New LiS 2 image that's been floating around recently, I assume this is going to be the cover photo for the PSN/Steam page:

Also if anybody played it, is the Android version of LiS basically identical to the IOS one released a while back or has anything been changed/added?

Kind of don't like the bait and switch stuff from Captain Spirit. I know they didn't say Chris would be the protag but my mind was racing for some of the stuff they set up.

Also more interesting is backpacking in the woods couldn't possibly stay a 5 part series, I don't think Episode 1 and Episode 2 will look much of the same.

A little different from the direction I thought LiS 2 would take, but a supernatural road trip between two brothers is all right with me. Curious that in the blog post they don't explicitly mention it's only the older brother who has powers, despite being framed that way in the trailer.

Well they did make sure to keep the camera focused squarely on Daniel at the end of Captain Spirit while Sean was barely shown at all so there's probably something going on with him as well (in fact there's evidence that we might be playing as both brothers during the course of the game). It should also be noted that during the aforementioned scene Chris seems surprised at what happened, the boys next door do not (which is why I never really bought into the fact that Chris was the one with the powers, he'll probably still be important somehow though).

Also it won't just be hiking in the woods as the datamine from a while back shows we'll be visiting various locations such as Seattle and Arcadia Bay. It'll be nice to have a slightly larger world to explore this time at least Still curious how the new power is going to work from a gameplay standpoint though.

Maybe it's too much to ask for, but I would love to see the boys run into Chloe and Max as they head south. If it takes place after LiS 1, Chloe and Max could also be enroute south after leaving Arcadia Bay.

This is directly connected to Captain Spirit so it takes place 3 years after LiS 1. Apparently, either Max and Chloe or Max and Warren will make a cameo at some point depending on which ending you chose from the last game. The cameo seems to be voice only but it's still possible we might see some familiar faces later on (the datamine mentions Chloe and Rachel as well).

This game will apparently not only carry over your choices from Captain Spirit but also the original game as well (either by importing save data or answering a questionnaire at the start). Unless a character or something shows up I doubt there's going to be much connection to BtS though (it's technically canon in that DontNod approved all the story changes Deck Nine made but in the current timeline it also would have happened about 6 years ago and probably wouldn't be that relevant to the story).

Also the guy voicing Sean sounds really familiar to me but I can't quite place it at the moment.

There wasn't any bait and switch. They said Chris was just one character in LIS 2, we knew he wasn't going to be the main character. We saw the actual 2 main characters in the back yard, and one of them was clearly the one who used his power to stop Chris from being hurt when he fell out of the tree.

At some point along the way, while playing Sean, we're going to encounter Chris.

Pretty bummed about the direction this is taking. I found LiS so refreshing because it was a rare game that featured quotidian, "boring" elements. It was really fun to walk through a normal suburban home or explore individual dorm rooms at Blackwell. Kept the story grounded and gave it a real sense of place. That's what made it "Life is Strange" to me, but I guess Dontnod saw magic powers as the defining element.

Superheroic teens on the run....just feels like a story I've read a hundred times before in Young-Adult novels.

Larryb

It's a different direction no question and I'm not 100% on board with everything I've seen/read about the game so far, but I'm willing to at least give it a shot. I hope this doesn't stray too far from its roots but as long as they can manage to make the new cast even half as good as the previous one and the quality of the writing remains consistent it shouldn't be too terrible (to be fair, they do have some pretty big shoes to fill).

I'm hoping the upcoming comic miniseries will end up good as well. If it's successful I wouldn't mind it being extended into a full monthly publication as there's a lot of stories you could tell in this universe that might not work that well in game form.

Kind of in the same boat, teen/school melodrama is what made Life Is Stange, and the other thing that made it was how it developed and created a sense of place in arcadia bay. If both of those things are taken away Im not sure this game can possible succeed.

I'm going to have to agree with this. Life is Strange is about awkward lesbians doing regular teenager stuff with a bit of supernatural mystery thrown in.

That trailer looks honestly kind of like they don't understand why people (or at least I) love LiS so much, which sucks.

I mean, hopefully they prove me wrong and it ends up being a compelling story with good characters, but that trailer kind of worries me.

To be fair, we've known since the very beginning that this game would feature a new cast and setting. Though I agree that if the characters are constantly moving from place to place it might make it difficult to create a decent supporting cast out of this. That said , we still haven't seen a whole lot of this game yet and I wasn't impressed with BtS when it was first announced either so I'm going to reserve final judgement for when I actually play it.

Though on the other hand, since there's no rewind power it seems like your choices will actually matter a bit more this time around (for example, the blog post seems to indicate that how you act around Daniel will drastically change the direction his character goes in). That could be interesting at least.

I think it's a little premature to say LiS 2 has betrayed the roots of the series or w/e when 1) it's only the second game and 2) we've known season two would be taking on a totally different cast from the beginning. It's not like a road trip narrative somehow cannot convey a sense of time and place within the structure of its story.

Counting BtS and Captain Spirit it's technically the fourth game but fair point. As long as it's handled well I actually don't mind the road trip aspect, it just means there's a much larger world for us to explore as opposed to being shackled to one specific location like in the previous games.

Also to be fair, based on the pattern so far most LiS games don't usually start getting really good until the second episode or so and then sort of go downhill somewhat by the end (hopefully this will be the game to buck that particular trend though).

As mentioned before, LiS 2 is probably going to make or break the future of this franchise (though there is still the comic, maybe the live action webseries if they ever get it off the ground and possibly whatever project Deck Nine's working on that you brought up earlier). Hopefully they'll be able to pull this off.

Edit: According to this apparently the newspaper clipping about the shooting in Seattle was about a guy named Estaban Diaz (presumably Sean and Daniel's father) who was murdered and that a teenager was found unconscious at the scene. There's also a shot of Daniel punching out some kid.

its not really that its not the same setting i.e. arcadia bay/blackwell academy. Its that since we are traveling on the road through what we can assume will be a lot of different places that they all won't get the chance to ruminate and develop the same way that they did in the first game

I imagine there's going to be a few reoccurring characters at least that follow the boys on their journey (for example Chris is probably going to be important somehow or else we wouldn't have gotten a whole game about him and his family situation). It's also not clear how long we'll be staying in a single location and/or if we'll be backtracking at some point (and there's probably going to be a ton of different locations since we need to fill out 5 episodes of this after all).

But yeah, I agree that the new characters might not wind up quite as endearing as the originals if we barely have any time to get to know them before we run off to somewhere else. Hopefully they'll be able to pull it off though.

Any reports on the gameplay itself yet? I'd heard somewhere that a playable build was available at this years Gamescom.

Yeah, I pretty much expected that reaction from some people (but like I said, this is still in the same universe so it could be possible that we see a familiar face or two pop up at some point).

Agreed, and while it might not be as gay as previous titles I don't mind having a male protagonist (though we are still playing as a teenager) either as it's at least a change of pace. Plus, as I said before we need more male characters in this series who aren't assholes or at least vaguely creepy.

As far as semi-major characters go I think the only ones we've had so far that don't fall into either of those categories are William, Frank (to an extent, he did come off pretty aggressive at first as well as the fact that he sold date rape drugs to teenagers and also had a romantic relationship with one), the North family, and to a lesser extent Warren (he's a little weird about his crush on Max but he also knows when to back down and you get the sense that the two of them are genuinely friends. Plus, technically he's somewhat responsible for saving everyone/Chloe at the end).

Maybe my problem is that I feel like I've already played this game with Lee and Clementine in Walking Dead S1/S2? I've already dragged a child companion through the woods while on the run in a harsh and unforgiving world. It just feels super easy to predict the plot beats of nearly every scene in Episode One.

Like, 100% guarantee there's going to be a scene where the older brother gives the younger brother some fantastical make-work tasks in the woods to distract him from how precarious their situation is. There's going to be a scene where you have to gather firewood and cook some beans or w/e. There's going to be a scene where you have to lie to your younger brother so he doesn't know the awful truth. There's going to be a scene where you have to hide from the cops in the woods. There will be a moment where you trust some friendly strangers, and then they turn you into the cops. The older teen will gaze at the newspaper photo and struggle with his guilt.

I'm totally fine with new characters and a new setting, but I just can't figure out how you introduce a new angle into the "superpowered teenage runaway" story. It's a really cliched plot. Guess I'll just have to hope they pull it off and all my predictions are totally wrong.

Yeah, if you don't care about spoilers I'm pretty sure almost everything about the first episode has been unearthed at this point except for the title. Speaking of which, seeing as all of LiS' episode titles were loosely based on time or some kind of timed process and the ones for BtS were all based off lines from The Tempest (including Farewell I believe), I'm curious what the naming scheme for LiS 2 is going to be. My guess is something to do with travel or family (or maybe we just won't have episode titles this time around).

I watched a chunk of the gameplay video and man that area does not look like Seattle to me, as someone who lives there. Too flat, and the streets look too wide. Also way too many trees in the background, it looked like they were on the edge of a forest. I guess it could've been one of the bigger parks. Definitely a Seattle cop though.

LiS 2 gameplay video:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=s0B6fPNbXLI

Well the facial animation has improved a bit at least (still not quite BtS quality though). Since the boys apparently live in Seattle at the start I'm going to assume that either Captain Spirit takes place some time during LiS 2 as opposed to before or there's a slight time jump between games.

Sean himself seems more like a Chloe than a Max, which is a good thing in my opinion. Also as far as kid characters go I kind of like what I see of Daniel so far (both brothers are massive dorks though, so I'm glad one tradition is still intact at least). Like Max, Sean's power seems to awaken when someone close to him gets shot (in this case his dad).

Ok, I'm slightly more on board with this game now (still curious how or if the new power is going to work from a gameplay standpoint though).
