The Midnight, my favorite jazz/retro wave/synth mix band, released a new album this week. It's god drat good. If you don't believe in the power of brass instruments, go to this timestamp

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7Qx7R655LI&t=531s

edit: I have been notified that a saxophone is actually a wood-wind instrument but it's made of brass so I don't care

I loved their remix of Scavenger Hunt's Never Enough so I'll give them a try.

This may be musical blasphemy, but Scandroid's cover of Thriller is making me think very hard about whether I still like the original the most.

Sure, it’s decent enough. Felt like it needed an over the top response though because drat, the original is overplayed but pretty unbeatable.

I'm really gravitating towards the lighter, more melodic side of things right now. Some tracks getting serious play right now are:

The Midnight - Light Years

The Midnight - Years (Prologue)

Timecop1983 - Wild Love

Michael Oakley - California

Sadly, they just aren't releasing new material fast enough for me. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any other artists that might fit that mold?

Some of the more light /melodic stuff I like, with or without vocals :
FM84, Robert Parker, Kristine, Sunglasses kid, Gunship, Beckett, Freeweights.

Definitely check out Robert Parker and Gunship if you had to pick 2

Seconding Fishdicks recommendations for Gunship and FM84. Gunship started their second album around May/June but then stopped posting updates about it ever since. Their social media accounts are very active, they just never mention the album since the 'we're working on it now!' type posts... Hopefully that comes out real soon...

I bounced off Kristine and Sunglasses Kid on my first listen - bit too pitch perfect recreation of the 80s. I'll give them a relisten in a day or so, see if that changes my opinion. If there's a particular track that stands out, don't hesitate to recommend it.

I got a real kick out of 'Midnight Signals' by Starcadian that someone recommended earlier. Some real gems there. Particularly New Cydonia. That's my bliss, right there.

Heard a bit of Odyssey by HOME earlier, and I'm gonna sit down and give that a solid listen, after I check out some Beckett and Freeweights.

From the comments of this Venger lyric video, I thought it was funny.

Not that I care if they are all devil worshipers, but I assume all the satanic imagery you see in art for CB, Gost etc is just mimicking the 80's moral panic about Ritual Satanic Abuse and how often it showed up in media from the era.

This is really good. Really... is authentic the word? It makes me think of the 80s or early 90s in a good way.

E: my mom wouldn't even let me play Dungeons and Dragons with my dad because of that moral panic stuff back then. Because my dad was, you know, soooo satanic. The vestiges of that stuff lingered in the south until the late 90s at least.

E the second: the south is still loving backwards.
