Kengan just takes realistic fighting concepts (mostly) and stretches them until they look Anime enough. It's kinda like Ippo but Ippo tends to be even more conservative (except for Mogli).

Karate Shoukoushi Kohinata Minoru is probably the most realistic I've seen and Sakigake! Otokojuku is probably the least. I'd highly recommend the latter if you like insane martial arts and don't mind heavy Japanese nationalism.
