Well if the judge knew anything she would have dismissed it with prejudice immediately and made crytek pay CIG's legal bills plus a few million for the inconvenience and then liquidate the company and give everything to CIG as a penalty for bringing such a frivolous and malicious action and then Derp Shart would have been indicted on charges of tortious interference and conspiracy to commit corporate espionage.

I'm going to disagree and say it's completely normal, but I practice in a land of larger-than-life trial lawyers (Texas). Nothing filed by CIG so far would even get noticed here. What it takes to get in trouble here is something like sending a letter to the Texas Supreme Court accusing them of being stupid and corrupt (this has happened). Some jurisdictions are different though, since I've also seen some uptight Philadelphia lawyers come here and freak out because we used a common colloquialism in a filing. I'm guessing the difference in tone is because practice in California is more like Texas than Philadelphia/New York.

California is its own beast. But there's a lot of difference even between Missouri & Illinois. Illinois is weird because you'll get the super professionals out of Chicago and then Larry the yokel trial lawyer down in Southern Illinois. Especially over in Madison County, Illinois: everyone's favorite place to sue unless its over copyright.

My theory: OCS is crap. They can’t just let the Evocati have a build that is completely unfunctional (with OCS), it would be knocked back and there would be no illusion of progress.

So they give Evocati two builds. They test OCS and find it makes things completely non functional, but they also have a second 3.3 build that could barely meet the label of ‘playability’ if you squint at it out of the corner of your eye in the right light.

Then CIG can say “hey, we are SO close with OCS, but due to Evocati feedback we are going to keep refining it for 3.4, and in the meantime we will release 3.3 to you all with out OCS”.

Citizens get the illusion of progress (3.3 gets released, OCS has been ‘tested’ and is ‘being refined before release’, shills get something to market, CIG can squeeze a few more dollars out.

It's worse than that, though. He isn't obsessed with Star Citizen because it doesn't exist. There's not even an agreed upon design for what it is supposed to be. So he's naming his kid after bad lore written by an idiot for a nonexistent game which was used to scam him out of however many dollars he gave away.

Internet and women, that's how it goes. It is more interesting because of that soap opera stuff surrounding that whole thing. "No she isn't my wife." "Yes, I have two PhDs". "Yes, I'am a Hollywood actor".

Actually, I think that Chris and Sandi are basically normal people with an ego problem. In Chris' case it is fueled by his successes ~30 years ago, but an ego problem in combination with 200 million dollar is bad, the result is documented quite well here.
Sandi was drawn in because she likes the spotlight and hopes to star in some movies. She doesn't care about PC gaming neckbeards and probably hasn't heard about wing commander until she met Chris. For Chris it is similar, he doesn't give a gently caress about games and want's to tell stories and direct movies.

And I think thats it, the fun for me lies in watching the trainwreck that is SC, laughing about that "meeting the devs"-episodes and all the hilarious things that come with it. We have some people in this thread that work in the software industry, myself included, and from that perspective it is hilarous what comes out of CIG.

A little bit of personal grief also plays a role for me, despite the 70 bucks I've wasted (Friend said: See it like a ticket for the opera, but the final act might take a few years more), but I've loved Origin. I've spent way more time on the Crusader games and listening to that soundtrack as was healthy for me. Wing Commander was nice, but just some sort of distraction, really nothing groundbreaking. The true geniuses behind those games are all lost and forgotten and people like Chris make their retirement found out of it. That sucks, really. Yeah, I'am drunk and pissed of about this whole affair, Sandi really has the smallest part in it.

Foo Diddley posted:

Let me tell you a story about macros. Years ago when I was running Slackware I had to update GTK+ for some reason. And there's no real package manager in Slackware, there's no clicking "update", you can install the official version in a few months when Patrick gets around to updating it; if you want it done now you're compiling it yourself. And that means that you're also compiling all the dependencies, all the way down to the fundamentals. Now this isn't really as hard as it sounds. Generally you just go through each library and do "./configure && make && make install" and move on to the next one. It's when this doesn't work that you get to experience The Joy of Linux

My problem was this: There was project A, which depended on project B, which depended on project C. Now the developer of project B had just discovered the outside world, girls, and parties. Or something like that; anyway he didn't want to maintain his project anymore. So project B was no longer available. The developers of project A expected the developers of project C to incorporate this code, and the developers of project C expected the same of the developers of project A. Neither had yet done so. So at the time I was doing this, there was no way to resolve these dependencies

What I did was I looked up some of the missing symbols that GCC was complaining about, and I managed to find an old version of project B's source code that some neckbeard was hosting on a public FTP server for some reason. Thank you, random neckbeard. So I download this and of course it doesn't compile. I look at the code that GCC's bitching about and apparently, standard C preprocessor syntax was just not loving arcane enough for the guy who wrote this, and he's replaced it with macros. Made of macros. Which are themselves made of macros. It's macros all the way down, half a dozen files and hundreds of lines of the poo poo, and somewhere in all this mess is a piece of code that GCC used to be cool with, but no longer tolerates

Hours later, I'm still trying to figure out what the gently caress this code does, I'm out of coffee, I've got a headache, and I'm thoroughly pissed off. I can see that it's trying to do something with a header file, whatever.h, but I can't for the life of me figure out what. So in desperation, and more than a little anger, I tear out all that macro bullshit, every piece of it, and replace it with
code:
#include "whatever.h"
and it compiles.

I think I went to the bar after that; in any case I was done loving around with the computer for a while. Anyway, that's my macro story, I hope you liked it

and that random neckbeard

You know what they're doing. They're pushing out two identical builds and sending a few of the "OCS Enabled Builds" that are the same build just labeled differently to the most vocal of the believers so that even though they won't be able to tell anything is different they'll still claim they noticed something different and amazing because they'll actually believe they did

"The OCS build will be nearly identical to the 3.3.0 build and as such won't have build specific patch notes, though you may observe some content differences." That line outright tells us what is in it, which is nothing. All the rest is just horseshit layered on top to make it smell different.
