Steve Yun posted:I'm not clear on this part of the show. Did Hannnibal hypnotize the patient to swallow his own throat That's how I read it. Use the guys paranoia/mistrust of psychiatrists and make it a trigger for him to start 'clamming up'. Then send him to Bedelia because apparently she is terrible and will definitely trigger him. There certainly seems to be a link between 'doesn't like talking to psychiatrists' 'wont take oral meds' and 'gently caress it, subconscious says nothing gets in or out of this throat'.

Steve Yun posted:It wouldn't work in real life because fists are a lot wider than a balloon animal or esophagus. Not that it matters, the question isn't whether it's realistic, the question is what does it mean. "Will this disturb and unsettle the audience?" "Pretty sure it will Bryan." "Do it." On the other hand, there is le petite mort. Sex and death have always had a poetic connection. And killing in this show has always been portrayed as immensely pleasurable and a life-need like sex and food. It doesn't have to be succulent but by God life is amazig when it is.

My favorite variant of that is the one someone posted of using randomized wikipedia entries, a la: "Criticism of Coca-Cola has arisen from various groups, concerning a variety of issues, including health effects, environmental issues, and business practices. The Coca-Cola Company, its subsidiaries and products have been subject to sustained criticism by both consumer groups, leftist activists and watchdogs, particularly since the early 2000s. Tell me, Will...what criticism has arisen against you? Is our most sustained criticism, perhaps, from our own selves?"

It's almost like when researchers decided to have the chatbots Eliza (modeled somewhat after a psychiatrist) and Parry (a paranoid schizophrenic) and let them converse with no interaction. Hell swapping out the names and you have a scene. quote:
Plus the amusing re-do's of scenes in an updated context smacks of sly winks, like Hannibal tapping the phone "just slide that cursor down to G". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuD9_Axxp1o BogDew fucked around with this message at 06:39 on Aug 8, 2015 |

Rutina Westley is still built from her character's story arc in True Blood where she felt so used and abused by everyone (with good reason) and considering suicide, she ran away from her hometown and taught herself to be a MMA cage fighter. It was a good way of her reclaiming her self esteem and feeling less powerless in a world full of magicals. Shame that the show liked to screw her over at every occasion so that didn't last. editing to unspoil: If Dolarhyde wasn't batshit insane, I'd be all over that. Seriously, his idea of a first date is take her to meet and touch and hug a frickin tiger!!! Then he's cool with her preparing drinks in his house, no big deal, you're blind but I trust you. Upper body like a greek god. Him carrying her to the bedroom was so sexy yet scary. This show sure knows how to make you have contradictory thoughts: This is hot, isn't he lovely being all in love, seeing her as the woman clothed in the sun like a goddess // HEY this is not hot at all, argh he's a creep, run Reba run! He's a biter! He will probably have to kill you now (his woman clothed in sun) to complete his becoming. His reaction when she touches the tiger's teeth was magnificent: fear, lust, some sort of transcendant "I'm the tiger" thing, complete and utter fascination. I half expected him to start yowling. The person who said this was the episode of D creaming himself was SO on point: Reba touching tiger teeth, Reba touching his lips and just kissing them no revulsion whatsoever, when she touches his thighs, seeing the painting, smelling the painting, eating the painting. So many O faces, so very few of them not utterly creeptastic. I liked that they showed that Will is physically no match for Dolarhyde. The movies were less on the nose about the fact that he's strong enough to throw a man across the room and the two Wills looked less weedy compared to the two Ds. So we got to Red Dragon from a tree carving of a chinese symbol meaning to hit the mark or to attain.... it also just happens to be on a mahjong tile that's incorrectly called "red dragon" in english which could mean all sorts of things in chinese culture: he could have been born in 1976 which was a fire dragon zodiac year, he could believe he's the solar deity torch dragon, he could be a marksman because the symbol means to hit your target or win and the so-called dragon tiles are archery tiles in the original chinese, but Will goes with the tenous at best Red Dragon connection due to the beastly nature of the crimes... and Hannibal goes straight to the William Blake painting which is a pretty *massive* clue right there. Will and Jack better be right back asking Lecter how he came to that amazingly precise conclusion because holy leaps of logic! At first he deflects to the chinese symbol then boom Great red Drrraaguhn. If they'd passed via William Blake's apocalyptic vision being currently on display in Bmore then I might have bought it. Finding a Chinese symbol that could mean heart or hit the target would have normal cops looking at completly different leads. Hannibal totally did the phototherapy mindfuck he did with Miriam and Will on Bedelia's patient : choke on your tongue when you feel trapped. Hannibal sniffed out that Du Maurier had that 'crush the weak' primal instinct, I wonder if he'd sent other patients before that one and her training overrode the instinct. Maybe he knew that something about that patient would totally set her off. She seems to have accepted her inhumane self quite nicely, probably Hannibals teaching at work there. Will must be wondering about the ratio of psychopaths amongst psychiatrists after Hannibal, Chilton and now Du Maurier.I really hope that the Bedelia conversation means that we'll get a scene where Will gets to talk with D about his childhood and use his remaining empathy but it has definitely opened the door to Will stone cold "crushing" D instead of empathising with him and giving us a "Will is now a cold blooded killer and isn't Hannibal proud of his becoming!" downer ending. After season 2, I can completely believe Fuller is going to rip our hearts out (in such a sublime way we'll almost want to thank him for the pain of course) Adding that it's medically impossible to fist someone that far down their throat, there are vocal chords and other things in the way and the oesophagus and bronches are way too thin. If you can choke on a penny then there's no way a woman's fist however small is going down there. I think she imagined what happened in a way more vivid way than what actually occurred, possibly Hannibal induced that imagery there by making her remember the events differently. I bring gifs: Vhoom vhoom ![]() Stag

Is this season just going to end with Hannibal flat out winning again? Some people mentioned getting tired of it and I think I'm in that camp. There has almost never been a moment in the show where it wasn't "Hannibal knows all, everything that is happening is happening because Hannibal wants it that way, you can't catch Hannibal." Even his imprisonment still feels like he's winning - he wanted it, after all. Will had him legitimately fooled for about... 3 episodes in season 2? If S3 ends with Hannibal busting out and Will's new family getting brutally murdered or something along those lines... I mean, what makes the show's plot compelling in that case? I really do love it, but after the Italy arc and Hannibal really not taking much more than a Jack beatdown and a Verger branding, I'm beginning to get a bit lukewarm. Anyone else feeling that? Still am enthralled by the cinematography / performances / direction.

Yeah, but she's remarkably good at concealing the specific brand of crazy that's in her. Compared to her Hannibal is like an open book- he reveals plenty about what he thinks about the world, the people in it, God, etc.

I love that in the episode with the psychotic bodybuilder who thinks he's the GREAT RED DRAGON and literally ate a painting, he still had a run for his money in the crazy stakes with Bedelia.
