I'm confused, there's just two more episodes of this season, correct? And there isn't a season 4 yet? Will The Hobbit Dwarf King Serial Killer come in for the last two episodes or are we at like a half-way point for season 3 and there's a fair bit more or something? Seems weird that he would just be there for 1 episode.

Are we not getting 13 like always?

I went on tv.com after watching the latest episode and they usually have all the episodes of a ongoing season with either placeholder names or actual episode names. And there we're just two more listed, that's why i assumed there would be just two more.

My hunch, given the way the plots are getting jumbled from the books, is thus:

We're going to get a Red Dragon arc that plays like Silence of the Lambs. We'll have all the stuff with Dolarhyde instead of Gumb, and we'll eventually have Hannibal escaping, as he does in Silence. The season will end with the ending of the book Hannibal, (spoilered for book stuff) but with Will swapped in for Clarice -- that is, Hannibal will escape and Will joins him.

This might be a little too tidy, but Fuller has gone on record saying that if there is a "next" season it would be about Hannibal and Will's relationship, and well, if they're on the run together, yeah, of course it would be. And of course, that ending is the part that feels like most of a hazarded guess/bullshit even to me, but I really think doing Red Dragon in the style of Silence is precisely the sort of trick Fuller would be all over.

This is possible but especially considering the latest trailer, it seems like derailing Will's character development if he runs away with Hannibal at the end. It's not impossible considering how tied up they are in each other but I'm just not sure.

I SHOULD KEEP MY DUMB MOUTH SHUT INSTEAD OF SPEWING HORSESHIT ABOUT THE ORBITAL MECHANICS OF THE JAMES WEBB SPACE TELESCOPE.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT A LAGRANGE POINT IS?
This is how I understood the episode when I watched it. I might be wrong, but it all made sense at the time:

Bedelia didn't start taking the drugs until this episode. It was all preplanned (by both her and Hannibal) that she would start taking the drugs if the police came after Hannibal, in order to give plausible deniability to her knowing/participating in Hannibal's crimes.

It also seemed to me that Chiyo was trying to capture Hannibal alive for the bounty. When she set up the sniper rifle, her intention was to wound Hannibal enough to incapacitate but not kill him. She ended up having to alter that plan when she saw the knife in Will's hand; that's when she moved the reticule from Hannibal to Will. She had to shoot Will because she couldn't collect the bounty if Will killed Hannibal. With the element of surprise gone, she panicked and fled.

She then tracked down Hannibal to that building and went in intending to capture him (she was quite obviously carrying a gun case). In the elevator, she noticed the butt of the gun in Jack's pocket and between that and the fact that he was giving her an extremely suspicious look caused her to announce that she had gotten off on the wrong floor and leave. She then waited one flight down for awhile and then came back up to get Hannibal and interrupted him in the middle of cutting Will's skull open. Why she would also have given up Will and what the gently caress she did with Jack, I have no idea.

I could be wrong, but that's how I interpreted the episode.

Though it doesn't provide an answer for where Jack is, I'd imagine the reason he isn't hanging with Will and Hannibal is that Jack had nothing to do with the events that led to Mason's disfigurement, so Mason has no reason to get revenge on him or involve him at all.

Amazon wanted to put it into production too early so Fuller said no. It's like the most frustrating decision ever but I get it. He has another show and all that.

I think most of your post is correct but I'm not so sure about this. I think that like Will she's caught up enough in Hannibal's mind games that she genuinely wants him to live out of concern towards him, not that she's motivated by money.

I don't think she had anything to do with handing them over to Mason at all, that's all on the corrupt cops. Chiyo isn't an idiot, she'd probably realize that Mason wants to kill Hannibal and that's not the endgame she wants for him in the first place.

Me crush ass to dust

What's even left after the Red Dragon stuff anyway. Buffalo Bill is pretty weaksauce compared to Mason Verger and Francis Dolarhyde. They've already gone through all the Silence of the Lambs homages already and I have no interest in seeing young Hannibal killing nazis with a samurai sword.

I have to say that I really really respect Hannibal as a show for this reason. I can't think of ANY police procedural type show that doesn't include horrific cases of rape as part of their normal "look at the horrible crimes committed by this week's bad guy!!" MO. The only overtly sexual content of this show is between consenting adults. It's horrifically gory otherwise, but the lack of rape and sexual violence is so refreshing.

If he doesn't trust himself to tell a story about sexual violence, I'll take his word for it.

He certainly doesn't need more ways to make his characters outrageously evil, because nothing could ever top Mason literally harvesting the tears of small children.

It's not the best pacing but I mean there's plenty of setup for the viewer to fill in the blanks. Margot convinces Mason to buy out the investigating police force and Bedelia gives up Hannibal's location to the person interrogating her.

Still they could've had 15 seconds of a police task force team swarming in in slow motion as Hannibal is cutting. Just do a quick cut to Jack as cops come running in behind him.

Also where the hell did Japanese Sniper go while Jack was in there? Did she just up and leave the area completely, why did she even ride the elevator with Jack?

It strikes me that Chiyoh and Jack want the same thing: Will out of Hannibal's life, and Hannibal in captivity. If only they knew and trusted eachother. She'd probably even want Hannibal in Chilton's hospital, where he'd be most humiliated.

I love that the episode titles reveal they're using both paintings in the show. Michael Mann mistranslated when he wrote his script and used the more evocative drawing for Manhunter, but it wasn't the one Harris mentioned in the novel. I hope they use the best parts of both movies. Red Dragon's not a good movie, but it definitely has its moments. Just as long as we get the "you're so sly..." guy I'll be content.

The Handsome and Talented Doctor Hannibal Lecter always wins.

They better nail Red Dragon, because I'm sick of "Hannibal gets away with everything" and Will just being his punching bag along for the ride. They can shoot the scenes well and make the art pretty, but if I don't get some sort of catharsis outside of Hannibal's visit to Suplex City, I'm not gonna care a whole lot about the rest of the season.
