Stand up is disposable, ages poorly and is quickly forgotten. Low art.

But that's not really true. To test this out, I listen to a Bob Newhart record from 1960, and it was still really funny. Rodney Dangerfield was also pretty good.

I tried Bill Hicks, and it was alright I guess. Some of the stuff didn't land, some of it was kind of edge lord stuff, and some of his jokes were pretty easy to see the punchlines from miles away.

Maybe the stuff that aged poorly wasn't really that good to begin with.

Meanwhile, the Stones have dropped Brown Sugar from their setlist, at least for now. Probably for the best, as it's a song that Mick Jagger has admitted in the past that he'd never write in this day and age.

Having heard Brown Sugar about a billion times in my life but only being able to recall the chorus, like a lot of people I’d imagine, I just looked up its lyrics.

Turns out Cary Joji Fukunaga is an rear end in a top hat who tried to pressure a woman with a "no nudity" clause in her contract into going topless on True Dectective and then fired her when she refused.

I'd never heard or heard of this song before, I looked up the lyrics and holy poo poo that song is a musical hate crime I felt gross just reading it.

Sadly, this kind of poo poo isn't unheard of; I mentioned earlier in this thread that Ronny Yu tried to pull this poo poo with Katherine Isabelle on the set of "Freddy vs Jason".

Frankly, nowadays whenever I see a female nude scene in a film directed by a male, I just assume he's a pervert.

The laws vs reality around nude clauses and nude scenes/photos are so heavily weighted against the women (or possibly men, but likely women) is insane. I think I read it in this thread way back but there's some semi-famous actress who signed an ironclad contract prohibiting the publishing of some nude photos she was taking, something like that at least, and the photog went ahead and published a book of the nude photos anyways.

She of course got a lawyer, and was ready to go nuclear, but even with the contract explicitly forbidding it, the lawyer told her the best option was to make him settle and give her cut of the sales (not even all, just some) because the photos were already out and a big legal case would just increase her exposure.

Yeah, in recent years stars have been pushing for an independent person on set who's job is to make sure that actors don't feel pressured into doing something that they don't want to do for nude/sex scenes.

With the way a lot of directors act, it'd have to be someone the size of Andre the Giant, because you know those directors will try to become physically intimidating.

Who was that fucker who was verbally abusing Lily Tomlin on set? That set could've used someone to physically toss him off the shoot.

Remember when Joss Whedon tried to threaten Gal Godot into doing the titty pratfall scene?

There's a lot of talk about how sexless and sterile a lot of modern blockbusters, particularly MCU movies are, and that's fair, but I also think it stands out more because gratuitous sexuality was so omnipresent and frankly jarring in previous decades. I think internet porn basically killed that because suddenly tits aren't a selling point worth getting the rating bump.

I can remember "Brown Sugar" being used in a soda ad in the nineties(?) which is a whole new level of :wtc: in retrospect. (But is typical of ads where they use a song whether the full lyrics actually work with what's being sold or not :v:)

My favorite Pepsi ad doesn't exist; it's a bit from The Sklar Bros stand-up. Their pitch was it'd be a waitress, looking directly at the camera, and she'd say "No we don't, but we have Pepsi."

A lot of beers and especially Budweiser are heavily marketed to cishet men so it goes without saying that the ads are going to be awful. I remember there being all kinds of other ads they did which were just toxic masculinity occasionally sprinkled with gay panic. Plenty of other were just basically "HEY! TITS!".
