If I'm reading the kraken sale graph right, it's about 1.8m to 3.45m, ie 1.65m, 1000 x $1650 so they had 1000 for sale? Sold every one at full price? That just works out too nicely to seem legit to me.

Never underestimate the gullibility of the core SC fuckwit whale base. They watch a demonstration with no AI spaceships flying anywhere and pedestrian NPCs that can't even board a train and feel confident that their life replacement universe simulation is coming along nicely after seven years of development. A shocking number of these idiots will have purchased multiple Krakens for their JPEG fleets. 1,500 to 2,000 sold would make perfect sense.

With their crews of virtual sex slaves swabbing their deck? Something that was pointed out by those with a few more brain cells a long time ago, and confirmed with game play in other games, is why the hell would people crew a ship rather than bring their own? Usually having more crew doesn't make you more effective outside of some novelty. I've seen in with Elite Dangerous. Occasionally I've seen it used by people out exploring who just want to come in and go pew pew for a bit. Multi-crew works out very well for that, but how many serious PVPers used it? It was always better to bring a wing of 4 combat ships than have say a fully crewed cutter or corvette. It's going to be interesting to see how that works out in DDCS with the F-14 which has a backseat people can fill. I could see using it as a poor man's AWACS (Iran did this IRL during the Iran-Iraq war), but would you rather have one F-14 flying CAP or two F-14's flying CAP? Now you can run out of life points and not be able to fly CAP aircraft for 30 - 60 minutes due to friendly fire or you suck or it's just not your day. Typically then you'd go to Tac Commander and become the ground control intercept officer (Magic) until you'd gain back enough points. But each side only has 20 slots each. And with those 20 slots having 2 people use one aircraft is probably not enough of a force multiplier vs. having 2 players in 2 different aircraft. Even if one of those is a "lesser" aircraft like a MiG-21 or F-5 that only takes 1 point to take off. That's still an additional air frame for the enemy to shoot at as well as two to six more AAM's or bombs in the air. My bet is the first week people will be flying RIO because of the novelty, but after that you'll see two people flying two F-14's using the AI RIO. The same would be true in SC. People who think it's cool to drop off marines in a drop ship...have they ever played something like Project Reality or Planetside 2 where it really sucks to be on a transport, flying for 10 minutes, only to be wasted by a SAM or enemy aircraft before even getting to the AO? In other news finally caught up with the Frontier dev stream from the other day. Finally after 4 years Elite is getting some exploration gameplay. But I guess they too have a "golf" mechanic only launching probes rather than a timing mini game. Looks to be some actual depth there with sensors giving different readings for different planet types, launching probes to get bonuses, etc. USS's not being completely random client side events anymore and possible more integration of exploration with mining and possibly the background sim? drat they may finally be building a game on top of the best drat universe screen shot simulator...

This is a really odd, but really interesting discussion on how Disney royally hosed up Star Wars using a concept called a Legitimacy Crisis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLPhi9gXe20 I feel like there are some analogies to Star Citizen and the underlying social system.

It was always better to bring a wing of 4 combat ships than have say a fully crewed cutter or corvette. While i guess most players want a fun space game with lots of action, there is a small group who seem to want second life in space and it looks like the devs are catering to them. It would seem that by no coincidence that the second lifers are also the whales. They probably do expect to have peons who man their ships for them while they sit drinking coffee from the captain's chair. They probably think this will enable them to win in any combat situation. I think they will have a sharp hit of reality when they encounter a group of PvPers flying small cheap ships who rip their kraken to shreds while their crew are scrambling for the turrets and ships. And thanks to fidelity and stuff, they will first have to run to the docks, get out of their casual clothing and into space suits. Some of them i guess will have been naked doing ERP with the other ship mates, because hey, what else to do on a long flight anyway? As for the attackers, i could see them coming in, doing damage, then breaking off as soon as the ships start to launch and turrets start firing. The Kraken will only be able to follow one ship and will wants its fighters with it. When they settle back from red alert, the attack can come again. Heart pounding stuff indeed! ![]() I sometimes think that SC will not have many players once it releases and people discover its second life in space. But then i think how popular second life is/was, and how much money people threw at that game. Assuming the devs can actually ship something, it might not be the BDSSE, but it might be the best drat space second life ever, and make a load of money selling land, housing, and cosmetics to second lifers. Of course, a lot of the original backers will be miffed at this, but they are probably peons who didn't back enough and can be disregarded by CIG.

Wow, so they sold about 1000 Krakens? That's going to be interesting to see how they crew them. Imagine the whole playerbase sat in big ships looking at each other asking each other who wants to join their crew. "Come on guys, come over to my Kraken!" "No, you come over to mine! Its my turn to be Captain!" "You were Captain last week! Its my turn. And i need the toilets cleaning!"

Star Citizen doesn't have the same issue that the SW films, western comics, and long-running shows have (that they have basically become fan-fiction) since Roberts is Star Citizen and Star Citizen is his. He has the ideas, brings the money, codes all night, is the face of the company, etc. There are no legitimacy issues.
