I think you have to have something to pace the pitching. I mean, hell, you have kids and fans out there. You don't want someone to get bonked on the head because they're watching the last one land, or one of the outfielders taking a line drive to the incisors because they're doing the same.

I'm not sure what they could use as a pace setter, though, other than waiting for the ball to land. It rewards line drive hitters and punishes fly ball hitters, but what can you do?

The cameras are having enough difficulty tracking the baseball as it is. Getting rid of the "wait til the ball lands" rule would mean missing like 50% of the homers.

I'm not really big on the bonus time thing, since literally everyone gets it, so it's not really earned.

But this year's format is way better than previous years.

The camera tracks the ball to closely as it is. Id prefer if they had a broader stationary camera view so you could see the ball off the bat and into the stands.

I'd imagine this is why they have the rule, just for stuff that doesn't go out. You don't want a bunch of kids staring at a moon shot while a line drive is screaming at them.

You could just get rid of the kids I guess and collect the balls later.
