My Linux Rig posted:could have something to do with Ubuntu being trendy poo poo and fedora/red hat being actual distros that actual successful businesses use They do have commercial support contracts, and their website lists some big companies. However, I'm not sure if it's enough to pay all of the bills. I figure that a lot of businesses probably don't need to pay a 3rd party (or prefer to pay a cheaper 3rd party) in order to yell at someone if a thing breaks, so the overwhelming number of ubuntu enterprise users don't actually go for a contract. Then you have Red Hat, which (as far as I know) requires a support contract to get the enterprise software. If you don't want to pay it, then you go to CentOS and get essentially the same thing except without the Red Hat branding. So, we see a bit of a "same but not exactly same" sort of thing going on there. If Ubuntu required people to pay for official LTS packages, I bet we'd probably see a similar split. Of course, there are people that say ubuntu enterprise is an oxymoron but

how is the experience when updating between versions of fedora? because i can't believe that you still have to babysit ubuntu because suddenly in the middle of a multi-hour update process it will stop and wait for user input

Fedora's got a new upgrade system and it seems to be pretty good. You reboot into an upgrade mode in order to install the new version's packages.
