I just got whatever model REI was selling at the time as a cheap return. She never really took a shine to it. Loves her little 3 wheeled ALLCAPS brand Amazon scooter though. Shes grease lightning on that thing.

We have a radio flyer balance bike. It was a gift and it’s fine. They’re all fine. Don’t forget the helmet.

I shelled out the big bucks for the Woom bike as a big 2 year old birthday gift. He mostly refused to ride it until about 6 months ago (1.5 years later) and now he’s almost too big for it and needs to upgrade to a pedal bike. He finally loves it though and is getting very good at balancing on it. I like how light it is for the numerous times he’s gotten tired/upset and I have to carry it back. The bell and brake also work great.

It's also the law, but whatevs I guess.

Our 6yo son came home from school upset today. We asked him what was wrong, and he said he got in trouble at recess for saying a bad word. After some gentle prodding, we find out that a girl in his class was spelling words for him to say out loud as a game. She spelled some other bad words (bitch and poo poo), but then spelled the n-word. Which my son promptly said out loud because he was playing the game and has no context for that word and has never heard it before. Then, the girl went and told a teacher on him for saying the n-word. Thankfully, the teacher understood what was going on, and he didn't get in big trouble. But we had to explain to him why that was a word that shouldn't be said, with a high-level of its history to give some context for why it's so bad. He felt awful that he said the word after our explanation, which we reassured him was not his fault because he had no idea. We think he'll be okay. gently caress other kids, though.

I recently saw somebody riding a big ol Japanese family bike with a kid in the seat behind the dad, and an infant in a front pack on the dad’s chest. Maybe the dad had a helmet? I think the older kid did. But that’s also something the police are having to crack down on more in the greater Tokyo blob.

Our almost-4-year-old opened the front door this morning and started cracking up because the walkway I raked yesterday was completely covered in new fallen leaves. "You did it yesterday, and now you have to do it today! You will never finish!" So she understands comedy. And in a few years, she will realize she was more correct than she could have possibly imagined, and that it applies to her, too. Then she will understand tragedy.

My teacher was unfortunately not so understanding which is probably why I still remember it 40 years later. Not going to teach my kiddo any slurs or bad words but he's getting close to that age and I hope he manages to avoid this sort of situation.

My 3.5 year old did this program through the rec center where the kids learn silly dinosaur themed dances and then perform it on a small stage. She's been really excited about it this whole time, until today where they are performing. She is laying on the stage while the other kids dance. I feel bad for her.

Pulling out the old kitchen sink and counters to replace them with new ones Both kids are home They are even less helpful than usual. Like broken sims. Their pathfinding is utterly broken, they will stand in a doorway until we, arms full of boards and rusty nails, ask them to move, then they'll walk backwards to the next doorway. They've had a hundred things to show us, each more mind-numbingly disinteresting than the last. No activity we initiate or suggest for them is as fun as tripping and falling near skilsaw blades and pry-bars

It's amazing how long it takes kids to catch on to the concept that you're not GOING someplace when you throw something out. You're literally going outside, putting something in a dumpster, and coming back in, over and over. But every time it's this voyage that you'll never return from, and they long to be there alongside you. So to sum up my previous posts and most of the ones I'll avoid making hereafter, make sure Nana is available to babysit if you're going to do DIY poo poo

My strategy with DIY stuff is to do anything that requires any sort of precision or has any hazard when they are at daycare but I’ve gotten my older son (who is 4) to help with stuff that isn’t too important or hard like putting together a bookcase or fixing a downspout extension so he can get his fix of learning how to use tools and being helpful.

We had daylight savings the weekend before Halloween and he was pretty happy to wake up an hour later for food. Lucky for us he sleeps in if its dull out, but we were worried he'd flip having to wait longer for food when a delay of about 10 minutes is enough to make him cry. He's recently been really taken with the mirror in the dining room. There's another boy in there he really likes to see and if he notices him from the other room he'll start shouting at him. It's so strange his whole tone changes and everything, just everything goes up an octave. He has to be brought in to see him then, it's adorable. He's nearly 9 months now so there's no way he recognises himself but he's met a few other babies recently and I think he's finally realised that he can be social with his reflection too.

Basically just an are you in the eastern half or western half of the time zone. Eastern people want DST, western people want standard. Moving from the far East of the eastern time zone to the far West of it was a weird experience. I hated the daylight pattern in the west.

split the time zones in half really all i want is for the sun to set after 5:30 Jan 15-Dec 15. It is super depressing to close your laptop at 5 and it's been dark for 20 minutes already, for 2+ months, and I don't even live at a particularly high latitude, like 38°N
