The thread actually started off pretty strongly with solid games like Psycho Waluigi. Really you'll just have to browse through and see for yourself. I suggest starting from the top of the OP and going until your eyes bleed :getin:

A guy played sonic robo blast 2, which was okay, if suffering from a case of the only playtesters being people who play a ton.

Before and After The Sequel were both not nearly as bad as Epoch.

Still not quite up to "good" or even "worth the time it takes to download and play", but better than that.... thing.

Eggman Hates Furries is a Sonic fangame (LP'ed in the fangame thread, even!), that, while still terrible in many, many ways, has some quite fun and ridiculous sections to play, and is so utterly batshit that it's worth the hour(?) or so you might take getting through it.

I enjoyed it when I played just for the sheer absurdity of the whole thing, and it's reasonably fast-paced with lots of checkpoints if you'd like to try it yourself, but if you're not into the idea of playing a questionable Sonic fangame with bizarre, uncomfortable, self-aware humor, bad platforming, and frustrating bosses (which comprise 90% of the gameplay), just hop over to the fangames thread and give it a look. http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3595795

I did watch BtS and Eggman Hates Furries. They kind of made my brain hurt. I'll admit that Epoch is actually the worst I've seen, but I'm sure there are lower depths to sink to.

Ah, well, if you're actually looking for a good game, there are a few romhacks that are reasonable, but the overwhelming majority of independently-programmed Sonic fangames are unrelentingly bad, which is most of the entertainment appeal of LP'ing them. If you really disliked them that much, about all I can recommend for sure out of the fangames thread is Psycho Waluigi, which is actually a decent game using a hilarious non-character in a surprisingly good way.

Which could deform fetuses if you watched while pregnant. They Might Be Giants wrote a song about that. It confuses the hell out of me that a song about a deformed fetus was written for the Power Rangers movie for some reason, and it's ONLY available on its soundtrack despite not appearing in the movie (given none of the rangers were deformed fetuses).

I think it's mostly just that this thread doesn't generate much conversation in relation to the influx of videos. Like you guys could probably generate more discussion and not worry about people being hard on the casual approach if you just started your own threads. But that's just a thought on my part; still enjoying the videos either way.

I wonder how you spell Tabasco.
I like the idea of some of these videos getting their own thread. What qualifies things as 2007-worthy and not? Effort? I don't know how I'd 2007-ify my Pikmin LP, if that makes any sense.

One thing I do like about this thread is that I can hop into it and know that all of the videos will be of a certain carefree attitude. It's kind of hard to find LPs like that among all of the other threads in the Let's Play forum.

That said though, a lot of these LPs are pretty much good enough to warrant their own topic.

This thread was originally a response to the Blasting Zone, where people were writing essays about the state of LP. There was never any sort of guideline to 2007-ifying a video, it's just about having fun with LP. While there are a number of LPs here that could easily support their own thread, like Dead Space, I think there is a certain appeal about a thread like this. A lot of LPs by newcomers to the forums tend to get largely ignored by most people in favor of the "superstars"; in my mind it's better to post videos in a thread like this, than to start your own thread and be the only one posting in it.

Another angle is not having to worry about the "standards" of the "LP Community". Personally, I had been wanting to do Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth for a while before this thread came about, but never did because I thought there was no way my style of LPing could "do the game justice". If nothing else this thread allowed me to just say "gently caress it" and go ahead with it.

Moral of the story: Just have fun.

Pretty much this. I've considered making a thread for an LP before, but between my own technical ineptitude and worrying about ending up 'screaming into a void' as it were, I've stuck to megathreads.

I kind of wish the subforum were more open to the 2007-ish, more casual style in general, but that topic tends to turn into a 5 page cordon area.

The forum's are completely fine with casual? Some of you have this really weird conception that relaxed bullshit isn't allowed here unless it's in specified areas. You're completely free to do that, there's no rule against it and no one is going to jump on you about it. But if you feel more comfortable in the megathread then that's fine, but really don't get stuck in this thought process that people are going to dog pile on you for having fun.

You didn't really do anything bad, it's a justified question. I mean it seemed like for a while that the post to discussion ratio was a bit lopsided and I always enjoy seeing conversations in threads. But yeah, in the end it's cool if people are having fun and that's what matters.
