I caught some of The Magic Voyage of Sinbad on the Forever-a-thon while I was getting ready for work this morning. I'd forgotten just how solid the riffs are in that one. I need to go back and watch it in full again.

Literally. I forget, who is the main character actually supposed to be again (and is the movie any better in its native language)?

Sadko (also the original title), subject of a medieval Russian oral epic poem and (as the gang riffed on) later adapted to music by Rimsky-Korsakov.

I generally like the new series but one thing that is weird to me is the contemporary and current references. I feel like even in the Mike/Joel days they weren't often referencing current stuff.

It still boggles me when I hear the Parappa the Rapper reference from Mike in one of the Sci-Fi episodes.

Honestly it's kind of wild to hear video game references in RiffTrax that I know come from Sean or Conor. They did one for Toejam and Earl which I approve of but it's hard to imagine the guys hunkering down in front of a Genesis to play it.

Although apparently Mike was quite the gamer back in the day, so maybe so. He was quite the hand at Doom, for one.

Except for gaming (where Mike probably does know what he's talking about) I generally assume anything related to 80s or 90s pop culture was Sean or Conor. Sometimes it's just obvious when a riff was written by a millennial.

I can't remember which ep I was watching but one of my favorite riffs, because of Trace's delivery, is when he does the Beyond 2000 "But don't look for it neow, because it's only available, in the yeah two thousend". My question is, how many of you guys watched Beyond 2000

I avoid S1 episodes and don't know that I've ever watched one straight through - it's weird seeing the show in such a primitive state, and also I HATE TOM SERVO'S OLD VOICE - but I caught a bit of Untamed Youth on the stream after reading this and I need to give that one an honest go. Big fan of the teen delinquent movies, and the riffing was stronger than I anticipated.

Though ironically Josh Weinstein sounded much better in the reboot and other post MST3K projects (he was fine as Dr Erhardt as well). The problem was the voice he chose for Tom was just so flat and lifeless it didn’t really give Joel and Trace much to bounce off of

Apparently he was going for a specific local DJ or maybe newscaster at the time.

The full movie is on Youtube, with a few options for subtitles. There's a gorgeous HD version that unfortunately only has auto-translated subs that are not very good. If you don't mind 480 resolution, this version has much better subs. They're still not perfect but you'll be able to follow the story.

The movie plot adds quite a bit compared to the traditional tale (everything with Ivan, most of the magical stuff, and the end is way less dark)

The more I watch Overdrawn, which is one of my favorites, the more i appreciate the bizarre reality that Raul Julia is one of the least hammy people in the performance, and that's amazing to think about. The guy played Bison.

I think he is actually horribly miscast and drags it down. I'd be very interested to learn about how he was cast and how much of the production budget was his salary
