Photography development is an exact science, if she's got a braille label machine then she knows each of her instruments, each chemical and which client and film type they are for. Speaking from experience with friends and myself, disabled people learn from an early age to be really creative (sometimes in crazy or very stubborn ways) to keep as much independance as possible. Not getting a pity vibe is a big deal. Reba probably thinks of Dolarhyde as "getting it" which gives them a sort of crip kinship. Shame she couldn't sense he wanted to bite her fingers and that he thinks he's an apocalyptic spiritual beast made manifest but then who could except Will.

My research involves blind people. They've done it really well with Reba so far particularly her instructions to Dolarhyde when he enters her lab. The way blind people interact and internally describe the world is very separate to us and is super cool to read about.

I know someone who is only partially blind (like in the sense they can only read a computer screen if they read it very close) it may not be the same but the way she was looking around at seemed a little exaggerated from my experience.

I think the stare Reba is giving is closer to a blind stare. most actors playing blind people seem to just have a blank stare. I've never seen my mother-in-law use a toothpick to cut a pie. as far as measuring goes, my MIL is an amazing cook and can follow recipes to a T. she doesn't depend on gadgets but she does have talking scales and a talking barcode scanner that will tell her what is in the box or bottle. she reads braille too. then there's all the little sticker bumps she sticks on the oven dials, microwave buttons and coffee maker so she knows how to start/stop things.

It varies from person to person I guess. When I'm speaking to someone they tend to look at me but I think that is because they are trying to make me feel more at ease. I didn't notice that Reba was looking around overly much so I'd assume she fits into what I'd find standard. Her parts talking about not wanting to be pitied are very interesting too. People can often unconsciously treat the blind like they're stupid or made of glass just because they can't see. Rather shamefully for example before I first met a blind person I asked my supervisor how to shake a blind person's hand as they wouldn't be able to tell I was holding mine out. He just laughed and told me they could hold out their hand for me to shake. Tiny stuff like that can just never click until you think about it, or perhaps I am a monster.

I started googling blind gadgets and it's pretty cool stuff. Talking thermometers, talking scales, little liquid sensors you hang on the rim of your cup so that when it gets close to the top the sensor makes a beep (I assume this is for hot liquids, because otherwise a blind person can just hand their fingertip off the edge and feel when the liquid gets close to the top) Also, you guys might've seen Netflix rolled out audio description audio channels for the blind. They're legitimately good and the fights feel like listening to a radio boxing match: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uybTJ7kUdb4 I thought this was a recent thing, but apparently my friend's sister is blind and she's been going out to theaters to watch Audio Description movies for years. Even the original Star Wars had audio description (although they made new improved ones for the blurays... I guess you can't have the narrator saying that Han shot first) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCZqKxQME6o Steve Yun fucked around with this message at 18:03 on Aug 6, 2015 |

Obligatory Daredevil recommendation. The series features a blind protagonist and the show utilizes a lot of blind tech. The actor went to a lot of lengths to get the body language correct too if you pay attention. (The show tries not to make a big deal out of it - dude has been blind since he was 9 and has adapted well.)

I clicked through on one of those Daredevil videos and was legitimately shocked to discover Charlie Cox was English, just because of his performance in Boardwalk Empire. As someone from Belfast, and knowing how impossible a Northern Irish accent can be to portray, I always thought he was one of us. As for Red Dragon chat, I'm interested as to how they'll finish this season. I recently read the Red Dragon book and I've watched both movies in the last couple of weeks and I actually think the Red Dragon movie had the best conclusion of all of them. As indifferently directed as it was, the idea of Will using Francis' childhood trauma against him to protect his own adopted son is much more interesting than the ending of either the book or Manhunter. I'm also curious about how they'll the adapt the big eureka moment, given how in the books it was dependant on the use of technology that doesn't exist at all any more.

I can't find the quote, but somebody a long time ago posted something along the lines of "one day Hannibal will be outed as a murderer, and then somebody at the FBI is going to slap their forehead because suddenly they will get all the cannibalism puns" edit: from season 1 thread Brock Samson posted:Amazon has announced that Amazon Prime has acquired exclusive streaming rights to Hannibal. No, it was several pictures of Winston watching Will get driven away in the police car, and he's saying poo poo like "How did you not know, his name even rhymes with cannibal you idiot" "Goodbye Will, I won't cry for you, Hannibal's going to lead our pack now and feed us sausages" It was white lettering (might've been the same guy)

Canada was sleeping on Hannibal I guess I don't want to know what kinds of horrors Hannibal still would have hidden in his house/office That is QUITE the great red charizard Bedelia!! Barnette? Denise. This is a guy calling who doesn't sound like the Lithuanian people eater downstairs at all. My name? Labinnah of course! Sylar! I mean Spock! If I had a psychiatrist who was as condescending as Bedelia I might try to choke him/her out too (and eat their brain) JFC Bedelia. She is straight nuts too. I dont think you can throat fist someone quite that far... from what the internet has taught me? I gotta get a show definition of sanity, because it is just beyond me. mobby_6kl posted:The scene was quite nice overall but agreed. At first I thought it actually was and that was his plan, but nope. It wouldn't work in real life because fists are a lot wider than a balloon animal or esophagus. Not that it matters, the question isn't whether it's realistic, the question is what does it mean. Bedelia throatfucks a guy to death and we get very graphic images of her fist going down a fleshy tunnel. Once the act is done, she rolls over and collapses next to him like two lovers after climax. There's been a lot of imagery tying violence and sex together this season, but I'm not sure what point they're trying to make. Like, there's that moment when Hannibal feeds Sogliato's lungs and liver to Mr and Mrs Albizzi, their eyes turn blurry and they moan as if they're reaching orgasm. Is violence like sex? Is murder like rape? I'm scratching my head. ***** EmmyOk posted:e2: Did she suck D's D? I wonder if it's controversial for me to say that I thought the series could have ended at the end of season 2 and I would've been happy. At the time lots of us were saying that the end of season 2 would have been a perfect ending to the whole show. I think in a decade or so Hannibal might be better regarded if it had ended there.
