Wonder if I should send in my casino arcade story about being a teenager and playing Soul Caliber at an Indian casino and a girl flirted with me and my parents said it was some kind of scam.

Cael posted:How are the commentary tracks (Nemesis/Chud/Sith/Sucker Punch)? And is it supposed to sync up with the movie at all? I really want to listen to the Sucker Punch one but A) money and B) I definitely don't want to actually watch Sucker Punch. They are very much commenting on what's on screen without describing it, unless it's part of the joke. I'm not saying you can't listen without also watching the movie, it's just you'll not understand somethings they're talking about.

I could have sworn that the pilot who finds Han and Luke on Hoth was Wedge, but they're right: Zev Senesca. I'd watch a Dengar spinoff show.

Illinois Smith posted:I haven't seen Kids (or any other of the guy's poo poo) since I was a dumb teenager myself but they seem way too depressing to make fun of. There are only so many ways you can say "yup, this guy definitely likes to film naked teens". One the one hand, Kids gave the world Rosario Dawson. On the other, it means we live in the universe where Kids exists. Not only that, but the universe where Larry Clark wasn't immediately jailed after someone saw the movie.

Kids really didn't come off to me like it was in any way in favor of naked teens. It actually presents teen sexuality as completely loving horrifying and nihilistic. e: this is not to say that Kids is in any way shape or form worth watching, holy christ on a loving bike no. There's just basically no way they could actually do an episode on it, because there's nothing to laugh at. It's just senseless brutality. You might as well call in Cannibal Holocaust next listener request month. WeedlordGoku69 fucked around with this message at 08:52 on Apr 20, 2016 |

My take is, he's just not a very creative filmmaker and is trying to make the Kids lightning strike twice. Must be a depressing existence.

Illinois Smith posted:Nah, I think it's completely valid to make a movie where teens skate and do drugs and are naked a lot (because those are things that teens do), but if that's the movie you make over and over again with fresh batches of kids for 20 years it's probably also valid to say that you like to look at and film naked teenagers. My ex dragged me to that at a film fest; I didn't enjoy it but she said it's because my tastes were different and it didn't fit my aesthetic, which is fair. He's still influential on art and fashion, and an episode on him would probably turn into a 'sneer at hipsters' fest.

I listened to the Sithmentary without any visuals but I watched along with Sucker Punch as I had never seen it and I think that one especially needs the movie. Jupin's exasperated disbelief with the poo poo going on in that movie often isn't expressed in words.

Like Andrew's comments on how they'll never do Eraserhead because it's a great movie.

So after finally tracking down a copy of The Hand and watching it, it seems like WHM's link to the episode for it (#6) is down. Would anyone happen to have a back-up copy or mirror of it? Also, boo to the little blurbs getting removed from the Episodes page.

The Vosgian Beast posted:Also a fantastic movie. It's great, and tells a pretty straightforward story when you take a step back and can see the forrest for the trees. Except that the trees are made of rear end-biting severed heads, and severed fingers playing the piano that ate the owner of the fingers, and a bear making noodles and I don't even know what. Side note, is Blanche the Witch-Cat the best cat in film history? ![]()

I played Soul Caliber 2 in an arcade a ton. There was a handicapped kid, basically like Walter Jr, but with a slightly higher level of mental handicap, playing the game. I was playing, an the kept jumping into challenge me. I let him win, and then when he was finished I started playing again. Then he joined back in and fought me again. This happened several times, and I kept letting him win since I wanted to be nice. After about five rounds of this, I stopped playing to let him win, and turns out I couldn't actually beat him. He was fantastic at the game, and schooled me. Should I send that in? It's not arcade romance.
