Mister Kingdom posted:I've liked a couple of covers they've done, quote:but I don't believe I could sit through an entire concert. That's what I thought at first but after doing the east coast leg of their tour last year it's absolutely not true. The way they mix up their setlists is amazing, it's like the kind of poo poo the disco biscuits used to do. They do a ton of poo poo for the people on tour, teasing songs or not finishing songs, and busting them out the next night or over 3 nights. Shakedown street is really chill, people look out for each other and the cops were cool. And the band was out in the lot before every show and they'd literally eat/smoke anything fans gave them. The only thing I can compare the scene to is like Ween shows in the 90's. Maybe phish in the 80's or something but phish was huge by the time I saw them so I don't know. Can't wait for summer tour it's going to rage.

precision posted:Pomplamoose shows are full of people on LSD? Dude it was crazy. The girl singer smoked so much DMT in the lot before a show in Utica I think that she sang the first set sitting down. And only kinda sang. They were playing a back to back Born To Run first set and James Gang Greatest Hits second set but it was half way through Backstreets before I figured out what they were playing. First set was rough. But there were really only a couple of shows where the band was too hosed up to play. Crowd was always on 100% lube tho. Not really a drinking crowd cause most of the kids were underage. Lots of nitrous, pharmies and poo poo like deemsters though.

I think the best live show I've been to was Madness. The first time I saw them was in 2009 in Belfast, either on the last or penultimate date of their tour. The second time was in Dublin, which was the first date of their tour. The first one was better; they were good both times, but it obviously took them a while to get into the swing of things on the second one. They're tied with either of the times I went to see Jools Holland's Rhythm & Blues Orchestra. Those were pretty special shows. The worst show I've been to was, hands down, Meat Loaf in 2010. Dave Matthews Band is the one that had all the band geeks who played violin deciding they'd get into rock bands, right? Sort of like ska punk bands did with band geeks who played trombone a few years later?

So, David Byrne murdered her family and this is her revenge, right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGtOl6Fxzxk I can almost kind of get behind this, but the mix does it no favors.

This is the worst cover song because a good band covered a good song and the result is dry stale awfulness yet it shows up everywhere despite its thorough sub-mediocrity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxP2JrMw5hM

1) Take a bad song. 2) Overproduce THE gently caress out of it. 3) Add cutesy titles to your music video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9TWwXyd050

kalensc posted:This is the worst cover song because a good band covered a good song and the result is dry stale awfulness yet it shows up everywhere despite its thorough sub-mediocrity. Wayne Cochran (who wrote "Last Kiss" and subsequently became a blue-eyed soul singer in the 1960s with James Brown moves and a mile-high platinum blond pompadour) is now a minister in Florida, but he still sings. If you look it up on YouTube, you can see recent videos of him performing versions of all these songs he used to do when he was a soul singer in the 1960s, like "Hold On I'm Comin'" and "Harlem Shuffle", in his church, only with Christian lyrics. It's odd to see and hear. The former, for instance, is more or less the same, except he's calling it, "Hold On, Jesus Is Coming" and its opening lyrics are now, "If you ever feel sad, lean on Jesus when times are bad". It's a bit like that episode of South Park where Cartman forms a Christian rock band and all his songs are just pop songs that switch out the word "baby" for "Jesus".

No, liking lovely music is unfortunate but it doesn't indicate your value as a human one way or another. The fact that you touch yourself at night makes you a bad person.

I unironically really like this. I think that the slight off-tune bits are purposeful, adding a sense of unease to the psychedelic nature of the song. It's off kilter and has a good energy to it. Thanks for turning me on to this song.
