When I was last job searching I had a lot of success using hired.com. At the time my only experience was a year in a startup and some open source work. I got requests for about 20 interviews, went on ~12, got 6 concrete offers (and a few others I was stringing along). You put a profile up there and then the companies come to you. It's tech only, because only this industry is that desperate for staff.

I'm trying to persuade my boss to start using Hired to hire because our recruiters suck and keep sending us the exact same profiles (guys with 3 years experience at megacorp and a buzzwordy cv who fail the technical test). I haven't been sent a woman's cv by them in months even though they get a bonus if we hire her.

I got one lovely government contracting company from them with my looking location set to Denver and nothing else for months.

Notorious b.s.d. posted:“penury” was a reference to the risk of unemployment, not the standard of living It's not actually that hard to find a job in places like Minneapolis or wherever if you're an experienced programmer? Like, if someone gets laid off from a tech job they're not going to be living out of a cardboard box. They just find another tech job.

They just find another tech job. the job markets are extremely thin. you might not find another tech job, or at least, not another job that fits your specialisation. by the time you're highly experienced, there might only be a handful of jobs in a small market that you would fit into easily, or command the pay you were looking for i have known guys who did long stints unemployed, because they would rather spend 18 months out of a job than leave whatever godforsaken burg they grew up in that's a thing people do. it's ok. i understand that sometimes family connections or your church or whatever matter more than economic concerns. edit: to be real clear, i get testy just because it means it's impossible to recruit these motherfuckers.
