeting Kamakura

junko and mukuro had great scenes in the anime but that really just underscores that it should have been a slice of life comedy instead of having the absolute nuclear waste pile of a plot it had

Though IMO that pales in comparison to the explanation for how the main cast went all evil and crazy. What should have been an interesting character study in how ones preexisting character flaws can ultimately destroy you was instead turned onto “gently caress we’re out of episodes! OK, um... it was mind control.” Which is literally the worst way to explain that since it robs everyone of any agency or culpability for their subsequent actions.

End game spoilers: There were a not-small number of people who were very upset the characters in V3 were "fictional" and the whole space/meteor/virus story "wasn't real". It blew my mind people could somehow miss the point so much. I think I still liked 2 more overall just because I liked that cast a little more, but I really adored V3.

I get the complaint about the meteor and virus thing not being real, mainly because it set it up so much only to turn to the whole mind control fake memory thing, which... honestly isn't as interesting as what the whole Gofer project plotline was promising. Also I'm sorta disappointed that there wasn't a huge swelling Hope moment like in 1 and 2. I get that that's the point, but I'm such a sucker for it. Hajime going Super Saiyan Hope had me hootin' and hollerin'

I’m actually really happy that the end-of-the-world plot amounted to nothing. When you kill off the entire planet there’s really nowhere to go from there? And the successes/failures of the cast would be truly meaningles.

DR3 anime spoilers (don't know if it really needs to be spoiled at this point but oh well) I completely agree with you. All we knew going in was that at some point Junko entered into everyone's lives and essentially corrupted them to her way of thinking. She's shown to be relatively charismatic during the series (Ultra Despair Girls talks about this since she didn't brainwash the kids and she just talked them into it with Monaca also being nuts) so I just assumed that she somehow wormed her way into everyone's brain that way and turned them using their own insecurities (kind of like she did to Mikan, who I don't think actually got brainwashed? It's been a while so I can't remember.) But then nope, despair anime mind control is the answer to how history's greatest villain in-universe got herself an army of followers. Not through being good at being a leader, but because she brainwashed them to be her followers. Too bad.

Oh yeah, why did (V3 general spoilers) the Monokubs keep getting killed off? I feel like I glossed over some payoff to that whole plot thread.

I assume it was because whoever wrote their characters in-universe didn't want to have to make them in the first place, but somebody higher up said they had to be included. So the writer decided to have them Monodam kill them off so the writer wouldn't have to deal with them anymore.

I do like how just as Kaito's about to die, Monokuma decides to rub salt in the wound by bringing the kubs back.

I feel like I glossed over some payoff to that whole plot thread. the monokubs perform the shakespearean "play within a play" throughout the course of the game. they're not directly relevant to the plot but serve as a sort of meta-narrative. their revival for chapter six and near immediate second demise signifies the brief period during which you think you're in control of the situation, before tsumugi rips it away again E: as an aside, my favorite gameplay moment in the game is the first non-stop debate of chapter six, with all five monokubs spewing nonsensical white noise over every statement in the segment Venuz Patrol fucked around with this message at 07:14 on Nov 7, 2017 |

Monosuke gets the best delivered line in the game with Ooooh poo poo, he's already got the detonator! and I like him basically based entirely on that. And Monodam is just charming.

Monotaro is the best because he's doing his Ryoji voice. Persona 3 spoilers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WPEiOhlftA

monotaro is the best for the one pose where he forlornly throws a shuriken at the ground, but i like the trill in monosuke's japanese voice acting

End game spoilers: In hindsight, I'm kind of sad that we didn't have characters from the other 50 games show up during the ultimate display of ultimate cosplaying. Think it would have been great to just have a few "Wait who the hell was that?" moments.

Which means that aside from DR3's killing game all the rest of the games did use real people. Therefore, she can't cosplay from those killing games because the people involved were not fictional.

Mukuro does get a soldier pixel sprite in dungeon mode, but only if you get her ultra-rare card. it's more of a consolation prize than anything, but as a mukuro fan frankly i'll take whatever i can get
