If all 1400 people who voted for it buy it for its overblown price, even though the mechanics aren't in the game yet, we can fund like a week of development for CIG (even though actual development of the ship and its mechanics will surely take month or two at least), great!

These people are seriously out of the loop about how CIG operates.

- we have chris crossing the atlantic to attend some lovely sales event in frankfurt (but not gamescom)
- at the same time 3 people are attending the barcitizen in cologne (an entry free event)

I think I would do as Croberts. I probably would see it as liberating those dollars from a group of idiots that would spend it in something even worse.

There's something else about bears not many people know. If a bear gets hooked on the taste of crowdfunding, it becomes a man-killer. He'll go on a rampage and has to be destroyed. And that's why you should never hug a bear.

We are. It has been a long time. How, then, to make sense of the steady year-on-year funding rate? I cannot imagine such a thing as a newly-minted Star Citizen whale, nor can I imagine that there has been no attrition in the existing ones, whether from loss of faith, changed financial circumstances, or fates more dire. So what gives? How to account for the steady, unceasing flow of "warbond" dollars?

I guess it makes sense that they are releasing this at the end of Gamescom in lieu of a September Citcon. I really want to know if the November anniversary sale ship is still going to be a $200-$400 mid tier jpg, or if they are going to double dip with another $700+ whale jpg because it's Citcon.

If you thought rockets were glitchy, mines are going to take it to a whole new level. It seems like a bad idea to release it after the last ship was something that only fired rockets. But hey, it's an alpha, so it's ok they're releasing yet another broken on arrival ship.

Imagine spending 700 dollars on a ship just now entering concept, in a game where the average turn-around time for these things is 3+ years and the game's already been in development for 7.

You can't possibly lose! Gonna be an absolute master of the verse in 2022, alpha 3.19!

'So, I spoke the whole evening with a developer who has been with us since 2012 and has already worked on the first trailer and several commercials (300i, Constellation, Hammerhead,...). Now he's working on SQ42. Since I'm still on my way home and typing on my mobile phone, I'll be brief. Squadron 42 is making good progress and the developer had a lot of interesting details to tell. When asked about the game time, he said it would be much more than the typical shooter campaigns. There is Motion Capture material for 11-13 hours alone, so almost 6 movies. In general there are probably more animations than in any other game. The focus of development is really on SQ42.'

Which is better, buying a new ship and hoping they prioritize it, or to being the owner of an old ship they have completely forgotten?

CIG: "Oh really good! We've recorded six movies' worth of cutscenes for a totally different game. They're non-interactive! And there sure are a shitload of them!"

CIG: "By the way here's a 700 dollar spaceship in the other game, the one we just told you we're not actually working on. It's really going to punch above its' weight and you definitely won't be pissing your money away on another year of cutscenes!"

I really like how every one of these ships sees massive, massive downgrades as newer ships go up for sale. This loving minelayer currently has the biggest turret-mounted guns of any of the corvette-class ships, including the "Torpedo attack ship" and the "Literally a flying gunship ship." Fidelity. Wait, was I'm working on again?

I mean we all knew this, but it's nice to have it confirmed. Chris is making a 90's cutscene fiasco that the rest of the industry, and every gamer who ever lived, moved quickly and happily away from at lightning speed. Chris has no idea how to make a game. He lied about an MMO to fund a game that nobody wanted then, nobody wants now, and nobody will ever want. To me that crosses the line into fraud. Promise game A that everyone wants, use the money to make game B that nobody wants. And do it all in a topsy-turvy way that blurs the line between the games and implies that progress on one equates to progress on the other.

I'm starting to think we are going to see Squadron 42. Absolute banal poo poo for dozens of hours, interspersed with the 2022 gaming equivalent of Sewer Shark.
