I did some reading, so I did some writing. Now I am sad as I am out of reading, so I must return to working. Or maybe I'll just think about video games. (Why is Star Control II so badass?) Thunderdome Week CIX Results Despite the relatively small turnout, this was actually a really strong week and I had a lot of fun reading everything! There were no truly awful entries and every story had an arc, which is pretty awesome. THE WINNER is sebmojo, who gave us a really well-crafted and evocative piece that really nailed Calvino's style and kept the judges intrigued all the way through. HONORABLE MENTIONS Go to Tyrannosaurus for giving us a great character-driven piece, an interesting setting, and effective prose, Kaishai for a really cool and emotionally resonant take on a well-trodden sci-fi trope, Sitting Here for a moving, microcosmic piece that effectively hit the authorial checkbox, and Amused Frog for a creative story that blended the grotesque and the lighthearted into something that stuck with the judges despite some minor pacing issues. Congratulations! THE LOSER this week is Skwid. We felt your story got a bit too bogged down in your stylistic choice and in the end the story itself was a bit too cliche. DISHONORABLE MENTION goes to Benny the Snake. While your writing has definitely improved, this story ended up feeling like part of a series rather than a story of its own, and there are enough structural issues that it couldn't hang in a week this strong. Thanks to everyone for participating this week, and I officially cede the floor to sebmojo for your next literary thrashing! Detailed crits will be in no later than tomorrow night.
