Wow good for him, sticking to his guns and all that

I'm sure CIG is glad to have him as a very vocal spokesperson!

I wonder if Ben brought him on board back in the day

It wasn't an ELE that wiped out the backer funds. It was Tristan Timothy Taylor.

How do you license that which is not yours?

* It doesn't actually do anything
* You cannot ferry NPC's in this game

But doesn't the existence of a "dropship" indicate that CIG has gameplay mechanics planned for said dropship? I mean, who would be dumb enough to have a game with a dropship and no dropship gameplay? CIG are professionals and know what they're doing better than any of us. It's alpha, crew transport is coming in patch 3.5.niner.42069.

I quite like collecting materials in a SRV. There again, i'm circumnavigating a planet in an SRV with some other loons so i'm probably not the most normal person.

Funny thing is, base building and space legs are two of the most requested features, probably because people dream in their heads what they think it will be like without considering the reality.

Take the X series for example. I built bases in X. Lots of them, i took over whole sectors with my bases... and was completely and utterly bored with it.

I ask people, what do you think you will get with base building? There are already 80,000 places to call home in the game, where you can park your ships, take missions, get cargo, etc. And then the head off into cloud cuckoo land with things like adding defenses, beating off attacks from other players, storing cargo there (why?), customizing the base, and other things.

I don't think they stop to think for a moment that firstly this is FD we are talking about. I love the company for what they have done and i love the game, but we have to be realistic about what we will actually get. And defend the base? What for? Why? Who is going to attack it? Its not going to be destructable anyway. And how are you going to defend your base when its being attack from solo? Or just when you are offline.

Sometimes ED players dreamcraft like SC backers.... and if you try and temper their expectations, they get upset with you, instead of getting upset with themselves for not thinking about things for a moment.

"I have spread my dreams under your feet, tread softly because you tread on my dreams."

I'm not that eager to get space legs in Elite, but if it comes, I hope it will add a layer of scale.
Ships work at the level of stars and planets. The SRV at the level of terrain types and ore. Then maybe walking around at the level of rocks, grit, minerals, doors in bases, and the small beings that may live on the alien growths we see here and there.
Oh, and to stand on top of a spaceship and be taken to orbit like an SRV.

Instead of doing it the way every single space game ever does it (smaller ships are faster but with less range and cargo, and larger ships can go farther and carry more but move slower) CIG has decided to take a novel approach by making smaller ships worse in every measurable way, in the hopes that it will force players to live out Chris Roberts's "WWII Aircraft Carrier In Space" fantasy.

Yeah, that...

A second person also mentioned their amount spent in terms of cups of coffee bought.... seems like they are obsessed with coffee.

They also love to deflect with talk about how they spent more on other things, like that somehow makes it better.

I think the difference is people who can afford these things will buy and use them and people who definitely can't afford them will buy them anyway and then realise how much money they spent and be terrified of ever causing them any harm. Like a citizen and their ships without LTI.

Here's another thing you could compare the cost of buying a video game to: the cost of buying a video game. Nearly every game I play is something I've bought discounted to like $10 or less. These people are paying literally a thousand times as much for their early access vapourware.
