Let's Play Monopoly Episode 3 - Finale

Our game of Monopoly comes to an end, despite the game itself clearly trying to sabotage us.

Watching this makes me realize that I have never seen a "close" game of Monopoly. It always seems to come down to one player owning everything and slowly whittling the other players down. Everyone knows that there is no chance of a comeback, and if you are smart you just stop the game there. Fists fly past that point.

Also I know it's not official, but the game not having the Free Parking money pile irritates me.

It is not unspeakable. It cycles money that should be removed from the game board back into circulation, allowing for larger amounts of money being spent on houses and hotels, lengthening the game. If you are to play with that, you need to lower the amount of money gotten via GO in order to make the game balance correct.

It makes the game go on longer and is therefore morally reprehensible to even consider unless you hate your relatives.

You know, I'm a little surprised no enterprising doofus has rigged together some sort of remote teleplay device for a controller for just this very situation. In the age of the internet, it certainly comes up often enough, and given all the other insanely unreasonable robotics/telometric projects that people do, this seems almost sane and reasonable by comparison.

Latency would be a problem there.

Not as much so for turn-based and board games, which I think the game they're describing is, if it's what I vaguely recall. You'd have to have some sort of peer-to-peer videocall or something going to stream the television output as well, admittedly, since most of the video streaming hosts you'd be likely to use wouldn't offer acceptable delay.

E: And let's face it, in the present context horrible delay-based input errors wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. :v:

It's a moot point, of course, but it's still a funny idea.

Dokapon is literally run through menus, there's no realtime whatsoever. You could run Dokapon games through stream with maybe a few seconds delay for anyone who's not the streamer.

Well, there are plenty of remote desktop programs, although I doubt any of them support game controllers.

When I was in 6th grade one of my friends and I played 1-2 games of monopoly a day for almost a month with varying house rules just to see what was most fun and/or quickest.
We found, for a 2 player game,:
Having the $500 on free parking and double money for landing on go sped up the game getting to the critical point more often than prolonging the game. Because, we would routinely run out of money to even buy properties and have to spend 2 or 3 trips around the board just doing nothing.
Doubling the starting money also kicked the game into the interesting part of the game quicker. But it did also lead to a slow death if you just couldn't buy anything.
Just giving out 2-3 properties at random at the start of the game just made things weird. because there was never a good way to balance that.
Although, Letting the people buy up to 3 properties (risk country selection style) at 2x the sticker price had some interesting results.

Yeah, maybe for a two player game. I don't think Monopoly as a game is very good for two players, feels like it's really meant for four people, with two players the auction and trading mechanics are completely worthless.

Well, as long as there's someone enjoying it, I think it's worth it! Plus it is satisfying to know that, whatever cheap tactics I'm using, I eventually got past it. And that this gem of a game will have a completed LP.

If I remember my crazy military ideas correctly, they tried to train dolphins to attach mines to ships and then leave, not suicide-bomb. The WWII GermanRussian army, however, strapped explosives to dogs and trained them to run under tanks. Unfortunately they trained the dogs with GermanRussian tanks, so the first field test resulted in friendly fire and the idea was scrapped.

Edit: spouting facts before verifying may avoid sounding like I'm quoting Wikipedia, but it also leads to misinformation.
