If NBC was only contributing $180,000 and episode, surely someone can put up the $2.5 million difference for mother season. Maybe Mark Cuban since he has a network.

Maybe Fuller will spill the details about what he'd planned for the future. I wonder if they'd have done anything differently this season if they'd known for certain ahead of time it would be the last.

Put Hannibal on El Rey and go even MORE surreal

|
|
It's not dead until you see the corpse, which we all should have learned by now.![]() ![]() ![]() And again, the Clarice rights issue wouldn't apply to next season because Bryan has been saying in all kinds of recent interviews that he has something else planned (that he'll barely even hint at on the record, which for him is astounding) and wouldn't need her or her analogue until 5. They've also said from the beginning that they wouldn't dump Will to focus only on her anyway, and I've never seen any indication that that's changed, so that's probably not a factor, either.

I'm surprised SyFy isn't jumping all over this, it seems like it'd be a relatively cheap way for them to get a critically acclaimed prestige show, and the ratings would do just fine for them.

One of their biggest hyped original shows in years is Helix, and that lasted 2 seasons before the money to make and air it and the viewers who regularly watched it didn't justify keeping it alive in their opinions. If you think this story is going to last 2 more years on any station, there is no happy ending in the cards for you. Like I said, just enjoy the rest of this ride. As Fuller's said repeatedly, it's longer than they've expected it to go for years.

I'm disappointed to see that it seems to be inevitably getting canceled, but to a certain degree I'm not sure how Brian Fuller's OC shmlarice shmlarling character would've gone. Also, is there any reason that Lifetime wouldn't pick this up since they already own the rights to the Silence plotline?

But my best guess is that it would follow book 3: Hannibal comes back to the States and lays low for a while. Hannibal ends up being caught handed over to Mason. He Hannibal's himself out of getting eaten by the pigs, and encourages Margot to finally face-gently caress her brother to death with his eel (though she also stimulated him with an electric prod after death to get a sperm sample to knock up her girlfriend for a heir). He tells Margot that he will take the blame for Mason's death, because what's one more death on his record gonna do. If Bloom is now Starling, she will be there. Maybe it will be Graham but I thought he had to go and catch Red Dragon later this season. Something will happen (Starling was shot with a tranquilizer) and Hannibal will rescue her. He then takes Bloom to his retreat and does his mind control thing. Someone is going to end up eating their own brains at dinner (Jack probably).

The europeans do LOVE this show too (it's airing on various pay cable/streaming services). It's a complicated multicorp backed show and NBC was just the USA partner.... buuuut having that USA partner is pretty important for viewership. This would be a massive win for SyFy, it could work on Fox but they'd have to air it late (to avoid complaints about the gay stuff!). HBO or Starz would be excellent homes: HBO would get one more critically acclaimed "niche" tv as art show, Starz would have a little more prestige to go with it's usual sex and gore fare. I'm not ready to write it off just because NBC has dropped out, it was an odd choice for NBC in the first place. I mean, the fannibals are rabid enough that they'd probably fund a kickstarter for a straight to DVD or hannibal.com livestreaming season 4 for the USA that would be partially funded by the Euro channels/AXN airing it.

I think some people are conflating "I'm surprised <channel> hasn't picked it up" with "<Channel> will definitely pick them up and save them they have to it totally makes sense the show's not dead!" I'm just surprised that we haven't heard about interest from some of the more niche channels given the show's critical acclaim and low price tag. That doesn't mean I'm not fully aware that the show is dead in the water and will need an out-of-the-blue miracle to get picked up.

Those elements of the show are attractive, but abysmal viewership, dealing with the fallout of all the shocking imagery, and the current season being mostly a Nine Inch Nails video in slow motion and half in reverse with the sound of raindrops playing behind it makes it a tough sell. (not to mention that the next logical chapter in the show can't even be incorporated into the show either) Oh yeah and the showrunner is committed to another series and the principal actors all need to be re-signed. Is it that surprising? InfiniteZero fucked around with this message at 21:21 on Jul 7, 2015 |

The low price tag isn't the whole story. NBC wasn't contributing a lot financially themselves, but being on American network TV was conditional to other funding they received I believe. Without being on NBC those other arrangements are also jeopardized. Or at least I recall reading something to that effect.

HBO would never, ever, in a million years, pick up a failed network drama. Only very recently have they even started airing a few more shows that don't come from HBO Studios. And as has been established, Netflix was always a long shot. The Amazon streaming deal meant that either Netflix wouldn't have the first three seasons or they would have to make an expensive arrangement with Amazon. I do wonder why Amazon passed. My guess is 1. it doesn't actually do that well on their service 2. the American Gods thing wrecked it 3. they were perturbed by the Silence of the Lambs rights issue. Hulu is probably the best chance now, unless Yahoo's Folly continues unabated. I bet we hear nothing for a year, then rumblings, then get a short season on a streaming service in like 2018. Because nothing ever dies anymore.

How many times must we go over this? Bryan Fuller stated several times that each season ends in such a way that if the series is not continued at least it had a strong ending. It still sets things up for future seasons but it is made to conclude should that not happen. This is like the fifth time this has been brought up. They already shot the season, it's over, if it continues fine, but if not we will have a wrap up of sorts.
