Let's talk about tactics.
I can't be the only one starting to get annoyed by the pace of the show. Right? The questions just keep stacking up and I don't see them being answered in 1 episode. The show should take a hint from whiterose and start using its time a bit more efficiently.

drat, I'm surprised at the low amount of discussion that goes on here for this show. I've taken to reading through comments on the AV Club reviews of each episode.

I'm going to have to watch this again next week before the actual last episode because it felt like a Halo 2 level of cliffhanger there. gently caress.

The AV Club review was giving off a lot of opinions about how the timeline of this show might be weird now, or there might be some sci fi or metaphysical stuff about to be revealed. Technically this is the first half of the finale, going by the episode title. For whatever reason USA decided to split this one over two weeks instead of running it all at once like they did with the premiere.

I'm not worried about the supernatural/time travel stuff, assuming they do it in a low-key way and not a Back to the Future type thing. One thing I really like about this season is how they gradually show the world turning into a dystopian cyberpunk future, to the point where introducing sci-fi poo poo feels way more believable now than it would have during season one.

IN DEBUT, I SPEW!!!
My thought has been that white rose came up with the idea of mini nuclear plants to secretly put in local power plants around the country. The one in washington township malfunctioned briefly, causing radioactive contamination and the death of elliot and angela's parents. The brownouts now are happening because the problems at ecorp are interfering with the mini nuke plants, causing a power shortage.

Pickle: Inspected.

I'm so surprised nobody here is mentioning the obvious Lolita callout (after having it be Darlene's thing previously) and the Blade Runner poo poo left and right. Don't you see?

Angela, Darlene, and Elliot are replicants. Whiterose gave Angela a Voight-Kampff test. They already know Darlene and Elliot are replicants but had dismissed Angela at some point in time but are now finally figuring out she's also one. The reason she always pauses and stares is because her neural net is busy figuring out the best way to get out of whatever situation she's in with the correct words and actions. Notice how she never paused and stared before blurting out in that ECorp meeting how much she wanted access to the files for the chem plant? She didn't access her smarts. She's actually halfway between Darlene and Elliot on the scale of how well they can act human. You'll notice that Elliot pauses all the loving time but that's OK because we already treat him like a non-human due to his mental issues. Darlene is always on track with everything, no pause, and becoming more human over time. The one time she dehumanizes (and faces to bloodshed) was last episode and Cisco shakes her out of it and she becomes more human as they have a nice chat at the diner. Also, holy gently caress, this is the one time "dehumanize yourself and face to bloodshed" could actually mean something and not be a meme joke. I hate myself for even coming to this conclusion.

Anyway, real talk, why is nobody here talking about whiterose's implication that Angela is special? And that she and Elliot are both special because of the chem plant and their parents died for a greater good? And that Angela now knows about some power she has? This is crazy poo poo that I do not like. I don't want this show to be a Syfy show now. Going science fiction devalues the realism of the first season immensely. That said, it's a better turn of events to make this show interesting after dragging the plot harder than a plow in a field. I'm now entranced by this show but have no idea if it's for the better or for the worse. I really hope the finale does not disappoint, otherwise this is like (despite amazing ALF scene, fantastic final-half of last episode, and Elliot high on drugs) True Detective Season 2 poo poo right here in terms of quality dip.

One last thing. The one thing I want to not happen more than anything else is for this to turn into a time travel show. However, it would make complete sense as to why whiterose cares so much about time. She never wants to be in the same place twice.

I refuse to believe that season 2 is about a time machine or the Manchurian Candidate or whatever theorycrafting has come up. You know what power exists in the real, mundane world, that we've seen multiple characters exert, that lets people turn their imaginations into reality? Money.

Whiterose, Price, Tyrell, Joanna, Elliot, they're all in this for the same thing. Power/money are synonymous. I think it's way more likely that the twist is "Elliot has already sold out" than "Whiterose is building a time machine." Just as Back to the Future 2 is about a time machine, it's also about somebody abusing preternatural power and inside knowledge for personal gain in a way that the other two films aren't. Elliot's not Marty or Doc Brown, he's Biff.

This was the preview for last night's episode:

quote:

Angela makes an acquaintance; Darlene realizes she is in too deep; an old friend reveals everything to Elliot.

Given we didn't see Darlene at all, I'm wondering if the episode was re-edited after USA changed their mind about airing the finale as one 2-hour episode.

Either way, as much as I love this show it's starting to get really tiring going episodes at a time without getting any answers. I really hope it sticks the landing next week.

My :tinfoil: theory that wouldn't involve too much SF elements about what's going to happen next is that Phase 2 is an AI designed to destroy the existing power structures (governments, E Corp, etc) by manipulating data through financial networks and the internet.

My less :tinfoil: theory is that Mr Robot predicted the whole E Coin thing and that Phase 2 is going to seize the entire infrastructure behind it, secretly, so that the DA and fsociety can use it to bring E Corp down for good. Of course, there really isn't an fsociety left at this point, so it'd just be Mr Robot and Elliot continuing their ultimate revenge plan.
