showbiz_liz posted:I really would have enjoyed some sort of small role for Michael C. Hall on this show, just playing a totally normal dude who is in no way a serial killer. He might have made a funny Franklin (though Steve Yun's suggestion is better) and hey I just realized where I'd seen Franklin's actor before. That has been driving me crazy since I first saw those episodes.

The AV Club did an article comparing the original Red Dragon novel, Manhunter and Ratner's red Dragon, with a bit of the tv show thrown in: Tracking Hannibal Lecter, from Manhunter to Red Dragon. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I'm not a lover of Manhunter. I don't think it's a bad movie, but Dolarhyde wasn't done very well in it and I find him infinitely more interesting than Hannibal. It's also painfully 80s, so much so that it's dated to me. Brian Cox does a good Hannibal, though.

I had a lot of problems with Red Dragon (2002?) as well but Lord Voldemort was a way better Dolarhyde. But the series' Dolarhyde is by far the best yet. Bonus points for him being naked in pretty much all the episodes.

It was inevitable that, like the novel, a t.v. show would have more time to fully flesh-out Dollarhyde's character than a two hour film. Red Dragon did a better job at it than Manhunter, but in focusing more on Dollarhyde it made it tougher for Ed Norton's Will Graham to make an impression. Manhunter focuses so little on Dollarhyde that he becomes more mysterious than in the other adaptations, and the audience feels more like they are in Graham's shoes investigating the crimes. I like them all though, and I really enjoy that there are so many different versions of Lecter out there. It feels appropriate that he should be some sort of Dracula/Lucifer figure that can take on many forms in our "mythology".

The thing I like about Manhunter, that the article did not, was that I liked Noonan's Dolarhyde a lot. He comes off as creepy, but sometimes for movie like that, less is more. It's why I love Silence, but really feel Hopkin's Lecter is played out in Red Dragon.

I like book Red Dragon the best, though this adaptation is pretty good. Just wish they had that bit in about having night vision film and crawling into bed between a couple, ergh. After the last episode I have really enjoyed the whole arc a lot better, especially how savage and bloody the revealing scene was compared to everything else we've seen in the show. Even Mecha-Bear was relatively clean compared to having Chilton having his lips bitten off and then his whole body set on fire. Which also just reminded me how horrifying the sound was in the burn scene in the first season. I've also enjoyed the projection of characters to a sort of fantasy version. Lecter is a black guy with horns, Dolarhyde is a muscle dragon man and Will is a feathered stag? Maybe Clarice can be a sheep with Jodie Foster's face. Also; n3wt posted:You don't often see burn victims on TV without them being all bandaged up but burn wards are sterile environmments where the patients are often partially submerged in baths or wear silicone sheets or cadaver skin over their exposed skin while waiting for regrowth or a graft. They dress burn victims up in the skin off corpses? Sounds like if there was another Chilton wouldn't have been any better off.

People used to say Spartacus was more gory. Is that still true? edit: as far as I know, Hannibal is the goriest thing on network TV in history, which is something insane when it consistently shows up in top 10 lists of goriest tv shows next to 9 other cable shows Steve Yun fucked around with this message at 16:18 on Aug 26, 2015 |

Spartacus had a lot of fake blood flying everywhere, most of it was pretty nondescript. Hannibal has a lot of body mutilation that you don't see much on TV. It looks very real too which is a feat to behold.

The Following isn't as gory but the level of violence was pretty much unmatched for network TV. I swear at least 3 people get knifed every episode and it's usually Kevin Bacon doing the stabbing.

![]() My friend got me the artbook signed by Martha DeLaurentis, Hugh Dancy, Bryan Fuller and Richard Armitage, all she wanted in return was a replacement copy of the book. I'm not watching any of the preview videos, but I do want to say that Sepinwall told people they need to watch through the credits of the finale. Which makes sense - that happened at the end of S2 as well - but figured it's worth reminding people.

Is there any way to find out if you're in one of the areas where it'll be pre-empted by football? That's already happened once or twice here and goddamnit NBC, I just want to watch the series finale ( ) of Hannibal this weekend. Why is that so much to ask?

Filez after tomorrow. It still airs on Thursday in Canada. I don't normally approve of piracy but let's face it, it's a cancelled show that airs on free tv.

If they didn't want people rampantly pirating it, they could have always not moved it three days later and then preempted it in several markets.

Really says a lot that they can't even be bothered to consistently air the finale of a critically acclaimed show that could actually win the network a boatload of awards and nice revenue from dvd sales/reruns. Someone at the top at NBC is a hater - probably annoyed by too much "gay", art in general or having to use their brain. edit to add actual relavant information HANNIBAL FINALE PREEMPTIONS! https://www.facebook.com/DeLaurentiisCo/posts/588709434600144 n3wt fucked around with this message at 17:31 on Aug 27, 2015 |

I know, I know but I love it when a network sticks to their guns and airs a show for the prestige not the ratings. Same with movies getting financed: someone with the purse strings takes a leap of faith and it might take ten years to become a cult movie but it's so worth it.
