Just found a tiny indie title on steam. It's called objects in space. It has 100x more depth and complexity than star citizen has and it is also a game and it works. Be a trader, bounty hunter, explorer, pirate or all of them at the same time! scanning, stealth, repair, modular ships! i mean right now its better than star citizen in every where and half the game is pixel art. It is just amazing what a tiny studio can do with shoe string budget and a little bit of competence.

Ehh, just looked it up, how unfidelitous. And just ~16 euros? Must be garbage. On a serious note, I found his/hers dev blogs quite interesting, especially the early ones. They might just have been a wall of text + a few screenshots, but it showed an interesting thought process. "With that image in my head, I chose C++ & Cocos2D-X – as it was the framework and language I was most familiar with" vs. "Hey they make us a demo for our fake kickstarter if we use their engine!" "I even went a fair ways into making missiles work properly – quite a challenge in the end, as I had never coded ‘autopilot’ or navigation systems for 2d objects moving in newtonian space before." vs. "We create an AI that is indistinguishable from real players! Wait, what do you mean our missiles don't work and doors still kill people? Stop spreading FUD!" "The 2D wasn’t going to hold up. See, I had begun the prototype very early on in my C++ game-developing career, and I had, in no uncertain terms, made some bad decisions when it came to the fundamental game rendering engine. The underlying simulation was solid, but the way I was doing the simulated monitors was pretty broken. (I was simulating individual pixels for each whole screen – a nice visual result, but absurdly CPU intensive)" vs. ... well, with SC, the renderer is probably the only thing that works more or less since its not from them. Their background simulation on the other hand, is rotten to the core and I doubt that whole PU-thing is salvagable. So in short, they completely canned their 2D prototype and used a 3d engine instead. However, the underlying game logic/simulation was solid enough to survive that change. This is probably the antithesis to CIGs development which seems to be an intertwined mess nobody understands anymore and where probably the logic for "open door" was put somewhere into the renderer and communicates the door state via shared memory to the game logic or something like that. I really hope to see/read some kind of post mortem when SC finally fails, the amount of amateurish bullshit, bad decisions and wasted work will be glorious.

The hilarity on Rex's stream continues: random crashes, Rex getting killed by rocks he stands on, spaceships out of control, people with heads stuck in the ceiling, the endless repetition of "VIP missions" in the dusty canyon. And then it hit a new low. The stream died and I thought maybe CIG had asked him not to show any more crashes. His explanation the next day was that Star Citizen completely incapacitated his PC. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/392808456?t=9m30s It doesn't get much better for the poor, hard working shill. At this point he calls out to his RSI overlords asking for them to fix it. He ends up streaming the process of just trying to get Star Citizen to work. At least he's giving an honest representation of what Star Citizen is about. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/392808456?t=15m30s He might be starting to snap. It's painful but watch it to the end, it's so loving funny. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/392808456?t=19m20s For me, this is the best thing on the internet. I'm pretty sure they could care less about what Star Citizen programmers who just graduated Full Sail or a community college are trying to struggle with. Meanwhile they have Fortnight/Unreal running great on basically a loving iPad and a phone at this point.
