Just watched the premiere after seeing many recommendations for it (outside this thread). It can be a bit slow at moments but generally does a great job of setting everything up while being entertaining on its own. Good poo poo, will definitely watch further.

Now that there's gonna be a season 2, and considering I think they're likely to stay with the same cast for at least a while longer, anyone else suspect that it will be revealed that Leslie orchestrated the whole "bankruptcy" thing specifically so he could step up? There may even be clues that this is the case and I missed them, because the show does go out of its way to show us that, barring something massive like bankruptcy, Leslie was never going to get promoted. Kurtwood Smith is doing a great job and it would be an interesting way to keep him around if John found out his secret. On rewatch it also struck me how brilliant the casting for "Muslim Terry O'Quinn" and "Muslim Cool Rick" was. Also on rewatch the most insanely sad thing is the suicide scene with "Double Great". Man that slayed me.

The middle dragged but the first and last 30 minutes are fantastic. Great little flick.

One of my favorite shows of all time, absolutely brilliant. Can anyone confirm that a Season 2 is actually green-lighted for production? There seems to be a lot of speculation and rumors that it has, but I can't find anywhere that states Amazon is making it happen. My favorite character turned out to be Dennis upon second viewing of Season 1. I didn't fully appreciate how authentic and invested his character was until I watched him again. My favorite scene of his after the "long walk" up to John sitting in the pipe in Ep.8- Dennis- "Hey. Just wanted to give you an update about my life. You ever stay in a kind of, lovely hotel that has the TV and its chained to the wall? Well, that's where I live now. And I look at it, and I think - even if I could get the TV off the chain, I couldn't steal it because, I have nowhere to take it because, I have no home now." oh and of course, Leslie - "ARE YOU PREPARED?"

The blossoming bromance between Cool Rick and Muslim Cool Rick was great. I loved it when the dad is describing that in every family with a John will also have an Edward and their days, attitude, and outfit are shown to perfectly match up. Also laughed really hard at the Muslim wife watching porno for the first time. Only show I have ever watched that gives you everything you need to know about the main character in the first 2 minutes. With a Folk song!

This is a very funny and poignant show and I'm coming from a place of basically presuming nearly every show created for a streaming platform tends to be TV-shaped incoherent garbage crudely assembled to fill some exec board's genre chart. The Wisconsin office park material was solid gold and insanely well cast. The Luxembourg stuff really pushed the McGuffin action as far as it would stretch but I still got a huge kick out of things like the unwitting high stakes race to the dullest section of the library I'm also very into the fact that as far as there's a villain it's John's dad savinhill posted:I like to think that since they didn't show him actually die, that he failed in his suicide attempt like he failed at so much other stuff in his life. You can see Rob's stretched the rope over his unsellable cracked kayak so I am hoping that's a setup for it to break under his weight, or at least the show has a strong out from the suicide that would be very in keeping with its tone

I'll start by saying I absolutely love this show. There's one tiny tech glitch in the first episode that smacks me every time. Kurtwood Smith pronounces fillet weld as fil-LAY weld, when in the industrial world it's pronounced phonetically, like fill-it weld. But all the other phraseology they use is either real and correct, or fake and hilariously realistic. As an engineering nerd who notices poo poo like that it's deliciously satisfying, and makes the one little error easily forgivable. Basically, given how great the jargon is, I'm surprised that error slipped through. I'd chalk it up to pilot episode.

This is an exceptional show but I had some trouble understanding the relationships in the Tavner family. I kept expecting Cool Rick to be adopted. Also, it got a little confusing as to whether Alice was John's sister or wife or sister-wife for a while. Am I wrong or did John's dad not refer to Alice as his "daughter" a few times? They never explained why John ended up in the CIA while Cool Rick ended up pursuing the more traditional political paths, did they? I don't need the whole story in 1 season, i just want to make sure I didn't miss something.

I think it's also meant to be implied that Cool Rick and Your Mom still have an "on again off again" sort of deal going because there's never any mention of Ephraim having a stepdad or anything, and from what we see Cool Rick and Your Mom still talk on the phone like constantly. e: We know he's been a Congressman since Ephraim was born, so when he met Your Mom in DC, he was already set up in Texas, so it may have been a thing where she didn't want to marry him and move to Texas

Few things I haven't been able to clear up ... Why does Edward call himself "Cool Rick?" Which one is the older brother? In the family videos, there are times they look the same age (motorcycles) and times where one appears to be a couple years older (whooping around the bbq). I believe John is the older brother because he's more mature and less naive and Edward is less responsible. But my wife argues that "Cool Rick" is a big brother nickname and that Edward is always looking out for John, his younger brother. Also, my favorite scene is Ichabod and John, cuddling in the woods. One thing that confused me was John smiling when he shoots Leslie.

I think "Cool Rick" might derive from "Slick Rick", since Eddie is a big rap fan. I watched this a few weeks ago and then immediately made my roommate and friend watch it with me again. I loved the initial run, but the follow-up watch confirms just how well-orchestrated the whole thing is. The absurd dark comedy slays me, but the show also does a great job at exploring the dynamics of family, responsibility, and the consequences of individual actions. I'm blown away at the reviews calling this mediocre or a show that exists for no purpose. It has one of the best pilots I've seen in awhile, setting up every main character and a bunch of key details that pay off throughout the rest of the season. The show as a whole has almost no fat at all. Everything matters and it's all pretty drat satisfying. Add onto that the beautiful cinematography, some amazingly constructed scenes, and terrific performances and it's just a double great show.
