If they had the ability to pick other expressions for Max they should just be variations of listless or pouty.

It's.. weird. There are a couple of configurations but the one I prefer is a simulated pair of invisible analogue sticks on each side of the screen. You can turn the camera by swiping anywhere or by using the "right stick." You can also tell Max where to go by tapping a spot in the world but it's not always easy, especially on a small phone screen but works fine I guess. At least she runs if the spot is far away. You interact with things by walking up to them and tapping the prompts that appear over them. So yeah, the controls aren't perfect but then again, there aren't that many parts (aside from maybe the stealth sections) where you need quick reflexes so it's not that big of a deal. Otherwise the game is the full game, nothing trimmed back from what I can see aside from the graphics but that's expected. The first episode is super cheap so I recommend checking it out.

Is there still a designated run button or does it just happen automatically at certain points. Also how does rewinding/fast forwarding/quick rewinding work in the mobile version? Also, despite playing these games multiple times there are still some minor aspects I'm not entirely clear on: -This one has been mentioned before but since she apparently knew the code to her dad's office Rachel technically could have found out the truth about Sera at any time. So when she saw the text he got why didn't she think to snoop around said office for more information before following him to the overlook? -A "this action will have consequences" prompt comes up when you write on the wall of Chloe and Rachel's hideout in the first game but as far as I can tell it never comes up again. So what exactly does this decision trigger then? - What was the significance of that one part of the Nightmare where you turn into Victoria for a brief segment? Also fun fact about that: though it's pointless you can actually still rewind during that part, they even gave Victoria her own animations for doing so.
|
|
|
|
Max walks or runs depending on how far you "push" the invisible analogue stick. And rewinding works by pushing the rewind spiral icon that's always onscreen when you can rewind, I can't remember how you quick rewind but it's in there too.

Same dynamic can be seen with Rachel's plan to leave Arcadia Bay. Rachel's the one fantasizing and pushing to go through with it but it's Chloe who fixes up the truck, borrows money from Frank, and actually puts the works in while Rachel cozies up to Frank and Jefferson. 2. If you don't graffiti the hideout, later during the ending of episode 4, the only change will be "Rachel was here" being changed to "Rachel is here". If you do graffiti the hideout, in episode 4 Rachel's writing will be defaced and Jefferson will circle Max and Chloe's names and write "You are all going to die". 3. Because they wanted to pad the nightmare sequence even more than they already did. I'd hesitate to try and garner any more significant meaning from it than that.

Not quite true. Rachel starts selling drugs to kids at school for Frank to pay for the trip. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure BtS is supposed to give us the impression Chloe's not actually all that keen on leaving as she fronts that she is. They have everything they need to leave at the end of BtS, but they stick around for another 2 and a half years and borrow 5 grand to fix up an old pickup that already works? Chloe's dragging her feet and it's probably what causes Rachel to drift away from her into the arms of Frank and Jefferson. Rachel even asks a random trucker for a lift to LA. She's not just a fantasist.

Huh, I didn't realize you could visit the hideout again at the end of Episode 4, that's neat. And yeah, I agree that Chloe probably didn't have as much incentive to leave as Rachel did considering that even though Joyce let her down in a major way (more than once actually), Chloe still loves her mom and probably wouldn't want to just leave her like that. Also, despite her best efforts I don't think she was ever fully able to give up on Max, which is probably why she accepted her back so easily in the first game. Speaking of the original, in retrospect Max probably should have thought to text David about the Dark Room BEFORE tearing up her photo after coming back from the art gallery. They'd still have to deal with the storm of course but Chloe would probably still have been alive and they'd be in a much safer situation. To be fair, both Chloe and Max are kind of bad at the whole hero thing but Chloe seems to have a better track record overall. Granted, a lot of that was due to accident or dumb luck (if Frank hadn't shown up when he did Damon probably would have killed her back at the mill, if she was lucky that is) but it's still something. The only thing Max really did that didn't backfire in some fashion was saving Kate in Episode 2. Larryb fucked around with this message at 17:07 on Mar 29, 2018 |

Rachel was habitually drawn to new experiences, wanted out of Arcadia Bay, eventually concluded that Chloe wasn't gonna do it for her, and their relationship cooled off even though Chloe still kept the dream alive. I don't think Chloe was actually a part Rachel's plan to move to LA by the time of Season One, but inserted herself into it because she wanted to be with her and wanted to make herself play a more important role in her conversations with Max. That's the way I've always seen that relationship before BtS even existed. Why they stuck around for three years following the events of the prequel is left to the imagination and headcanon, but in LiS Chloe is always talking about how she and Rachel were low on money so James Amber had probably cut her off by that point.

voltcatfish posted:Oh rest assured that in my game, that backfired too Oh I know saving her isn't guaranteed but I was just saying if she does it's pretty much the only time the universe doesn't punish Max for it later (though she can still get suspended afterwards if you made certain choices leading up to it). Back onto BtS I do kind of wonder what happened to Sera if you convince her to reunite with Rachel. She can no longer legally gain custody so either she just stopped by the lighthouse at the end to say goodbye or if she continued to try and support her daughter in an unofficial capacity. I've said it before but Rachel's problem is that she has too much of her parents in her. Like her mom she's always looking for escape and is never really satisfied by anything or anyone and thanks to her dad lying is basically second nature to her. I don't think Chloe could really keep up with that and as a result Rachel probably lost interest in her after a while. Larryb fucked around with this message at 00:07 on Mar 30, 2018 |

I don't know, I feel like the idea that Rachel is just like her mum, always chasing the next experience or rush is imposed on her by James. Nothing she does really shows that's the case to any dangerous extent. Its her career as a young model and a potentially abusive relationship with Frank that gets her caught up with Jefferson. And it's wanting to escape a dysfunctional family that makes her want to go to LA, to again, pursue a career. She's not just bored of living the good life as the DA's daughter and looking for adventure. Chloe makes the same mistaken assumption the first episode about their outing to the park, but she's wrong, Rachel isn't looking for shallow rebellion, she's investigating something she thinks might really hurt her. James is just a shithead and is pathologically terrified of Rachel turning out like Sera.

That makes sense, there's still a little bit of her mom in her no question but considering the facts she's still a decent person for the most part and honestly could have turned out a lot worse. Chloe was probably the best thing to ever happen to her seeing as she was about the only one willing to be truly honest with her. But Rachel was already so damaged thanks to her dad that she couldn't handle that and as a result things turned out the way they did. It's kind of sad actually that despite her best efforts Chloe ultimately couldn't protect Rachel when it really mattered. Hell, she still went missing in the timeline where the two of them never met so unfortunately she might have been doomed from the start. James is still probably the one most responsible for what his daugter became though (which is probably why I hate him more than Jefferson in some aspects. Jefferson at the very least didn't seem to have any delusions that all the hosed up poo poo he was doing was right, he just didn't care.) but at least if you tell the truth at the end Chloe does manage to stop him from hurting her any more than he already did and with any luck he got killed in the storm later on anyway (maybe even with the help of a certain ghost deer). He probably did genuinely love Rachel in some sense but if he's willing to go so far just to protect her from some perceived threat (while ignoring most of the real ones) what's to stop him from doing it again? After all, his basic motivation seems to be that his life isn't as perfect as he imagined it being so therefore he wants to get rid of any possible defects. So what happens then when one of said "defects" later winds up being his own daughter? There wasn't much investigation into her disappearance after all and Chloe does mention that Rachel's parents were in denial about the whole thing. Even in the timeline where she honors Sera's wishes I can't really see Chloe managing to go 3 whole years without blowing up at James in some capacity. Come to think of it, most of the major antagonists in this series so far have all been adult men in some kind of position of power. The only female "villain" I can think of is Victoria but she's got her own set of extenuating circumstances, I wonder if this trend is going to continue into Season 2? Also on the subject of Sera, there's a couple other weird things about her in retrospect: - What exactly was the scene at the end of Episode 1 supposed to be about (the one where she's sitting near the raging wildfire smoking with a weird grin on her face)? - The report at the Amber house seems to indicate that she's part of Damon's gang but he barely seems to know her himself (though to be fair, based on the conversations you get when you accuse people of being the snitch he doesn't seem to know a lot of his employees that well) - Both Frank and later James mention Sera causing trouble for/hurting a lot of people but not only is it never really explained what it means but it doesn't seem to gel with what we actually see of her character. True, she was originally from California and just came to town recently therefore it wouldn't make sense that Frank would be her dealer so never mind that point then. That still doesn't explain how they knew each other, how and why (or even if depending on how accurate that report was) she got mixed up with Damon's group and how exactly she'd been allegedly causing trouble for people around town though.
|

When Sera started showing back up in town demanding to see Rachel, James Amber tried to get Damon to sell drugs to her. When that didn’t work he tried to get Damon to intimidate and then ultimately to dose her. Sera was catching on and likely went to Frank’s RV to confront him.

Well this is most unexpected: Life is Strange is getting its own comic book miniseries! Four parts, coming out in 2018. Unclear as to whether this will be a new story or a retelling of the original series/prequel.

Since it's an adaptation and they talk about Arcadia Bay and "beloved characters" yeah, sounds like a retelling. Still, pretty cool. I guess the tv series/movie adaptation is dead in the water then since there hasn't been much talk about that from what I've heard.

Wonder if this means that the web series they talked about a while back is dead now. Though even if it isn't its going to take a lot of work to make it not just look like Twin Peaks with the numbers filed off. There's also the inherent problem of adapting a choice based game into a live action series/movie as no matter what direction you wind up going in you're probably going to wind up pissing a few people off. Come to think of it, has anything like this ever been done before? Larryb fucked around with this message at 14:01 on Mar 30, 2018 |

It could also be interesting to do a story around the William Lives timeline and see more of what Max and the other characters were like there (though based on the texts that universe's Max didn't seem like that great a person overall, but there could be some extenuating circumstances). There's honestly a lot of possibilities you could explore, maybe even upgrade it to a full fledged series if the initial four issues do well. That might actually be a nice compromise come to think of it, you could have the games go in a different direction while still exploring the old crew further in comic form. With a renewed sense of hope Chloe goes back to school and eventually becomes a Nobel Prize winning scientist, respected worldwide for her accomplishments. Meanwhile Max becomes a great photographer and eventually reunites and reconciles with her best friend, Jefferson is discovered and arrested before he even sets foot at Blackwell, a huge scandal hits the Prescott family eventually causing Wells to resign in disgrace and be replaced with a competent principal, Nathan is finally able to get the mental help he desperately needs, Kate's life never goes to hell and everyone is generally safe and happy. It's probably a complete anathema to the message of the series but we can dream. In all seriousness I'm actually kind of optimistic for this comic series, there's a lot of stories they could tell and like I said if it does well enough I could easily see it continuing past the initially planned 4 issues. It could be the next Archie, but with time travel. Just kidding, there's a surprising amount of time travel in Archie comics (Jughead is a part-time time cop, apparently).

The more I think about it, this might be better for the series than cranking out more side games or doing a live action series/movie would (especially if it winds up going longer than what they have planned). This way, the main games could continue switching over to a new cast and setting every season while still having a chance to tell more stories about the old characters via the comics. As long as said comics are decent it basically sounds like a win-win situation for the fanbase.
