Well, BtS is supposed to have multiple possible endings. I wonder if deck 9 is going to include non-canon endings as a choice (i.e. Rachel and Chloe make it out of town) or if it will be along the lines of choosing to reconnect Rachel with her mom or using her as a scapegoat for the fire so that everything flows into LiS correctly.

They can also hand wave away a lot of "non canon" endings just due to the time between the games. Like they run away and its great! But Rachels Dad finds them and brings Rachel back or something.

I believe Deck Nine have said they have no intention to rewrite Life is Strange, and I would think much, much less of BtS if there ended up being some happy waifu ending. It would feel super cheap as much of the impact around Rachel Amber being brought to life in the prequel is knowing what happens to her later. That's the kind of thing I was worried Deck Nine would do when this project was first announced, but fortunately they seem to understand what the original series was all about. Regardless of what the final decision will be I think episode three will end on a bittersweet note, I'm guessing with Dadraven revealing Rachel Amber and perhaps Chloe's own tragic death in some half-understood prophetic dream. Maybe they'll pull a Stranger Things and have another D&D session with the gang that intimates at future events. Chloe's resolution being to make the most of what she has with Rachel, knowing nothing gold can stay.

Yeah, if there are multiple endings I could see them being handled in a way that makes it so all of them can tie into LiS proper in some fashion. I doubt they're going to just completely break canon in a few of them at any rate (assuming there's more than 2 possible endings this time around). Also in retrospect I'm actually fine with the limited scope of this game as if you think about it, most of the stuff that happens between now and Life is Strange is really more Rachel's story than it is Chloe's. Either way, none of them are probably going to be particularly happy (as has been mentioned, something bittersweet is probably the best we can hope for here). I do hope they're at least a little more involved than the first game's endings were at any rate (that is, something besides just a montage set to music followed by credits). Closing out on some kind of lead up to the bathroom scene in the original might be thematically appropriate as well but I'm not sure if they'll go that route. I'm not sure if they'd be able to do this but it would be nice if we got our first little teaser trailer for Life is Strange 2 at the end of Episode 3 (or the bonus episode for that matter). If they follow the pattern so far I'd expect Hell is Empty to drop sometime around mid to late December at the earliest. Larryb fucked around with this message at 19:11 on Oct 26, 2017 |

Life Is Strange has been given lots of treatments since it came along. Visual novels, fanfilms, songs based on the characters, its own upcoming digital series...but let me ask you this! When are we going to get a script for Life Is Strange: The Musical? Come ooooooooon, a man can dream! If there can be a fanfic in which Chloe is a swordswoman and Max is a forest priestess set in a world of sword and sorcery then surely this too can be a thing! But there are other variations such as Chloe being really into it and Rachel being hesistant (PURE CRINGE) or even Rachel getting weirded out by Chloe's mixed signals. I don't even want to YouTube these alternate sad realities, Rachel was hella into it in my game and that's canon imo

As long as the games are good and they continue to produce soundtracks that are just as good if not better I actually wouldn't mind seeing Life is Strange become a franchise of sorts eventually (with Dontnod handling the main titles and Deck 9 producing side games like this one). We've already got a prequel as well as an a upcoming sequel and a live action series currently in development after all. Speaking of the latter, has there been any further word on that lately? I'm also curious how it's going to work without coming off as just Twin Peaks with Superpowers. I suppose the real test will be Life is Strange 2 where we see how well things can still work without any Arcadia Bay residents present (that we're aware of at any rate). But I have faith in Dontnod at the moment and hope they managed to learn from their mistakes with the first game. I'd imagine we'll probably be getting our first peek at the game sometime next year. Hey Tea, do you have any links to the alternate versions of the kissing scene? Rachel was all gung-ho in mine, and all google was giving me when I searched last night were the outcomes of the tattoo/bracelet options.

As sad as it will be to finally let Arcadia Bay go I would prefer it if they didn't keep tortuously returning to the same setting over and over. You can see the example left by Telltale's The Walking Dead in 2012 and how every subsequent chapter became some watered down, cargo cult imitation of the original. Before the Storm had every reason to be terrible and the fact that it's actually been pretty good so far is miraculous enough. That being said I'd totally watch a Blackwell Academy miniseries on HBO or something like that. Last I heard the LiS digital series adaptation was in production limbo, where most of these projects tend to end up.

Yvonmukluk posted:The series could have it primarily follow Chloe's perspective, where it all goes through mostly as the 'perfect' run, and then at the End of The World party max drops the 'I just travelled back from when you died' and then do a few episodes showing the alternate timelines (William Lives, Max in San Fran, the Dark Room). While I'd like to return to Arcadia Bay at some point I think Chloe's story has basically been told by now. Life is Strange as a whole is more or less the story of two of the most important (and bizarre) weeks of Chloe's life (meeting Rachel Amber and reuniting with Max) and a girl who after basically spending 5 years of her life in Hell eventually winds up (in one ending at least) becoming a savior to the very town she despised (and in the usual cruel irony, nobody knows about it except Max). It's probably time to give somebody else a turn in the spotlight now. I'm not sure if Max is interesting enough to carry a game by herself but a sequel to BtS starring Rachel could work. Not sure who else could possibly make a decent protagonist though, Victoria or Frank maybe? Larryb fucked around with this message at 12:54 on Oct 27, 2017 |

Last I heard the LiS digital series adaptation was in production limbo, where most of these projects tend to end up. While I wouldn't object to maybe one more prequel if it was as good as BtS, I kind of agree about moving on from Arcadia Bay. Fanfics can be a good way to indulge in reading about your favorite characters as much as you want, but the official games can't keep spinning their wheels like that. But I am curious about what the sequel is going to be like. How much from LiS is going to become a staple of the series? Teenage protagonists? Supernatural powers/visions? Twin Peaks style small towns? LGBT themes? Also hoping the sequel drops some good Easter eggs, like maybe seeing Chloe's truck parked in the background. Larryb posted:
I think Rachel is like Max in that she works better as a supporting role. She's all about the mystery: where did she go, who is she, what is she really like, what game is she playing? Playing from her point of view would undercut a lot of that IMO. Frank has some potential. He's mixed up in the criminal side of Arcadia Bay that we only got glimpses of before, and has a dynamic enough personality I think he could be a protagonist. A Life is Strange + Deadly Premonition crossover would basically just be reconstituted Twin Peaks, not like there's anything wrong with that. Also I just want to say how amazing it is that the drama teacher's response to his actors flipping the entire script of the Tempest in the opening five minutes is "eh, I ship it."

Twin Peaks has the unforeseen yet lasting legacy of inspiring some of the best video games ever made. Silent Hill 2, Life is Strange, Kentucky Route Zero, Deadly Premonition, Link's Awakening (really) all claim direct influence from that show.

I still think calling Deadly Premonition "inspired" by twin peaks is a weird way to describe it. It's essentially fanfiction with names changed You also did not say the best one, which is Night in the Woods

Deadly Premonition is Twin Peaks if you ever thought what Twin Peaks needed were half-assed RE4 shooting gallery segments. It's the one of the bunch that does most closely match TP's oddball kookiness and characters though. NITW is good but I guess I never really considered it as much of a Twin Peaks ripoff as the others, it's got its own existential horror kind of thing going on.
