It didn't pack in the belly laughs, but I thought that was a really sweet and well-done episode.

I liked it. Gene episodes are always kind of weird unless there's a big dramatic musical number, and the B-Plots were kind of underwhelming but I still enjoyed it.Mr. Unlucky posted:this show doesn't really do it for me anymore, just feels repetitive and more annoying than funny at this point. it was decent for a while though. The good news is that there should be no more holiday episodes this season so come back in a few months to see if it floats your boat again.

Also, I've only liked one Gene and Courtney episode. Courtney just does not work with me as a character. Sexy Dance healing looks interesting.

It was a good episode, could have used a bit more jokes. Teddy was great again. I really feel fox is forcing them to make a lot of 'holiday special' episodes.

Huh yeah, right following the pilot it's actually been Basically Columbus Day episode, Halloween episode, Thanksgiving episode, Christmas episode, one exception (with the dinner party ep that seemed like it belonged at the beginning of the season), Valentine's Day episode. I guess this must have been a purposeful "theme" for the season. Weird choice, but it's mostly been good.

Ditocoaf posted:I guess this must have been a purposeful "theme" for the season. Weird choice, but it's mostly been good. Fox does this a lot. You can head over to the Lucifer thread right now and read about how Fox moved a few end of the season episodes closer to the premiere so more people will start watching it and how it screwed up the storyline. From the gist of what I've read Bob's Burgers has lower ratings but a more loyal following than the big hitters Family Guy and the Simpsons, which translates to "The viewers are less likely to care that we change the timeslot and preempt the episodes for Grease Live and Football." It also has a very high rental rate on On-Demand type services so they probably think the episode premieres don't really matter all that much in the long run. What this means is that they wanted to put the bulk of the season after a time when there won't be any schedule interruptions so they can attempt to maximize viewership. And they have to show the holiday episodes when they did because it's weird showing a Thanksgiving episode in January and a Christmas episode in February. So now that Football's out of the way they'll most likely move everything back to regular production order. MrSlam fucked around with this message at 21:31 on Feb 16, 2016 |

I've accepted that putting up with the weird, nasally voices is a sort of entry fee for enjoying the show.

Bob's Burgers is best when they end up on some sort of crazy adventure, which is actually a lot of the episodes, so by comparison, the more down to earth ones like this one feel a little uninspired. It was still pretty good though.Kwyndig posted:Look at this wrong opinion. Everybody except for the Belcher family and Teddy should be voiced by H Jon Benjamin, he's a national treasure. See but he has almost the exact same delivery in every character he voices. It's annoying to have not one or two, but several characters in the show sound obviously like the main character. Like imagine if in The Simpsons, several supporting characters were obviously Homer's voice?

Seth MacFarlane is a much more talented voice actor than he is a writer. Don't fault the man his best talent. I don't mind all the HJB voices though. It's part of Bob's Burgers charm. The voices (especially Linda's) were something of a roadblock for me at first. "Why do this woman and her teenage daughter have male voices?" Now it's "Why does this standup comic have a teenage girl's voice?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvHZBlHbN3c MokBa fucked around with this message at 14:31 on Feb 17, 2016 |

I think the show is at its best when it's dealing with quotidian stuff and it really brings out the strengths of the writers. I enjoy most of the episodes where they end up going on some weird adventure thing, but I think once it strays into the realm of the fantastical (like the talking toilet or whatever), the show suffers.

I mostly agree. The best moments from the show are when they take mostly regular problems and it balloons into something bizarre. Tina wants an amazing birthday party? Okay, Bob has to be a graveyard cab driver to pay for it. By the end of the episode Bob had to shave his mustache to give to his diaper-fetishist rival and ends up becoming friends and possibly a pimp to the town's transexual hookers. And also he may have done cocaine.

Another hilarious thing about the show. In the pilot she's a boy, and the studio wanted her to be a girl instead, so they made her a girl, but changed literally nothing else about the character, including the VA, and nearly all the dialog in the pilot. Also, ask about the soundtrack. They do take fan questions. EDIT - That April 29th show sold out, so apparently they are doing another show at the same place on the 30th. new episode tonight marks the return of Jairo, the character that actually got me to watch the show (i was talked into attending a capoeira club recruiting thing in college and the bob's burgers parody was far too loving spot-on, which was my first episode and introduction to the show)
