The drink serving mechanics for people who only bought the 45 dollar starter package so they grind their way up to a starter ship. I over time dumped a bunch of money into a HOTAS and Oculus Rift setup so I could have a fully immersive IL-2:Battle of Stalingrad experience. It absolutely kicks rear end and is fully immersive, hardcore realism settings cranked to the max. But it's still a fantasy, and a limited one at that - of being an ace pilot in a simulation context. These lunatics fantasize artificial labor exploitation in a fake Galaxy that will never amount to any actual sense of satisfaction or emotional fulfillment. In the glory days of EVE Online, the 400+ ship battles (that are loving impossible in Cryengine especially when every missile fired is a complex physics object simulation) involved a lot of work and coordination where even the tiny ships could play a large part by "bumping" the massive titans. Loading cargo? Serving drinks? To grind out fake in-game currency? Isn't contributing to that level of narrative at all. It's all a loving delusion of space melodrama that the tech will never be able to support, especially with the hubris, feature creep, and incompetence of Chris Roberts. Star Citizen is not a game. It's a misery generator. Squadron 42 will never come out in the form of a AAA space shooter. This poo poo has loving come and gone and the backers will be left holding the bag and reading these people defend giving Chris and Sandi a free ride just disgusts me with how delusional they are.

Star Citizen is the game of life. It's all really exciting and easy to lose yourself in, but as it continues year after year you realise how much you've given and how much it still demands until finally the house cuts off your line of credit and you can no longer play.

When you guys say that SM is more lethal than COD you are being ironic, right? Last time I checked it takes at most 3 bullets to kill a player at center mass, as opposed to the 10 you need in SM.

There are a bajillion different libraries that let you do that, a large portion of which will let you do it with encrypted packages as well. That part is not a problem and it does not break delta patching as it exists today. All it does is require the patcher to contain the keys needed, which somewhat defeats the purpose of the encryption… but then, that purpose is defeated by default by this being an actual mass-market game. lol if truthful and factual. MilesK posted:But if they didn't encrypt every file, people might figure out they've barely done anything to CryEngine since 2013. Better to be safe. I suspect this all the time. Chris had a vision of shooter gameplay even deadlier than Call of Duty and Star Marine answered the call. How did he do it? How did a homegrown FPS from an upstart studio manage to be so deadly it caused suffering for the biggest genre franchise around? One word. Stealth. Chris Roberts posted:"Stealth is part of the core design. We are trying to make the FPS gameplay itself be more tactical, less just 'run and gun'. This isn't the "dumbed-down" combat of franchise trash like COD or Battlefield: Chris Roberts posted:“We really want the players to be invested in their characters, so when they get into FPS combat it should be more meaningful. The idea is to be more in the direction of a game like Demon’s Souls, where your character and life mean more to you, so you don’t want to get killed. We got up to 1200 for the height of the named 1400mm artillery spam. That was glorious, because we literally had a firing line; Non-eve players - the fire command normally runs on a loop, 'firing' when a timer goes off. In large engagements, the 'fire' would go off, but the indication that the timer had run out and the next 'fire' wouldn't actually happen. So you switched to manual triggering of the weapons and hit them when TS called 'fire'. Lot of loving alpha. There was also the point that the whole thing would drop to 5fps when you had tonnes of poo poo on grid. Tippis posted:Wtf is a snoopy cap? The better question is, once again, "Why ?" I mean it make sense now, some nations astronauts are not subject to regulation haircuts and you need some way to make sure the com gear stay in place during EVA since once your in you cant touch or adjust it. (Fun fact, EVA helmets have little patches of velcro inside so you can rub your nose on them in case of itch) Coms are also prone to glitch and malfunctions, so i assume it is much easier to fix a realtively cheap snoopy cap (real name is the CCA, communication carrier assembly) instead of working on a costly and precious suit helmet if coms where built in. You probably also upgrade your com hardware more often than the custom made helmet. But in a world where you can pump gravity and space suits with nipplejets are dime a dozen why would coms not be integrated into the UEE mass manufactured suits/armors ? Even better, why do UEE personnel not given communication implants as part of the enlisting package ? We are nearly there already today : http://www.washington.edu/news/2016...hat-talk-wi-fi/ Even CIG approach to versimilitude is hosed. aleksendr fucked around with this message at 14:06 on Jul 31, 2017 |

A lot of sci-fi properties do this where they are hanging on to 1980s and 1990s ideas of what sci-fi is but a lot of the gadgets end up being lower tech than real things we have now. Classic example is anything Star Trek still using communicators, datapads, tricorders and so on when we have smartphones now which do a lot of that stuff but better, there are even phones which take different kinds of scientific measurements.

I agree, and done well you get a wonderfull feeling of "retro tech", the best recent example being "Alien - Isolation". Or take "Rebel Galaxy", the moment you boot it up you instantly get the feeling "Trucker in space" and that feeling is there everywhere, from the music to the bar where you meet npcs. But in SC case the art direction and tone is all over the place. You get your "rusty bucket of bolt" feeling from some ships like the terrapin or starlancer but they fly in the same galaxy than the super advanced looking stealth bomber and the alien chinese flying fish. Having a consistent tone is key to solid world building and "construction of the whole" in a multimedia art piece.
