The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.

Not mine, but I'm hoping someone can just explain the physics behind this one:

Does the car somehow drive up the back tire of the SUV and the rotational force combines and flips the car while leaving the SUV relatively unharmed?

Bread Liar
That's pretty much what happens; the rubber of tire rear end in a top hat grips the rubber of tire Bystander and you end up with a very sudden lurch upwards, where both tires are rotating. When rubber meets rubber, that sort of thing results.

This is surprisingly common considering in dashcam videos considering how difficult it should actually be to pull off. Still, I have no idea how does this not happen several times per race in F1 and other open-wheel series.

I think modern crumple zones and such may be working against us on this one, with the minor overlap between the two vehicles on mostly non-structural areas. Add in the height difference between the vehicles and steering input turning the tire and it starts to make sense.

Totally agreed on open wheel, I am amazed when I see a pack of them running a coat of paint apart and somehow cars aren't just getting launched all over the place.

Are there any wide-view dashcams that have a low-latency HDMI out? I'm trying to explore my options for a digital rear-view mirror, as I'm driving a van with the rear view blocked.

Sort of like a backup cam but higher quality that I can have on all the time.

Similar. If anybody finds a good always-on rear view camera, I'd take their recommendation.

My G1W-C has HDMI out with pretty good quality. I plugged it into my computer monitor once just for shits and giggles and was actually surprised.

What you want to google is "wireless RV camera." I've heard good things about this system: http://www.hyndsightvision.com/

You can probably find wired options too.

I'm using amazons finest generic wireless backup cam/screen combo wired to ignition live in a van with the same issue. I've got it mounted where a normal rear-view mirror would be.

while quality isn't upto HDMI standards you don't really notice as you only ever glance at the screen while driving anyway. Its also quite nice wide-angle.

It isn't especially user-friendly at first, but Shotcut is a free/open source video editor that you could use to slap together a couple of clips without too much hassle.

Because crossing the double yellow and rear end in a top hat probably would have floored it to block you over there?

Sitting there for upwards of a minute is a good way to get killed though. I was expecting someone to jump out of the Suburban shooting, or at the very least for the camera car to get deliberately rear-ended at the red light.

I laughed when your car stalled mid honk.

It takes measures of common sense, forethought, and decency to not block an intersection which means there's bound to be some idiot trying to grandfather themselves into a green light whenever the situation presents itself.

I've had people honk at me for not blocking the box, and preventing them from doing so in turn.

So, read through the last few pages of this thread, and some stuff online. My wife just got t boned in an intersection (Yet she hit him somehow, guess she was driving sideways). We had a lovely dashcam but of course it got hot and fried. I've been waffling on these a bit, but I want to make sure I'm getting all the right stuff and some of the better stuff:

A119S
Polarizing film
Hardwire kit
SD Card

So the A119S is supposed to have the Sony CMOS sensor, which is supposed to be slightly better (Same price as the A119 so no reason not to). These seem to have issues with glare so I got the polarizing film with it. Then of course the hardwire kit to go directly into the fusebox and the 64GB SD card.

Any issues with these?

Thanks for that. It seems it's either that or the G1W, are there any other alternative cameras that are good? Price isn't a huge factor at this point, going to be using the money from the wreck to buy the new dash cam.

Heat resistance is big (so capacitors), and I would like good video quality.

Should I look outside of those two?
